I'd buy one ... if it didn't cost too much ... if there was somewhere to buy fuel ... if the top speed was 80 instead of 50 ... if ... if ... if
2006-11-21 01:07:51 PM
It can go from a standing start to 30 mph in 7.3 seconds and [asymptotically] reaches a top speed of 50 mph.

/edited for correctness

This is a wonderful way to use the intersection of technology and politics to create the world's slowest shiattiest, most expensive, and least energy efficient vehicles.
2006-11-21 01:08:54 PM
Given the top speed an acceleration, the Florida tag has a serious case for contention here.

The bike's body has an organic look and feel

Uh...I think this assclown missed the pic of the bike.

does that killing of the electric car have to do with GM buying up the bus transportation and running them into the ground with firestone and that concret comanpny?
2006-11-21 01:10:38 PM
if you get one you have to put a card in the spokes.
2006-11-21 01:10:50 PM
Runs silently? Did four SUVs run into it at once because it didn't have "loud pipes".
2006-11-21 01:11:02 PM
Wow, that fast?
2006-11-21 01:11:21 PM
2 missile pods and a front mounted 50 .cal Browning and we're in business.

You there...with the bong....
2006-11-21 01:12:20 PM
Where in the fark do you get all the electricty/hydrogen dumbasses?

Yes, this is all a conspiracy by 'Big Oil' and 'Big Business' and has nothing to do with 'Fundamnetla Engineering Principles' or 'Basic Chemistry'...

The truth is out there, and only you, the brave internet crusaders can find it!
2006-11-21 01:13:16 PM
Well, it's a good start. You have to start somewhere.
2006-11-21 01:14:43 PM
Ok, impossible to find fuel, no gear shift, no back brake, accellerates like a mac truck. Bubba thats not a motorcycle, thats overhyped moped. I think I could bench press that thing, hell I think my wife could. Why do we have to keep making these things half assed?

I want a sport bike design, forget the miles per gallon of whatever fuel its using, insane acceleration and a top end that makes the local cops shudder in fear. Safety? not a factor. If it dont make me feel like screaming "Tetsuo!" when I climb on the thing then send it back for a redesign!
2006-11-21 01:15:14 PM
When we discussed this two years ago, they were working on some sort of 'loud pipe' attachment thingie.
2006-11-21 01:15:20 PM
Loud pipes save lives!!

Like has been stated, hydrogen has been called a no way by many in the energy industry. I for one am glad that this PROTOTYPE looks so promising. That would make the perfect around town vehicle where you wouldn't be going any faster than 45 anyway.

And with all prototypes, the later models will be faster, better, cheaper, and possibly non-motorcycle. :)

I am happy about this.

Wow.. articles from the future!!

Anyone else check the date on that one?

Car companies don't want electric or hydrogen cars because it would cost billions in plant reconstruction to shift production lines and just as much lost in petroleum based research on car engines.

Next question.
2006-11-21 01:17:59 PM
scooter, not motorcycle
2006-11-21 01:18:42 PM
For one, I predict hydrogen dies as a viable major fuel source in personal vehicles.

That aside, a silent motorcycle is one that gets its rider killed. I ride a 1970 Honda 450 to work most days (today included), and I often wish the pipes were just a touch louder. Of course, nowadays everybody's on their cell phones while driving, anyway, so it probably wouldn't do that much good. They just merge right into you like you don't exist and keep on going.
2006-11-21 01:21:14 PM
Or you could buy a car and not have to worry about your penis being too smal........ltzy, Schmaltzy yeah that's what I was going to say!

That's good thinking because car companies have been using the same machinery and plant lines to build Ford GTs as For Model Ts and the only way any modernization cost is incurred is if the engines in the cars run on hydrogen. It's just a rule.

Also the companies would lose out on all that moolah from 'petroleum based research on car engines' which is actually a revenue item and not an expense one pays as every business person in the entire world falsely assumes it is.

Loud pipes save lives!!

I used to laugh at that, then I rode my Sportster for the first few months. Asside from setting off car alarms wherever I go I love the fact that I am damn near impossible to ignore when cars are driving next to me, sure its annoying but if they cant see ya then make them hear ya.

/used to drive a beemer sport-touring bike.
//was a fricking stealth-bike by comparison.
2006-11-21 01:22:30 PM
This isn't the first. There was a FARK article last year about a British bike that was hydrogen powered. As I remember, the biggest problem was that it was so quiet that nobody could hear you coming, which escalated into a flame war about loud pipes/helmets, etc

/it's a scooter anyway
//love my harley
2006-11-21 01:22:40 PM
Someone should tell those people that photographing a black bike in front of a black background might sound artisitic and cool, but it's really just fukcing stupid.
2006-11-21 01:22:41 PM
I saw articles on this thing about a year ago... Only two things I don't like about. First, the top speed limits you to city driving. Second, the acceleration is too slow. A motorcycle's biggest safety feature is its acceleration, in my opinion, and this bike is a too slow. A moped can out accelerate this thing.

To those who say "hard to get fuel"... Any welding gas store can get you a bottle of hydrogen. Hydrogen is easy to get.
2006-11-21 01:22:42 PM
tinfoil hats in 3, 2 ,1
2006-11-21 01:24:52 PM
wow that sounds pretty crappy, 0-30 in 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 50?. You could probably do the same on a scooter, or just put a scooter engine on your mountain bike.
2006-11-21 01:25:30 PM
Some Texan: Loud pipes save lives!!

I'll bite. That's silly.

It'd make for a decent urban scooter. Maybe the next incarnation will have more ass.

You went from a BMW to a Harley? How's that improved performance treating you?
2006-11-21 01:27:51 PM
Emailed this company for specs and planned availability a few months back.

No response.

Lost a buyer.
2006-11-21 01:29:42 PM
Loud pipes should be outlawed and helmets should be mandatory.
2006-11-21 01:30:49 PM
Just one question, where are they getting the hydrogen from? Did they get it directly from a fossil fuel source or did they use a fossil fuel to create electricity which was used to get H2 from water via electrolysis?

Those methods may produce less CO2 but don't kid yourself into thinking that H2 fuel cells reduce our need for fossil fuels. Unless they can come up with a better way it's just rearranging the deck on the titanic.
2006-11-21 01:30:51 PM
"That aside, a silent motorcycle is one that gets its rider killed. "

So, we should all ride around honking and with sirens all the time to avoid getting hit? Is that what the booming car stereos are about, SAFETY?

Stupidity gets motorcycle riders killed. Not quietness.
2006-11-21 01:31:07 PM
I have been passed by the loudest, most obnoxious bikes. I could barely hear them at all until they passed me. 90% of the noise goes to the bike's rear.

And yes I ride a motorcycle too. I would love if it were quieter.
2006-11-21 01:31:58 PM
I don't mind a bike loud enough to keep you safe, but within reason please. And a loud bike is nothing to be proud of. I could hit my lawnmowers muffler with a hammer and get the same effect.
2006-11-21 01:32:16 PM

let me guess... get off your lawn
2006-11-21 01:35:25 PM
Wow, this story is reaching "Jason Voorhees" status. This is at least the third, and possibly the fourth, time I've seen it.

/not complaining, just interesting.
2006-11-21 01:35:55 PM
What the fark is up with you guys and loud pipes? People with decent cars do not hear it anyway. Besides if most of you were not constantly cutting from one lane to another and hiding in peoples blind spots you might not get hit so often.
2006-11-21 01:36:12 PM
Yes, obviously because these losers can't engineer a decent bike means that fuel cell or hybrid bikes are all wallowing pigs in terms of performance, right?

[image from hybrid-vehicles.net too old to be available]

0-60 in 6 sec, tops out at 80mph.

They had an all-electric version first with similar performance but only 50 mile range. The diesel hybrid solved that.

But for some reason, nobody would buy them for $5500 and they stopped plans to produce them...
2006-11-21 01:36:50 PM
Hydrogen may be produced directly from sunlight by ionizing water through which a DC current is passed. I forget whether the hydrogen gravitates to the positive or vice versa, but DON'T LIGHT A MATCH to check!

According to the Third Law of thermodynamics(or thermo-goddamics, we like to call it) the more times you change the form of energy, the more power you use.

Go straight to the sun.
2006-11-21 01:37:32 PM
Sergent D
Get the energy to crack water with fission or solar, then no more fossil fuel needed.
2006-11-21 01:37:51 PM
You went from a BMW to a Harley? How's that improved performance treating you?

Heheh, My hands keep going to sleep, repair bills about the same in the long run, the sportster has had more problems so far on average but the k75s cost more to fix. Top end the Beemer owned but the Harley hauls my oversized gut around with less complaints but I miss the speed. I would happily switch to an alternate fuell motorcycle, but hell motorcycles already use a third of the fuell of most cars so why start at the bottom?

/know why harley riders almost never wave back?
//Thier arms are numb.
///if it aint a daily driver why bother?
