Is it just me or does Sean Penn strike you as someone who is mildly retarded? I'm not sure what it is about the guy, he's just always seemed a little 'not there' or something.

Maybe it's those squinty eyes?

[Insert obligatory I am Sam reference]

Sean Penn...Hmmmmm...How smart can a guy whose wife asks their child's third grade teacher, "What's and average"...

Robin and Sean are a match made in retardation.

I hate it when I am trying to insult someone elses intelligence and make a frickin typo...

That should have read "What's an average"...Dang it.

No I am Sam reference here.
But how about a Fast Times quote?

"If we don't get some cool rules of our own, pronto, we'll just be bogus too."

I came in here to say "I hate that guy!"

I hate that guy!

That is all.

JohnnyC says:

"Is it just me or does Sean Penn strike you as someone who is mildly retarded?"

The only thing that I would disagree with is the "mildly" part. I believe that you're pulling your punch just a bit too much. Stone stupid, that more Sean Penn, in my book.

He's gone Streep on us. Wonder what next dead person he'll play for a trifecta.

Next up: Michael Moore as Abraham Lincoln

Actually, Penn has a reputation as one of the most intelligent actors in Hollywood.

His alcoholism is quite well documented too, however.

Dudes, he's an actor. As in, someone who's paid to pretend he's someone else, more or less convincingly. If every word wasn't pre-written and -memorised, it'd be hard to make anyone look like Einstein. With a script and multiple takes, almost anyone (who can act) (and sit through makeup) can do it. And Penn can act--he's not the best on the planet, but he's competent.

I assume he can also sit through makeup, but then I've never met the man.

someone post that pic of him with the shotgun in a boat, in 2 inches of water

Ben Kingsley will be the superior Einstein.

/walter matthau?

nevesis back up that statement, where do you find that he is noted as one of the most intelligent actors on Hollywood, not that that's saying much.

Wow. It's the "Let's Bash Hollywood" thread.
Weeeee.

Tom Cruise is looking for something to do. Maybe you would prefer he play Einstein.

With the help of IMDB here are the films I have seen and are what I consider to be the reason I think he is an accomplished actor. I'm interested in seeing "All the King's Men", but Einstein? We'll see. His good work far outnumber his misses.

nevesis: Penn has a reputation as one of the most intelligent actors in Hollywood

That's about as impressive as being the tallest actor in Munchkinland on the Wizard of Oz set. Don't take a lot of brains to stand out in a crowd of intellectual midgets.

artman: # Dead Man Walking (1995) .... Matthew Poncelet

They say a good conservative is someone who can watch that movie and still want Poncelet to die at the end.

Guilty!

Sean Penn says stupid shiat in public on occasion, and he is funny-looking, but he's one of the best actors of his generation. Period.
