I have no idea why the precip turned out purple. My guess is that it's a mix of the sunset light and the hail; we plowed through a lot of hail before we finally got in front of the thing.

Kim Sŏng-ju, a.k.a. Kim Il-sung (means "become the sun") and "Great Leader". The guy's been dead since 1994 and he's *still* the president of North Korea. All visitors to the country are required by law to bow to the statue of him in Mansudae Square within 24hrs. of arrival in the DPRK. North Korea's calendar system begins with the year of his birth, and it's illegal to rip, fold, crumple, soil, damage, etc. any photo or representation of him. (Newspapers containing pictures of him have to be disposed of carefully with this in mind.)

It's a book-binding stapler. If you printed War and Peace on 8.5x11" in size 8 font on 20lbs bond paper, you could staple two of them together.

A very well-defined storm line, the powerful storm caused massive flooding, and gusts of 79MPH knocked down a lot of trees. It is also the reason it's been colder in much of the lower 48 than here in Alaska.
