Is "rain on your wedding day" ironic or just unfortunate? "Ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife" - again, I question whether this is ironic.

//Alanis - instead of just trying to make things rhyme, work on your lyrics.

That would have been ironic if they had gotten food safety at a food safety conference.

wait.......what?

2006-12-09 4:42:09 PM
Shadow Blasko, actually I think there might be one example of irony in that song:

And as the plane crashed down, he said, "Well isn't this nice?"

That's a prime example of verbal irony. However, the unnecessary leadup has nothing to do with irony, and I'd argue that she happened upon one example of irony purely by accident.

/By the way, I was just kidding earlier. Great headline/use of Ironic tag.

jakech, yes, but sarcasm is also generally ironic.

Sarcasm definition from Merriam-Webster:

1 : a sharp and often satirical or ironic utterance designed to cut or give pain
2 a : a mode of satirical wit depending for its effect on bitter, caustic, and often ironic language that is usually directed against an individual

An incident at a "five-star hotel" in downtown San Jose, California:

...Last April 26 and 27, the venture capitalists held a conference at the Fairmont. When it was done, more than 100 who attended fell sick with gastrointestinal ailments, including diarrhea and vomiting. A probe by the county health department pointed to a food handler -- known as "Foodhandler A" -- who came to work sick and infected the food, notably one day's pastrami sandwiches.

Shadow Blasko: Is it ironic that a song about irony contains no irony?

Is it ironic that a song about irony is frequently cited as having no irony when in fact two of the situations depicted are actually examples of cosmic irony?

A charade wrapped in a tortilla wrapped in an enigma!

I tried the pedants. They were a little salty, but otherwise not too bad. I wouldn't order them again, though.
