Maybe they should get a Santorium. Now THAT would be scary.
2006-12-20 12:41:52 PM
Did anyone else read that as "santorm"?

2006-12-20 12:43:49 PM
With zombie bellhops? What do you tip the walking dead anyway?
2006-12-20 12:45:16 PM
Santorum... as in "Rick"?

Metallica shakes head in dissaproval of spelling

Welcome to where time stands still
No one leaves and no one will
Moon is full, never seems to change
Just labeled mentally deranged
Dream the same thing every night
I see our freedom in my sight
No locked doors, no windows barred
No things to make my brain seem scarred

Sleep, my friend, and you will see
That dream is my reality
They keep me locked up in this cage
Can't they see it's why my brain says "rage"

Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone

Build my fear of what's out there
Cannot breathe the open air
Whisper things into my brain
Assuring me that I'm insane
They think our heads are in their hands
But violent use brings violent plans
Keep him tied, it makes him well
He's getting better, can't you tell?

No more can they keep us in
Listen, damn it, we will win
They see it right, they see it well
But they think this saves us from our hell

Sanitarium, leave me be
Sanitarium, just leave me alone

Just leave me alone

Fear of living on
Natives getting restless now
Mutiny in the air
Got some death to do
Mirror stares back hard
kill is such a friendly word
seems the only way
for reaching out again

/It can be spelled many ways

If I had any reason to go to Kentucky, I'd stay there.

The only thing worse than the frothy mix of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex, would be the 90 year old frothy mix of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex. Who would pay to sleep or eat there?
2006-12-20 12:50:27 PM
I better hope this place has, at the very least, the haunted cackling of its madmen or it's gonna get a bad rating.
2006-12-20 12:50:48 PM

That is really cool.
2006-12-20 12:51:04 PM
This is how every horror movie I've ever seen starts out. The old crazy house that's transformed into a hotel.

/wonder how many cars full of half-dressed teens will breakdown within walking distance of this B&B on stormy nights.

2006-12-20 12:54:58 PM
Sounds like they are trying to do their own version of Raven's Grin Inn....
2006-12-20 12:55:21 PM
Having toured the Waverly in both day and night I can say this: That place is frickin' creepy.

Kewl design, great setting, frickin' creepy.

The movie is called "Death Tunnel."
2006-12-20 12:55:37 PM
Cool....180,000sqft for $250,000. That's crazy!

Assumming they spend 1 mil or so renovating I bet they make a killing on this.
2006-12-20 12:56:38 PM
Hell yeah...thats awesome :) I'd gladly stay.

The concierges at this bed & breakfast are kinda creepin' me out.
2006-12-20 12:57:32 PM
Reminds me of the Lizzie Borden B & B(p). I stayed there back in 1998. Pretty cool. No ghosts that I ever saw, though.
2006-12-20 12:58:06 PM
How many rooms?

Not obscure
2006-12-20 12:58:07 PM
It's fun to explore those places while they're forgotten and neglected.

Once rebuilt and charging cash, not so much.
2006-12-20 12:58:42 PM
Damn you, Xerxes99! I was supposed to be the first one to make a Shining reference.
2006-12-20 01:00:36 PM
Yeah, I first read that as Santorum too
2006-12-20 01:00:50 PM

That's how I read it. I can understand the "bed" part, but frothy mix for "breakfast"?!?! No thanks.

"My name is a synonym for the frothy mix of lubricant and feces that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex." (explanation for Raven7)
2006-12-20 01:01:40 PM
Yeah, I read that as santorum first too. Damn, you Dan Savage! Well, actually, damn you, Rick Santorum, for being such a tool that Dan had to do it in the first place.
2006-12-20 01:04:22 PM
Oh man, I totally wanna stay there! Then I want to go to the Lizzie Borden house, then to the one in Michigan that lets you have a cat in your room at night.

/if that doesn't make sense to you, you need more coffee
2006-12-20 01:04:53 PM
I wouldn't go and change anything about Waverly, except to maybe restore it to it's former glory. I have seen way to many specials and read way to many accounts to see that place turned into a silly gimmick, and the people that suffered and died there deserve more than that.

Incidentally, did anyone ever see the Ghost Hunters episode on this place? I like those guys, as they are not ready to believe just anything, and first do everything they possibly can do to disprove what they saw, heard, or captured on film.

Some of the things they caught on the thermal camera creeped me out.

I go to school in a former mental hospital. So I'm getting a kick out of these replies... :p

True Story:

1990. I was on a "road trip" to Waycross, GA, to see a friend in exile, and the shortest/straightest way there was via route US 1/23 North. US 1 being a former main thoroughfare before the Eisenhower Interstate highways were all built, there are a dozen or more abandoned "Motor Hotels" all along the route. I was pretty close to the State line, when my &^%$# wiper motor gear stripped out (cheap-ass VW friggin' plastic), so I pulled over to check the problem. I happened upon one of those awful, deserted (looking) motels, and limped into the parking lot.

As I am struggling in the *pouring* rain to diagnose my wiper problem, this strange looking dude who looked like Riff Raff from the RHPS movie comes walking out of nowhere, sauntering in my general direction, with no protective clothing on or umbrella.

Now mind you, this place is already creepy as hell, especially in the orange Halogen glare from the lone street light, and I'm hoping this guy is offering assistance (in my pre-tools days,) but instead, he starts screaming out "YOU CAN'T BE HERE!" over and over.

Okay, now he's near touching distance, and it gets really creepy, so I ask the guy "Um, why not?", and in the same volume he screams out "THIS IS AN INSANE ASYLUM!"

He didn't have to tell me twice; I *immediately* dove back in my nearly crippled car, and sped off into the monsoon, hoping I wouldn't die on the road, but I was at least pretty sure I didn't want to die there.
2006-12-20 01:06:54 PM
Did anyone else read that as...

/wait, nevermind
2006-12-20 01:11:58 PM
I went on a night tour there a few months ago (at Halloween)...they said it would cost upwards of $80 million to restore he whole thing-it's H U G E !
(and scary)
((and cool))
(((a night tour is $20, a half night visit is $50, a whole night visit is $100)))

My brother-in-law goes up to Waverly all the time with temperature gauges and cameras to record the phenomenon up there. He is very conviced it is, not so much (although I;ve never been there...only driven by the place)...but I try not to let my kids know that I think their uncle is nuts.

Thanks. You owe me one Logitech Y-RK56A
2006-12-20 01:21:26 PM
Everyone I know has at least attempted to break in there. Well, until they started opening it up for Halloween, anyway.

We went once with the intentions of going in, but stories of a man with a shotgun and big dogs ended up scaring us away.

It's a creepy looking place, I'll give it that much.

The old asylum in Binghamton, NY is for sale... I wish somebody would do something with it... Here's the site:

That place is freakin cool. Growing up south of Louisville in Elizabethtown, I heard about this place all the time. If you go up and ask a security guard for a tour, a lot of times they'll show you around.

Saw the place on Ghost Hunters as well.

/Cool place
//Slashies haunt it

Man. When I saw that place on Ghost Hunters I told my SO I wanted to buy it from the owners and turn it into a cool bed and breakfast.

1858: NY State Inebriate Asylum

Heh, that's interesting.

I'd be far more interested in staying in a B & B that was in a converted mental asylum, especially one like that portrayed in Session 9.

Will Dr. Hugo Z. Hackenbush be making an appearance?

2006-12-20 01:43:40 PM
That place is creepy as hell looking. I've driven by there multiple times and have tried to convince my wife to go on a tour but she won't. One of the reasons why they got the place for so cheap was some idiot Jesus groupie. He wanted to tear it down and build the world's largest cross on the hill where it's built and looks out over that part of town. He couldn't just tear it down though because it's on the list of historical places so he did everything he could to destabalize it. He even went as far as not so discretely letting it be known that he wouldn't exactly have guards posted if vandals wanted to come in and do stuff to the building in hopes that it would condemned and he could build his mega-cross. Luckily that never happened but in his care a LOT of damage was done that the owners are now trying to undo. Really interesting place though and I would definitely love to check it out sometime.

At least they're getting some use out of those buildings.

Insane -> sanatariums -> close sanitariums (for PC reasons and with no forethought) -> become homeless/jailbirds

Thank you. I aim to please.

Session 9

Hope these people make a sincere and respectful effort at renovation, unlike the bastards that bought Danvers State Insane Asylum and tore it down to build condos. Made Fark several months ago, when the Historical Society was still fighting it in court.

/anyone else here remember that?
2006-12-20 01:53:21 PM
I saw that building in one of those ghost shows on cable. Man that show was a waste of time... The show's pretty much just grainy black screen or black/green footage of a guy going "what's that!?"

I almost called and wanted asked for my money back.
2006-12-20 01:53:34 PM
Ophelia's Snorkel...I remember that & hope that these people will be more respectful of the history of the building.
