Remember when he created one of the largest media companies in the world? That was stupid.

And when he bought up a ton of Montana making him the largest landholder in the U.S.? Stupid.

How about when he donated half his fortune to the U.N.? Stupid.

Stupid stupid head, marrying a famous movie star, dummy-dumb.

Where does he get off telling George Bush how to run a business and live one's life?!?! Stupid.

nickyhopkins: Remember when he created one of the largest media companies in the world? That was stupid.

Yeah, but then he merged it with AOL and then watched the stock plummet, dragging his fortune along with it, to the point where he can't afford to buy the Braves back from those cheapskates at AOL/Time Warner. That was, well, stupid. And he showed up to the meeting to close the deal wearing a Confederate General's uniform. Anyone who has lived in Atlanta long enough knows Ted's got a few screws loose.

"Shouldn't Turner be one of your saints?"

"WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ted Turner, the media mogul who has a way of putting his foot in his mouth when he shoots from the hip, is at it again. Turner recently apologized for offending Catholics by referring to them as "just Jesus freaks."

Turner, who founded the Cable News Network, made the "Jesus freak" remark at a retirement party for CNN anchor Bernard Shaw at the network's Washington, D.C. bureau. The party was held on Ash Wednesday, and Turner noticed that some employees had a smudge-from Lenten ashes-on their foreheads.

"I was looking at this woman and I was trying to figure out what was on her forehead," Turner was reported to have said. "At first I thought you were in the [Seattle] earthquake. I realized you're just Jesus freaks." Turner added, "You ought to be working for Fox"-a reference to a more conservative news network which competes with CNN.

It's not Turner's first anti-Christian remark. A decade ago he caused a stir when he dismissed Christianity as a religion "for losers." In 1998 he insulted Pope John Paul II. He later apologized for both remarks. Ironically, just last August Turner criticized Christianity for being "very intolerant" while speaking at the Millennium World Peace Summit at the United Nations.

Turner recently separated from his third wife, Jane Fonda, who embraced Christianity shortly before their breakup."

No.

He's a douche.

Actually, I'd say that's a pretty classless move, regardless of your beliefs. But, then again, bigotry is still alive an well, apparently.

nickyhopkins,

How about when he donated half his fortune to the U.N.? Stupid.

Given the abysmal results that the UN has yielded, yes. That's probably one of the most if not the most stupid investments he's ever made.

2006-09-20 5:04:20 PM
I don't know whats worse, Kanyon, Ted Turner donating half of his fortune to the UN, expecting his money to actually go for some good use, or

George Soros, spending $23,450,000 to defeat Bush, and
help the democrats "take back control" of the US in 2004.

/talk about a crappy ROI. At least Bill and Melinda Gates get a much better return on thier charity, dollar to lives benefited. At least Ted will have his bison.

ha! i think he's funny. intolerant, but funny. it sounds like he sticks to his convictions too, the insinuation in the article is that he divorced Jane when she became a christian.

it's always funny to me that the people who are least tolerant and most bigoted are the first to call someone a bigot when he disagrees with their intolerance.

/don't know what your religious beliefs are, talking about the "some people" who do what I'm saying they do.

timmy_the_tooth: it's always funny to me that the people who are least tolerant and most bigoted are the first to call someone a bigot when he disagrees with their intolerance.

I'm not sure if you are directing that at me or not, but I can't think of too many occasions where I have derided anyone's religious beliefs. Except maybe Scientology. And FSM, which isn't so much as a religion as a dead horse that desperately needs respite from the constant beating. Other than that, though, I consider people's religious faith (or lack thereof) a personal matter.

2006-09-20 5:34:35 PM
Hold up there timmy_the_tooth, God didn't create divorce, lawyers did, God invented Stoning, a much more satisfying ending to a bad situation, and you get to keep your stuff.

2006-09-20 5:42:10 PM
I don't know if we can count on divorce as a solution to troubled marriages for much longer. After all, the "sanctity of marriage" folks (who never practice hypocrisy) must surely be opposed to it.

Wrong. The people who "invented stoning" are also credited with "inventing the zero."

HAL_lives: God didn't create divorce, lawyers did,

god created man in his own image and man created lawyers therefore god is a lawyer, which is why you can't argue his rules with him.

the_gospel_of_thomas: Wrong. The people who "invented stoning" are also credited with "inventing the zero."

uhhh, old testament has stoning. old testament predates Islam. ergo, jews invented stoning.

2006-09-20 5:57:20 PM
You believe in the bible? I think not. Maybe the dinosaurs "invented stoning" first, but the state of Islam in places like Iran, where that picture was taken, still practices it today.

the_gospel_of_thomas: You believe in the bible? I think not. Maybe the dinosaurs "invented stoning" first, but the state of Islam in places like Iran, where that picture was taken, still practices it today.

i believe the bible is a useful tract on how to best live your life. i also have imperical evidence that my bible exists, therefore, I can, without hesitation, say "I believe in the bible." I am not a christian and do not have faith in the chrisitian god.

I also believe in the Anthropological examination of the Jews and am fairly certain that the old testament rules were around for quite some time before Islam. Further, I believe that the Koran has no provision for stoning. Finally, it is true that Iran and coontil recently) Afghanistan stoned and beheaded their criminals. I believe it is barbaric. I also believe it is only slightly less barbaric to hang a criminal, or inject her with poison, or to strap her into an electric chair and electrocute her to death, or gas her. I also believe it is equally, if not more barbaric, to drop heavy munitions on people's residences and kill innocent civilians. Or shoot a whole family and try to make it look like they were planting a bomb. Humans are barbaric, Islam has no special claim to barbarism.

We humans should stop being barbaric.

timmy_the_tooth: 'Islam has no special claim to barbarism.'

..... they've got a really good grasp in it this decade. All you have to do is question their religion, and they'll do their best to kill you for offending them.

/or kill a nun by shooting her in the back, or firebombing a church, or mobing together as they try to vandalize some area and are whipped up into a frenzy that they trample and kill eachother ....

2006-09-20 6:37:09 PM
Damn, (looks up) did I cause all of that?
Look you folks don't knock it till you have tried it, there is something cathartic about zipping fist sized rocks at the women that you thought loved you, especially when you have your family there to help. You know, without family...well it takes too damned long and you could throw out your shoulder.
Moreover, you can bet your last reel of the Black and White version of The Maltese Falcon, that ole Ted feels the same way.

Yes it is too farking bad. He offended a sacred part of my religion. Bet you anything he would never have made fun of a Buddhist or Muslim ritual. Further, wasn't it wild when all the Catholics took to the streets protesting Turner and calling for him to die?

There are apparently numerous references in the Bible to throwing ashes over one's head as a sign of repentance before God. That's where it comes from. I'm sure some Google work would provide you with details if you are so inclined.

To be honest I don't know that it does (this after 12 years of Catholic school). I also don't know that it says not to eat meat on Fridays

What difference does it make? Those people at that party should have sued Ted's ass for religious disrimination.

Walk into an office party as the Chief Executive, step to someone and say: "What are those bumps on your chest? Breasts?!?! Y'all are biatches... you should be over at Lifetime Network..." He see how long it takes for someone to file suit on his inbred ass...
