It's Howard Dean all over again.

...wonders when he'll give an insane scream.

2007-01-18 11:05:39 AM
No, Dean had eleven years of a record governing. I like Barack Obama but Congressmen (of any party) as Presidential candidates give me the hives.

It's Howard Dean all over again.

Dean also arrived late on the scene, he was virtually unknown until his fund raising started out performing most of the rest of the field in the Q4 of 2003.

By hitting early Obama may have the opportunity to shake out and deal with any questions well before the primaries and general election start.

2007-01-18 11:19:15 AM
Howard Dean was always a confrontational screamer. Barak Obama has been low key and keeping focus consistently on the positive. There really does not seem to be much of a comparison between the two except that both have spent at least a little time making conservative hatemongers twitch and scream and spit. You may not return to your war.

2007-01-18 11:21:33 AM
I'd like to stay in the "jeans creaming" phase for just a bit longer, okay? We've got plenty of time for the "tear him to shreds" phase, I promise.

2007-01-18 11:27:51 AM
m0llusk: Barak Obama has been low key and keeping focus consistently on the positive.

Other than sniveling about Maureen Dowd making fun of his ears, of course. He'll need thicker skin than that to survive a primary against Hillary. She'll throw every bit of mud at him she can find and then invent more.

2007-01-18 11:30:12 AM
I don't get why all the GOPers are desperate to hate Obama. Would they rather that Hillary or Edwards be the main candidate for the Democrats? The anti-GOP backlash caused by the bungling of the Iraq war and the do-nothing corrupt GOP congress will likely still be in effect in 2008 (barring any miracles from happening). Shouldn't Republicans be pulling for the Democratic candidate they hate least?

2007-01-18 11:30:48 AM
Aren't we lucky we have the Liberal Bashing Industry to fabric. . uh, find out the truth about our candidates!

.

"Media" is plural.

But good headline.

Code Archaeologist,

You do realize that you just wasted your breath trying to give a logical response to something posted by TCS, don't you?

I've had more productive conversations with video game controllers while high than I've ever seen anyone have with TCS.

You do realize that you just wasted your breath trying to give a logical response to something posted by TCS, don't you?

...or his wife.

50/50 chance that's who you're responding to.

2007-01-18 11:42:32 AM
And yet you took the time to add such insight while contributing nothing to the topic?

Moving on.

2007-01-18 11:44:32 AM
He's a smoker, and he's black.

There, I ended his chances and we can move on now.

2007-01-18 11:45:38 AM
they'll get down to some hard-hitting investigative reporting

This wouldn't be a call to dig up dirt, would it?

2007-01-18 11:46:35 AM
Unright: I don't get why all the GOPers are desperate to hate Obama.

*raises hand*

I'm a GOPer and I can't help but notice this interesting lost-in-translation phenomenon that keeps happening:

Someone who loves Obama: "I just love Obama!"

Someone else: "I don't know much about him yet. He certainly bears watching."

Someone who loves Obama: "WHY DO YOU HATE OBAMA?!?!?!???"

2007-01-18 11:47:55 AM
jsnbase: This wouldn't be a call to dig up dirt, would it?

Damn straight. Some guy wants to run for prez he'd better be ready for it, too. I want to know EVERYTHING there is to know about Obama; I'm not inclined to fall in love with him simply because he's shiny and new.

2007-01-18 11:50:44 AM
filth: "Media" is plural.

But good headline.

Sorry, but usage always trumps etymology:

me·di·a

-noun
1.a pl. of medium.
2.(usually used with a plural verb) the means of communication, as radio and television, newspapers, and magazines, that reach or influence people widely: The media are covering the speech tonight.
-adjective
3.pertaining to or concerned with such means: a job in media research.

-Usage note: Media, like data, is the plural form of a word borrowed directly from Latin. The singular, medium, early developed the meaning "an intervening agency, means, or instrument" and was first applied to newspapers two centuries ago. In the 1920s media began to appear as a singular collective noun, sometimes with the plural medias. This singular use is now common in the fields of mass communication and advertising, but it is not frequently found outside them: The media is (or are) not antibusiness.

2007-01-18 11:55:35 AM
Yeah? Well the word "Media" doesn't smoke and isn't black. It's chances of winning election are currently better than Obama's.

2007-01-18 11:57:42 AM
mr_shhh: He's a smoker, and he's black.

does he smoke newports?

\\i kid i kid

2007-01-18 12:01:58 PM
I heard that the only person who can beat up Barack Obama is Chuck Norris.

2007-01-18 12:02:18 PM
mr_shhh: He's a smoker, and he's black.

Obama smokes? I guess the smear machine is on the blink. I have never heard that.

2007-01-18 12:04:04 PM
foster404: does he smoke newports?

I'd guess American Spirits.

2007-01-18 12:05:13 PM
foster404: does he smoke newports?

Kool

filth: "Media" is plural.

in this headline it's a contraction

but good try

2007-01-18 12:16:06 PM
You people have to look at the FACTS about Obama.

Fact: Since Obama entered politics hundreds of thousands of Americans have died mysteriously.

Fact: During Obama's time in the Senate the deficit has grown to the largest in history.

Fact: In the mid 80's Obama was stopped by the authorities and during a routine search of his vehicle a container of highly flammable and potentially explosive liquid was discovered hidden below the trunk.

Fact: The name Obama is 99.999999% closer to the name Osama than almost any other American name.

You cannot argue with facts.

2007-01-18 12:17:25 PM
MyNameIsNotMervGriffin: Damn straight. Some guy wants to run for prez he'd better be ready for it, too. I want to know EVERYTHING there is to know about Obama; I'm not inclined to fall in love with him simply because he's shiny and new.

While I can appreciate the sentiment, you've never known everything there is to know about a candidate. And, of course, you have options beyond 'LOVE HIMMMMM' and 'let's find the stinkiest piece of poo he ever created and fling it across the nation.'

2007-01-18 12:17:31 PM
TossMySalad: You cannot argue with facts.

Good points. Also, we don't really know where Obama was on 9/11.

We do?

Then we can't be sure it was really him.

2007-01-18 12:19:06 PM
Bladel: Then we can't be sure it was really him.

nah, it was Saddam. we all know that.

2007-01-18 12:31:33 PM
The fun part about shiat-slinging now is that Hillary's team will be there, with hands full of poo, right next to the kloset klansmen and Dittoheads.

2007-01-18 12:38:14 PM
Sounds like someone is jealous of the attention he's getting. At least it's not farking K-Fed in the news.

2007-01-18 12:38:22 PM
jsnbase: you've never known everything there is to know about a candidate

No reason not to still found out everything you can rather than be entranced by his dazzling smile.

you have options beyond 'LOVE HIMMMMM' and 'let's find the stinkiest piece of poo he ever created and fling it across the nation.'

True enough. Like I said a minute ago, though, that dichotomy seems to be more of a problem with his fans. I can't count the times I've said something along the lines of "Obama's still an unknown--almost no record. I don't know what I think of him yet," and have gotten the response "Why are you right-wingers in such a hurry to hate his guts?"

2007-01-18 12:42:46 PM
MyNameIsNotMervGriffin: get off the cross. Do you think people might be overly sensitive since the right wing smear machine has been so swift an successful in the past.

Personally, I am interested in Obama but far from ready to pick him or anyone else. But other people being fans of his doesn't turn me off either.

2007-01-18 12:48:52 PM
timmy_the_tooth: nah, it was Saddam. we all know that.

Pshaw. That's what Obama wants you to believe.

2007-01-18 1:01:08 PM
Unright

I don't get why all the GOPers are desperate to hate Obama.

Because they're...uhh...completely unthreatened by him.

2007-01-18 1:42:51 PM
I love watching all these people trip over their dicks to get in line to suck this guy off.

Well, if we hadn't just experienced seven years of one of the greatest shiatsacks of all time as President, maybe the bar wouldn't be so low.

Obama sounds intelligent and coherent! ZOMG!11!!! I love him!!!
Obama can pronounce nuclear! I WANT HIS BABY!!11!!!
Obama doesn't believe God wants him to touch off Armageddon! MARRY MEEEEEE!!!!!!111!!!!eleventy!1!!!

2007-01-18 2:31:26 PM
A negro? In MY White House?

2007-01-18 2:31:26 PM
I'm curious to know if all this "media-frenzy" stuff about Obama is coming from the same people that have insisted Hillary is running for President- the republicans.

2007-01-18 2:32:22 PM
Man, they must be really scared of this guy with the amount of whining and teeth gnashing going on this early.

HE'S DARKSIDED....LITERALLY!

2007-01-18 2:41:53 PM
Wait until they find out he's black. And smokes. And has done coke.

That will be spun into 'n*gga crackhead'

/you know it will

I was listening to a piece on NPR about this gent. The main thrust of it was that the reason a lot of people seem to think highly of him is that he, well, represents a spirit of hope and optimism. He has managed to give off the idea that when the time comes he won't be indulging in the mudslinging that has become such a huge part of American Politics. He has come across as someone who _isn't_ as divisive as most of the other folks running.

As far as the lack of experience is concerned, frankly from my perspective that's a bit of a plus. He hasn't had enough time to sell his soul completely.

*shrug* Until the season really gets started we won't know if he manages to continue to pull it off.

2007-01-18 2:46:27 PM
Verbing Your Noun: MyNameIsNotMervGriffin: get off the cross. Do you think people might be overly sensitive since the right wing smear machine has been so swift an successful in the past.

It has?

You mean like when Al Gore started running TV spots about the guy who committed murder on Dukakis' furlough program, but everyone still thinks Bush 41 did it?

Or all the sneering Howard Dean did at John Kerry's military preening before anyone ever heard of the Swiftboaters?

Grow up. Smearing and mudslinging is hardly a right-wing bailiwick; both sides do it all day, every day, against their own party members just as much as the others'.

All I'm saying is that if I don't love Obama, it doesn't mean I hate/fear him. All I know about him is that everyone thinks he's cute, he's really, really new to national politics and he wrote a book with a lot of platitudes but few meaty positions.

Like I said, he bears watching. Don't love him; don't hate him. Haven't decided yet. If you think that makes me a mudslinger shaking in my boots at the new kid in town, make yerself happy.

/like I care all that much about what someone in a semi-anonymous forum thinks about me

2007-01-18 2:46:51 PM
This is going to be the funnest election in recent memory!! Little Hillary is going to make a fool of herself as usual and Obama has so little experience as to make him un-electable.
They will spend billions of $$ and we will end up with another dork as prez. (Insert favorite deity) help us!!!

2007-01-18 2:48:23 PM
MyNameIsNotMervGriffin: Sorry, but usage always trumps etymology:

Translation: "I'm proud of being wrong."

You don't quite read at grade level, do you?

Little Hillary is going to make a fool of herself as usual and Obama has so little experience as to make him un-electable.

He'll have as more experience in national politics than W had. Just sayin'.

2007-01-18 2:54:25 PM
filth: You don't quite read at grade level, do you?

I suspect you are about to feel a little embarrassed.

"We all know the media's in a fawning"
becomes
"We all know the media is in a fawning"
Which means that "media's" is a contraction of "Media is".
