(Yahoo)   Nancy Pelosi plans to take over the House, completely get rid of lobbyists, enact all 9/11 commission recommendations and raise minimum wage. In the first week after the election. Yeah, good luck with that   (news.yahoo.com) divider line

Someone tell her that the 110th isn't actually seated until 2 1/2 months after the election.

2006-10-06 11:05:32 AM
What's wrong with any of that?

2006-10-06 11:06:38 AM
Maybe she can borrow Mayor David Miller's Broom.

Not like I believe that any of this is more than election-year platitudes, but I don't see how any of that is a bad idea.

2006-10-06 11:07:25 AM
... but can she cook?

Um, the changeover doesn't take place until January

Go, sister.

If you RTFA, a lot of what she said is good for america and the legislature.

-Lowering intrest rates on student loans is bad? Making it easier for Americans to get an education is bad?
-Cutting out lobbyists and taking the big "For Sale" sign off of our representatives is bad?
-Enacting the 9/11 commision recomendations to make America safer is bad?

Sure, it may be election year platitudes, but with any luck some of it may happen. Like enacting all of the 9/11 commision suggestions and making america safer.

Actually think of what's best for the country and its people? That's unpossible!

2006-10-06 11:18:41 AM
I didnt see anything wrong with anything she said, but I will not hold my breath. I dont think all the democrates what to have the lobbiest money dry up, and I dont the republicans are going to play nice. I also know that taxs have to be raised to keep the dollar from falling to the value of the peso, but it is hard for short term thinking lawmakers to raise taxes (see Bush 1)

2006-10-06 11:20:46 AM
I didn't see anything about the first week "after the elections". Hell, not even "week".

2006-10-06 11:21:34 AM
Raising taxes in the middle of a war is bad. Don't ya know?

2006-10-06 11:23:28 AM
We should all save the link to this story for the next time a Republican accuses Democrats of Bush-bashing and not having any positive ideas of their own. That's a pretty well-put-together agenda, with several things (lobbying rules and pay-as-you-go especially) that real conservatives would get behind.

If she's sincere...i hope it gets done.
If she's just sprouting it as an empty promise to get more votes, i hope she DIAF.

big_pth: Like enacting redoing all of the 9/11 Commision suggestions Report, finding the Bush Administration guilty, sentencing them to death, and making America safer.

If they accomplish even one of those items, they will have surpassed the 109th by leaps and bounds.

I'm not holding my breath though.

Okay, so we've heard the Democrats' plan.

Republicans: what's your plan?

Hey, all she needs is a Democratic majority, which she will have.

It's not our fault your team sucks ass and couldn't get a single thing passed that didn't involve removing/ignoring Constitutional rights...

Hey, we don't need plans. We umm, have morals. Yeah. We do that moral thing. That's what they told me to say. We have God, so we must be right. God likes us better. That's why our guys are right. We have the white hats and stuff. We are a christian nation. ummmm, Hang on (sound of papers ruffling, mouse clicks)

Clinton got a blowjob.

2006-10-06 11:49:14 AM
Those wouldn't be such bad ideas if she wasn't flat-out lying.

Yeah, because raising the minimum wage is something the democrats would never do.

2006-10-06 11:51:58 AM
If she can get all that done, President Romney should make her one of his wives.

2006-10-06 11:52:23 AM
With a Republican-controlled gov't, I find it hilarious that the party of "We're here to keep you safe from terrorists" hasn't bothered with any of the 9/11 Commission's recommendations and that now it's the Democrats who get to use that as an issue.

The GOP is cowardice. They love their talking points and there memes, but yet they never seem to accomplish anything to make them reality.

What they seem to be very good at is eroding away our rights, bit by bit.

2006-10-06 11:52:25 AM
Unpimp ze Congress.

2006-10-06 11:57:05 AM
while everything she's saying is, obviously, A Good Thing(tm)...

This is Washington we're talking about. I'll believe it when I see it - especially the part about lobbyists. And even after, I'll still disbelieve.

Nothing against Pelosi. This just comes across as the ultimate pie-in-the-sky campaign promise, and I'm inclined to dismiss it out-of-hand.

Puppeteer_23: when the dems try to get some of these things done, and the repubs try to block them for political purposes

Won't happen. The Republicans have drained all power out of the minority in the House. They never seem to understand that the weapons they forge will, be used against them some day.

The the Dems get both houses, the best Republicans can do is fillibuster. Can you imagine that?

Increase Minimum wage: fillibuster.
End corporate lobbying: fillibuster.
Enact 9/11 Commission reccomendations: fillibuster.

2006-10-06 12:10:18 PM
Then again, they can get Bush to take a few more for the team and veto all those as well. Still would be bad news for Republicans.

Haha! A picture of a donkey looking stupid. Obviously the democrats are going to fail just as badly as the Republicans.

I mean, just look at him.
