"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome President and former First Lady and Former Senator Hillary Clinton, and Senator and First Husband and former President Bill Clinton!"

Wouldn't this create some kind of endless loop that would collapse the universe into a black hole or something?

For the record, Elliot Spitzer is a farking steamroller.

2007-02-19 1:52:48 AM
Bill would be a fine NY senator.

However, I think he's making substantially more $$$ doing what he's doing now-- adviser, media appearances, etc.

2007-02-19 1:54:03 AM
ain't gonna happen.

And Stevie Ray Vaughn played the best Texas blues evar.

Not sure what either fact has to do with this thread, but still.

Heh:

1. Bush peré, GWB, Jeb Bush:

OMFG! It's a dynasty! Everybody panic!

2. JFK, RFK, Teddy, Bill, Hillary:

Sez you. I know plenty of die-hard libs besides myself who don't want to see the POTUS line up to be Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton-Bush adnausem.

So far the only candidates I like at all are Obama and Guiliani.

I'm guessing that's because you don't know enough about either of them... yet.

Who would be the next Bush? One of the twins? Laura?

/no way could it be Jeb--too much baggage
//ooh--what about Bush 41 again?

2007-02-19 2:27:42 AM
MyNameIsNotMervGriffin: 2. JFK, RFK, Teddy, Bill, Hillary

This doesn't make much sense since RFK and Teddy weren't president and Bill doesn't have anything to do with the Kennedys other than wanting to (and failing) to emulate JFK. If Hillary would become president (which won't happen BTW), that would be the quasi-equal of 41 and 43, not the continuation of a greater line of succession somehow glommed onto JFK 45 years ago.

2007-02-19 2:29:49 AM
Abagadro: This doesn't make much sense

Let me clarify, then:

When discussing Bush 41, Bush 43 and Bush the Florida Guv, Dems tend to fret about Dynasties, Which Are Not Good For Democracy.

When discussing, JFK RFK, Bill and Hillary, Dems tend to thank God for them or fall oddly silent.

2007-02-19 2:31:36 AM
Abagadro: RFK and Teddy weren't president

Oh, almost forgot:

RFK won the Democratic nomination just before he was assassinated and Teddy was a strong contender for the nomination before Chappaquiddick, and has since been one of the most influential Senators in history.

You don't have to be POTUS to have some clout, y'know.

2007-02-19 2:34:27 AM
Lovely conversation but it's Oh Dark Thirty here and I gotta hit the sack.

TTFN!

And if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump its ass when it hops.

If you are going to make statements about presidential dynasties, it would seem incumbent to include people who were actually president.

I actually don't here many people at all talk about dynasties that don't decry both stripes.

All Dems want this, subby?

TFA actually says that some mull the idea, but I guess you know that's just code for "ALL Dems."

FWIW, he would be a great Senator.

If Hillary wins, I predict a mass migration to Australia..

Springtime for Hillary and Chelsea, winter for everyone else.

Sad, but probably true.

/I feel the same way, but I don't think Obama is electable as Pres yet. I'd love an Edwards/Obama ticket though

How 'bout just Chelsea hooking up with the Bush twins?

2007-02-19 8:18:35 AM
MyNameIsNotMervGriffin

There's a substantial difference between:

1). Actual father/son dynasties (Bush Sr and Jr)
2). Presidential dynasties and political families

You're not wrong that the Dems are silent on political families like the Clintons and Kennedys, but actual presidential dynasties those are not.

2007-02-19 8:22:38 AM
MyNameIsNotMervGriffin "Oh, almost forgot:

RFK won the Democratic nomination just before he was assassinated"

No he did not. He won the California primary, he was still well short of being the candidate.

2007-02-19 8:27:12 AM
She'll never win anyway.

2007-02-19 8:27:16 AM
We have a tv programme in the UK called Top Gear. The three hosts were recently set the challenge of driving old bangers through Alabama with slogans written on the side. One had something about man-on-man lurve being swell, another car proclaimed that country music and NASCAR sucked, and the third said "Hillary Clinton for President". All three vehicles were stoned at a petrol station and chased several miles up the motorway.

I think the election of Hillary may be a non-issue is some parts of the US ...

2007-02-19 8:27:47 AM
Would this mean that Man-Bear-Pig would be the vice-Senator?

2007-02-19 8:28:24 AM
Um, I think this would put him (however distantly) in the line of succession to the President, which is a no-no.

2007-02-19 8:29:05 AM
If Hillary wins, we will end up having spent the last 28 years under the rule of two families. We have done exactly what the founding fathers fought against.....royalty.

2007-02-19 8:31:56 AM
SomeFarker: Nothing would necessarily "go wrong," but Bill would not take the job, I think.

Well, something could go wrong if they have congressional page girls over the age of consent, I guess.

5000_gallons_of_toothpaste: It will be Hilary's turn to spooge on an intern.

She's a squirter or are we talking transformer action?

I thought republicans had the monopoly on ass reaming transformer action

2007-02-19 8:33:36 AM
maitri: Um, I think this would put him (however distantly) in the line of succession to the President, which is a no-no.

One other president became a senator after he left office. Also, senators don't have to be natural born citizens, which is another qualification, so all that would happen is they would skip over Bill to the next qualified candidate.

I still don't think Hillary should become president. No political dynasties, ever!

2007-02-19 8:33:49 AM
It would not be First Husband it would be First Gentlemen

2007-02-19 8:36:40 AM
nick4753: It would not be First Husband it would be First Gentlemen

Although you would still use his highest office when addressing him, so you would still say "President Bill Clinton" or "Former President Bill Clinton" instead of "First Gentlemen"

The only time that you would hear First Gentlemen is in relation to the office of the First Lady/First Gentlemen.

It will be confusing having two President Clinton but we already have two President Bushs and two President Adams (well, one is Quincy Adams, but you get the point)

Look, I've farked a lot of fat chicks in my time, sure. But, as far back as I can remember, I've never fornicated anybody.
