Ah, righties. Always so confident, whether they have reason to be or not.

It was fun watching the Freeper boards on election night in November. During the day, before results started coming in, it was chock-full of comments saying there was nothing to worry about, they weren't going to lose any seats, if anything they were going to pick up MORE, etc. All of them were saying this, across the board. And they were serious.

Watching them as the results came in reminded me of a passage from Hitchhiker's Guide: "[Arthur's] face froze for a second or two and then began to do that terribly slow crashing trick that Arctic ice floes do so spectacularly in the spring."

Uh--didn't you RTA? It says despite all the confidence about Hillary being a frontrunner in '08, she's slipping fast in the polls and caucuses.

What does this have to do with "righties"?

Uhh, did you read the headline it was submitted under? It said all left-wingers were going to lose in 08.

Seems to me that for the past several elections, the winner is seldom the front runner 2 years before the election. Quite often it has been complete unknowns who take the lead at the end.

Loooooooooooooooooooooooooong way to go, people. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

/despises Hilary.
//perhaps despises Bush more.

I dont think anybody that voted for Bush really has any right to say anything other than "where is my recruiter" and go over and get involved in the war they helped cause.

Can anyone here honestly say, "Yep, Hillary Clinton. That's the best we can do and I'll be glad to vote for her."? Anyone at all?

No "Bu.. bu.. but Kerry!" responses here. I given't a shiat about the past, the future, or the 8th dimension. I just want to know if anyone can close their eyes, concentrate, and say with a straight face that Hillary Clinton is the best Democrats can do.

If he waits until 2016, he'd have a better Senate career to back him up.

Long careers in Congress are NOT beneficial to Presidential campaigns, exactly the opposite.

Personally, I view it thusly: the Democratic party has a decision to make, whether to move backwards to the Democratic party of 10 years ago (Hillary), or to move forward and embrace a new Democratic party (Obama).

All discussions about "electability" aside, can a single one of you stand here and tell me that if you had the choice, you'd rather have Hillary in office than Obama? If so, why?

Implied it, I would say, but yeah, that was what I was responding to.

Dufus [TotalFark] -- Seems to me that for the past several elections, the winner is seldom the front runner 2 years before the election.

I am entirely in agreement. I have been repeatedly astonished by the amount of energy people (on both sides) for years already have put into arguing why Hilary will or won't be president in 08. There's a lot of water to cross between here and the ballot.
