Huntsville Police have confirmed to NewsChannel 19 that two students died. Before, they had said four had died, but have decreased that number to two.

Just to the left of this statement, it says "Four students confirmed dead". I wish they'd make up their minds.

Parents at the scene tell NewsChannel 19 crews their children called them from cell phones as soon as the bus hit the ground, and they rushed to the scene.

Damn cell phones.

All those parents stuck in the traffic jam .... upset that they can't through .... while just adding to the traffic congestion.

side bar says that the bus may have been cut off. but who can believe this story? Four CONFIRMED dead....now two? How can you UNCONFIRM a fact?

This is how farked up our society is: We pay the least (money, respect, attention) to those who care for our children and the most to those who care for our money (CEO's, Lawmakers, etc.).

I hate when people don't stop for buses.

I tried to submit this with a worse headline.

Reports are that a car cut the bus off on the highway, causing it to swerve and, you guessed it, fly off the overpass.

Driver is awake and talking.

I drove by this accident about 10 minutes after it happened. It looked pretty damn scary. I didn't even see the bus below the interstate.

They have confirmed two dead at the scene and several others critical at the hospitals. Freaky.

The bus ended up below the I-565 overpass, its front end crushed.
"It looks like the bus plunged headfirst," police spokesman Wendell Johnson said.

Brilliant. CSI at it's best.

I hope this bus didn't have one of those security cameras on board. It would hit YouTube by tonight.

Oh, I see. It comes to dead kids, and that's where we have to draw the line? As Bill Hicks said, "What does that mean? They reach a certain age and they're off your farking love-list? fark your children, if that's the way you think then fark you too. You either love all people of all ages or you shut the fark up."

Before, I just snickered at the headline, especially since the CNN story trots out the old "bus plunge" cliche. Now, that I know you've got sand in your mangina about it, it's absolutely hilarious.

The wheels on the bus go round and round,

The horn on the bus goes Beep, beep, beep;

The money on the bus goes, Clink, clink, clink;

Clink, clink, clink.
The money on the bus goes, Clink, clink, clink,
all through the town.

The Driver on the bus says "Move on back,

The baby on the bus says "Wah, wah, wah;
Wah, wah, wah;

The mommy on the bus says "Shush, shush, shush;

Substitute these also:

The lady on the bus says, "Get off my feet"...
The people on the bus say, "We had a nice ride"...
"Your name" on the bus says Let Me Off!

This is how farked up our society is: We pay the least (money, respect, attention) to those who care for our children and the most to those who care for our money (CEO's, Lawmakers, etc.).

ummmm. A bus driver doesnt even need a high school education to complete thier jorb. Driving a school bus is barely a skilled labor.

Even kids can drive busses. Remember the story of the kid who drove a bus from New Orleans to Houston. HE HAD NO BUS DRIVING TRAINING!

I wonder how well that same kid could run a fortune 500 business or debate some bill on capital hill?

Think about it!

Also, bus drivers do not take care of "our children". They are paid to transport them to and from school. A bus driver cannot even touch an unruly kid that is beating up another kid or on their bus. If they do, odds are they will get fired and most likely sued!

I know this is quite a novel concept, but its a parents job to take care of "our children".

BTW: this is a very sad story.

For someone with a low 5 digit account # you seem actually surprised by the headline. Dude desensitize, you will be a happier person.

2006-11-20 2:49:45 PM
I've always wondered why they don't have seatbelts on school buses.

Granted, when you were a little kid in the back of the bus, hitting a huge bump was great because it guaranteed you'd go flying :)

We all die sometime. Some before they get on the bus ... some after they get off ... and some while on it.

This headline was Ok, as it did not make light of the fact that children died, only referring to "flipping off" in the article headline. I wished this wreck hadn't happened, but it did. You knew it was going to be submitted to Fark and there are way more insensitive headlines all over TFark, believe me.

I've always wondered why they don't have seatbelts on school buses.

I read about a study that suggested seatbelts on a school bus would pose more of a danger to people.

I don't think seat-belts would have helped in this situation, though ...

Oh, I don't know whether they would've helped in this situation, either.

I just bring it up whenever I read about accidents involving school buses.

So far, nobody's ever really been able to say why there aren't seatbelts on school buses.

Bio-nic: To all the people getting a laugh out of this sad tragedy.
YES YOUR GOING TO HELL/

The nuns in Catholic school told me I was going to hell. That was 3rd grade. So, I figure, since I already have reservations there, I should just have fun now.

Everybody's got something that they're "sensitive" about.... for instance, schmack or Bio-nic might just be school bus drivers....

Fark isn't changing anytime soon. Go look at some fluffy bunnies or puppies. It might help.

I lucked out. My son attends Columbia High here in Huntsville.

Once I confirmed with his school that he was OK, I called his grandmothers, aunts, and uncles in other states to let them know he wasn't on the bus. It really hadn't hit the news widespread at the time. I would have even called my ex-wife at work, but I don't have her number here at my job. So I asked her mom to tell her ASAP.

I'll stay out of the debate on whether or not the headline was appropriate. It'd suck if a Farker's kid was hurt or killed here. So perhaps bad taste and dark humor should be tempered for a bit.
