(AP)   EU whines that the U.S. shouldn't have used airstrikes to try to get al Qaida members. Instead, there should have been an "international" ground force -- meaning "somebody else's troops," of course   (iht.com) divider line

You know what's not going to stop terrorist training camps? Making it even harder for a real government to form in Somalia by allowing Ethiopia to try and make their neighbor a puppet state.

"European Commission says U.S. airstrikes not helpful in bringing long-term peace to Somalia"

Bullshiat. As opposed to international ground forces, US airstrikes have brought long-term peace to lots of places. Like... erm... er...

OK, someone else pick up this baton and start running with it...

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess the United States has no plans of putting soldiers back in Somalia.

I'm going to go out on another limb and guess the United States doesn't care what the Eurotards think.

I am going to build a tree for more limbs to be gone out on

Question: why are we, the US and the UN, forcing these countries to maintain current borders? I've often wondered why we are preventing the fences from moving on countries that are fighting with each other.

2007-01-09 7:09:02 PM
It was a bullsh*T maneuver.

I mean, did we even get permission from the Somali government?

Or are they our b*tch still from the conflict in the '90s?

The attacks, which killed large numbers of people, came after the terror suspects were spotted hiding on a remote island on the southern tip of Somalia, close to the Kenyan border.

Yeah. Right.

Team AMERICA FARK YEAH!

How's that peacekeeping force for Darfur going?

There hasn't really been a functioning Somali government of which to ask permission for, what, some fifteen years? The world has had plenty of time to demonstrate how much or how little it cares about the situation down there, such as withdrawing assistance instead of committing enough power to contest the local warlords.

PC LOAD LETTER --
Presumably, still waiting for permission from Khartoum to walk in and protect civilians against Janjaweed attacks backed by Chinese-made helicopter gunships operated by Khartoum... wait, what?

I'm confused. Are the libs or the cons supposed to "suck it"?

Somalia.

Local Cynic

What do you have against the idea of an Ethiopian puppet state? At least it won't be another farking Islamic Republic.

"did we even get permission from the Somali government?"

If you'd read up on the situation in Somalia you'd know what a ridiculous idea that is.

Apparently an AC-130 was used... can't get much more percise than that.

"Like the School of the Americas?"

No, like a group of al qaeda terrorists located in country that's the poster child for anarchy.

Now if you can show that School of America is preventing the United States from establishing a government and bringing america long term peace...you might have a point.

Finally we see some proper extermination of Al-Qaeda types- Eithopian Army on one side, US Navy on the other. No where to run.

Then the US Air Force turns them into confetti from above.

That is how you fight an enemy.

I'm going to make a prediction right now: A-Q Islamists don't start any trouble with Eithopia for a long, long time.

Yeah, ground troops worked so well in Somalia last time.

The European Union can suck it. I don't see them volunteering their forces to help.

See... I disagree with a lot of American foreign policy. I think President Bush and Vice President Cheney should resign in disgrace for their chicanery around Iraq. I actually think another couple of days of diplomacy should have been tried with Afghanistan (there was some room for compromise that a more intelligent foreign policy team could have made room for), or, failing that, we should have left more troops in Afghanistan.

But this strike, I can agree with. Get the cooperation of the locals (the Ethiopians and the Transitional Federal Government), let them wipe out the base, and we'll hunt down the people who hurt us. This is how the War on Terror is supposed to work - make low-cost strikes on the people who are actually hurting us. The Iraqi people... they just want us the hell out of their country. But these Union of Islamic Courts people were aiding and abetting terrorists quite openly, and for that they deserved to be beaten up by the Ethiopians.

Furthermore, the end result is a more stable Somalia, in the long run. The Courts were already turning on the people, and vice versa - witness the Fall of Mogadishu for a telling example of just how little support they had left. The TFG can actually bring in the more stable region of Puntland, and possibly Somaliland (if arm-twisted), into a federal republic. By involving the warlords and making them work together, there is an opportunity to transition them into a more stable government. Is it going to be perfect? No. But it's better than Islamists creating a base for Al-Qaeda in the Horn of Africa - right next to Ethiopia and Kenya.

The 'help' needs to be in inverted commas, like so.

To be seen 'helping' the US is the worst possible thing that could happen to any EU country right now.

Ah, yes. Eurotards are self-renowned for their endless thinking and talking.

Notsomuch the 'acting' thing.

When europeans do something besides vote themselves more benefits from the public teat, give me a call.
