Wal-Fart. The greatest conquerer since Alexander the Great.

Kind of off topic, but I'm so tired of people calling Walmart "Wally World",and then assuming I know they're talking about Walmart. Even though I realize what they're talking about, I always ask what they mean, to force them to say Walmart.

What't the point of a nickname if it's longer than the real name?

2006-09-21 11:47:08 AM
This is because Wal Mart has yet to be able to outsource Big Pharma to China as well.

Such a simple concept, and yet even so the Neo-Con submitter can't grok it...

/I keed.
//No please don't start a war on me.

Its not the generic drugs that are the main problem.

Maybe Walmart will drive all the generic drug makers out of business and then we will be forced to buy the $25 a pill brand names.

Wal-Mart becomes self aware in 3... 2...

"I'm on disability and my benefits run out by the end of the month," he said. "It comes down to where do I go for a $100 prescription? I have no outlet other than to break a pill in half and take half today and half tomorrow."

It probably depends on the drug, but isn't this pretty stupid in a lot of cases? Half a dosage may not even have an effect.

For instance, if you took birth control this way, you'd probably end up pregnant.

2006-09-21 11:48:08 AM
Prediction: somehow, some way, anti-capitalists are going to have a problem with this. Mom and pop druggists who charge $400 for a prescription are going to be put out of business, perhaps?

Odd, you mean the business owners who want you to pay more for goods did.

If the town didn't want Wal-Mart they wouldn't have had to fend it off, instead they would just not shop there.

They made it look like it was some sort of moral decision, when in reality it was just greed and your town was a sucker.

2006-09-21 11:49:07 AM
If by "taking on" you mean ensuring a greater profit share for themselves from the said pharmaco's already gold-digger prices.

Great PR, since they need it right now...

Coincidence?

2006-09-21 11:49:50 AM
The polititians will never allow Big Pharma to go under. Who will bribe them then? Oil?? Tobacco?!? No thanks. Stick with a mouthful of boner pills while simultaneously telling me that THC is of The Devil and Janet's boob corrupted our children (ohhh! a new Smiling Bob commercial!!!).

2006-09-21 11:49:54 AM
You kiddin me? pharmaceutical companies are just as crooked.

2006-09-21 11:50:04 AM
How nice of them to make pharmas cheaper.... now if only their employees didn't need to go the emergency room everytime they had a headache because they don't have health insurance, we'd really get somewhere

2006-09-21 11:50:12 AM
Who do I cheer for here? It's like the Iron Shiek vs. The Million Dollar Man.

2006-09-21 11:50:31 AM
It's hard to say "takes on big pharmaceutical companies" without immediately thinking "because they stand to make billions and billions".

They aren't in the business of helping people, they're in the business of making money, seemingly, any way possible.

2006-09-21 11:50:46 AM
Fark This!: Such a simple concept, and yet even so the Neo-Con submitter can't grok it...

I wonder how many these damn kids know what grok is

\get off the lawn ya little bastid
\\still suspicious of wallmart
\\\kill all pharmacy and expand monopoly perhaps?????

Spin, Wal*Mart haters, spin, spin! Spin like you're at a Grateful Dead concert, and your life depends on it! SPIN AWAY, I beg of thee!

2006-09-21 11:51:26 AM
Between this and their becomming the largest dealer in organic produce, it's getting pretty hippy up in that place.

2006-09-21 11:51:27 AM
Hey, this is awesome!!!!
Now Sprawl-Mart will be able to hand out, at the front door, the mindbending chemicals neccesary to spend more than 5 minutes in one of those cesspools.

Hooray for cheap Chinese labor and Pharmies!!1!

As someone who take A LOT of medications (antipsychotics, mainly), I am very happy about this! My medicine copay with INSURANCE is either $10, $20, or $30 depending on the prescription.

I now love walmart and will from this day forth forever be a shopper there.

Do you think they will fill my dog's remadyl too? MY GOD -it's $150 every time I refill it! NO COPAY for the dog! I don't know why, he's a dependant.

//off to send walmart an email thanking them
///also to ask about the remadyl

Want to help the poor?

Let capitalism do what it does best... encourage competition.

YEAH Wal-Mart!

2006-09-21 11:52:41 AM
"because they stand to make billions and billions".

Any competition is better than none. The only time MORE competition lowers the overall product is in cases of "monopoly" (not the right term here, but I'm thinking Cell Phone companies, High-Speed Internet companies, etc).

2006-09-21 11:52:54 AM
Isn't it amazing that private companies like Walmart can solve certain health care issues and the government can't?

/I hope the government stays out

krastar, WM has started a new low-cost health insurance plan, so more employees can get it.

If people continue slinging "neo-con" around, I'm going to resume using "moonbat". 95% of you don't even know what neo-con means, based on how you use it.

I am a diabetic.. and due to my craptastic insurance, I currently have to pay $60 a month for my meds. This would nock that down to $8.. still conflicted. maybe if I hold my breath the whole time I'm there ....

2006-09-21 11:54:14 AM
Wal*Mart is about as socialist as they come, why do the lefties hate it so much? People who tout Wal*Mart as Capitalist don't know the meaning of the word. Capitalism != "Making as much money as you can in any way possible."

Capitalism relies on two important things: Competition, and Information. Wal*Mart thrives on destroying both and by definition cannot be considered Capilatist.

Not to mention the Fact that they do billions of dollars worth of business in/with the world's Premier Communist Country.

2006-09-21 11:54:36 AM
It's the large Drug companies that are in bed with the republicans as evidenced by the Medicare no price negotiation clause that will lose out!

/so what again does this have to do with Liberals

how the hell does selling generics at a loss hurt big pharmaceutical companies? first off, the generics aren't even manufactured by the big pharmaceutical companies. and second, the profit loss doesn't make it back to the manufacturers because walmart is taking the loss.

As someone who pays for a LOT of medications (including anti-psychotics) for someone else, I'm giving an eye to WM when this plan hits NC (or "if"). You can't live without 3 or 4 doses per day, 30 doses per month, 12 months per year. You pay what they ask, and you like it. Not a fun place to be, but it keeps the Psychiatric ER out of my life for another month...

/I'm a Sam's Club member... do we get to pay $3.50???

Interesting. This Monday, Ralph Nader is coming to my college to give a speech about the pharmecutical industry, and its supposed price gouging.

This will be interesting to bring up in the Q&A session. Anyone have any idea how to phrase it?

If you call it in under your name to a very busy Big Box store phamacy 9 times out of 10 they will only charge you the co-pay. Worked with my mutt's valium, maybe.

No. I'm not that rich! Dang. If I was making $5.15/hr, I would be living it up like a fat cat, right next door to you, smoking some weed, getting stoned all day, and spinning in my living room listening to the Dead man! Keep on truckin'!

2006-09-21 11:57:29 AM
Generics manufacturers != big pharma

Thats why they're generics, the patents expired and big pharma moved onto something else.

2006-09-21 11:58:04 AM
Liberal?

I'm pretty freakin conservative, and I don't like Wal-Mart's race to the bottom.

With that said, I'm not going to get too upset when one unethical, borderline criminal organization tries to screw another unethical, borderline criminal organization.

Kind of like Crips killing Bloods.

I'll sit back and be happy with the fact that they're weakening each other.

Umm, large drug companies are in bed with the republicans and democrats.

Besides, Medicare has something for all those in power to love, votes due to dependency

2006-09-21 11:58:31 AM
Notice the words - TEST PROGRAM. This has nothing to do with Wal-mart becoming less evil, and everthing to do with them leveraging better prices from their drug suppliers.

Mark my words, this is the last you will hear about this program...

Our Sams Club pharmacist is a hero to me. He goes above and beyond what needs to be done every time to find ways to get us coverage or find rebates on prescriptions. He even hoards our commons scripts if there is a price increase.

He has also been the one (much more than the piss poor state docs) to find dangerous interactions or even some bizzare ones. (I know thats *is* his job, but good luck getting Walgreens to do it.

/Hates Wal-Mart
//Loves Sams Club (Its about how they treat their employees)
///I know it makes no sense.

2006-09-21 12:00:11 PM
They are just doing it to kill their competition and they can get away with it because they can eat the losses by selling more cheap chinese made trinkets.

Once the other local drug stores go out of business, prices will rise again. It's wal-mart's modus operandi.
