My mom always took me to see whatever she saw when I was a kid. And I think I turned out $(@&&!?+~^*% great!

Take her to The Departed, then rent "Behind the Green Door" to cement the proper upbringing. Good parenting skills.

People are lazy, selfish, and stupid.

/saw little kids in TCSM:TB auditorium this weekend.

2006-10-10 2:19:32 PM
If it were me, I wouldn't have sold them the tickets.

Why this wouldn't be considered child abuse is beyond me...

Tomorrow the girl will take a giant dildo to school for Show and Tell; when she gets in trouble her parents will no doubt sue.

Public humiliation is a great deterrent. Bring back the stocks, I say!

2006-10-10 2:20:59 PM
My wife and I saw a couple bring their 6 year old to 6th Sense.
When the shotgun blast to the head kid showed up, this little kid screamed and his dad says, "Oh, it wasn't that scarey."

I plan on getting the greenlight when this kid starts shooting people from a clocktower here in town.

I believe that they had to cut back in some of the violence and swearing in order to maintain an R rating.
Which is why you see ole girls mouth say a word, but something different comes out. --anyone else catch that?

2006-10-10 2:24:18 PM
Shaken, we drove home and wondered if we'd crossed the line.

While I certainly do not agree with bringing children to an ultra-violent movie, I think the answer to this is a definite "yes."

2006-10-10 2:24:23 PM
People who brought little kids to the movie = retarded.
Writer who just had to tell them that = retarded.

See, it all evens out in the end.

I saw a bunch of kids when we went to see Starship Troopers.

I was looking around and I asked my wife if the movie was rated 'R' or not. I was beginning to think maybe it was PG or PG-13.

I also remember all the letters to the editor that ran in our paper after the South Park movie came out. All these parents and grandparents were complaining about the movie and how they had to walk out during the very beginning because it wasn't appropriate for children.

*head hurts now*

So for those of you out there who are apparently unaware - there is actually a rating system for movies. Yeah. You can go to their website and find out what it means when there is that big 'R' next to the film. It may shock you to learn that it has nothing to do with politics...

2006-10-10 2:27:27 PM
For me, watching these young kids exposed to almost three hours of violence -- which I instinctively knew, and now studies have proven, could have a profound and lasting negative effect on their psyches -- was nothing short of blatant child abuse and neglect.

I was mostly with her up to this point.

Somebody tell a clueless non-media-consuming geek what this means?

2006-10-10 2:28:31 PM
has anyone ever in history been able to tell a person how to raise their children, and in public no less? i realize in this case it was the sister that took them, but the author assumed it was the mother.

i don't know what the author was trying to do here, except be a busybody and an a/w.

2006-10-10 2:28:51 PM
All of these very stupid parents fall into 2 categories..

1. Claim that THEIR child understands the difference between movies and reality.

2. Claim that most of it goes over THEIR childs head.

Both of these types of morons are wrong.

2006-10-10 2:29:13 PM
BTW, this is the kind of crap that will make movie ratings mandatory and regulated like they're trying to do with games.

2006-10-10 2:29:24 PM
My four year old understands that movies are not real.

/I still would'nt take her, pretend or not, it just aint right.

That only applies to other peoples children.

It's amazing. The writer of this article successfully made me hate her more than the family she's writing about.

And that's why you don't work at a movie theater. Ratings are not enforced by anyone except the theater, and they're only enforced to the extent that minors must have an adult present. They aren't laws, they're meant to inform the consumer what they're in for.

2006-10-10 2:34:34 PM
There were a few kids 6-8 at running around the aisles of the theater when I say Jackass Two. This was a midnight showing, too.

If they're the open-air type.

I don't know if I would actually ever tell anyone how to rasie their kids. I hate this "nanny state" we have developed over the years. But at the same time, you have to wonder about parents who let their kids go to movies like this. Having said that, you would think the writer should have taken a hint about type of folks they were dealing with, given that they were there with the younglings.

I went through this when Event Horizon came out. Watched the movie with my oldest son (17) while youngest stayed at home (too young). Had a hard time concentrating on the movie at times, thanks to the family in front with three little kids.

Santa Monica is getting ready to pass that. The restaurant/bar owners that spent the money on outdoor patios for the smokers are pretty livid.

Josh The Stampede: And that's why you don't work at a movie theater.

Actually my degree and the low salary of ticket-sellers is why I don't work in a theater.

If I owned the theater I'm sure I could refuse to sell tickets for any reason that I wanted to. Most businesses have the right to refuse service as long as it isn't due to race or something like that.

Telling somebody I think he's an idiot for taking his 5 year-old to see that kind of movie and refusing to sell him tickets - I think I could do that...

My first thought too. Distracted me from the issue.

How did the author know they were little girls and not midgets? Pretty presumptuous of her.

2006-10-10 2:43:40 PM
Any time I see a child under ten at a movie showing after 9 pm, I get pissed off at their parents, who clearly don't understand the concept of "bedtime". Extra hate if the child is under 5.

I do not, however, tell them as much.

Hey, you know, we have instructions on shampoo, we have warning labels telling adults not to put their hairdryer in the bathtub, and we let people sue because the instructions for the cruise control didn't say you had to steer the vehicle...

I think that if we can devote that kind of energy towards protecting people that farking stupid, then we can take some time to tell them that, No, they can't bring a 5 year old to see a violent movie and No, you can't bring a toddler into a movie at 10 PM.

Just look at it this way: People had first shot at this. If the vast majority of parents were not completely retarded then this wouldn't be an issue and we wouldn't be having this conversation. Since it is an issue, we will do our best to correct it until it, once again, becomes a non-issue.

That's sweet. With parents like that, the daughters will be farked by 14 and preggers by 15, perpetuating the gene cesspool of human trash.

The Departed isn't an appropriate movie for anyone who pays to get in.
