This Is Bold Text: Doesn't anyone see that his motives are strictly money and political power?

He is a politician. What else would his motives be?

Clearly money. Writing books is how Gates, Rockefeller and the Rothschilds made their fortunes.

Gore's 2008 Plans May Become Clearer After Release of Book

By John F. Harris and Shailagh Murray
Sunday, September 17, 2006; Page A07

Although saying he has no plans to run for president in 2008, former vice president Al Gore has nonetheless left the door ever so slightly ajar. It's a good bet that door will swing open a good bit wider come next May.

That is when Gore is scheduled to publish his next book.

Piercedjai: //Global Warming doesn't exist according to NOAA documents

OK, I'm looking at the NOAA site right now, maybe I'm looking in the wrong pklace, it's the Global Warming section and they seem to think that global warming does exist.
Is the climate warming?

Yes. Global surface temperatures have increased about 0.6°C (plus or minus 0.2°C) since the late-19th century, and about 0.4°F (0.2 to 0.3°C) over the past 25 years (the period with the most credible data). The warming has not been globally uniform. Some areas (including parts of the southeastern U.S.) have, in fact, cooled over the last century. The recent warmth has been greatest over North America and Eurasia between 40 and 70°N. Warming, assisted by the record El Niño of 1997-1998, has continued right up to the present, with 2001 being the second warmest year on record after 1998.
Is that what you were talking about? I hope not because I really don't want global warming to exist. Can you please post a link to those NOAA documents that prove that it doesn't exist?!

2006-09-19 11:23:00 AM
OOOh nicely played. But that doesn't matter; since Al Gore isn't literally superman you should dislike him as an option and keep on waiting for 'someone better'.

Last One Left: 5. an expert in politics or political government.

just being an expert in politics, while not actually engaging in party politics is enough to brand one a politician? that's a pretty loose definition, and NOT the one most commonly used by people. most would not consider someone who merely posesses knowledge to be associated with those who are actively engaged in such activity.

doublesecretprobation: just being an expert in politics, while not actually engaging in party politics is enough to brand one a politician?

I do use the word 'politician' to refer to people who engage in politics* but who aren't in office. I certainly didn't mean that he was part of the government.

* use of intrigue or strategy in obtaining any position of power or control, as in business, university, etc.

Name me one person who is NOT motived by money. Money is how we make transactions, people desire to change things and do this through transactions, thus they need money. Money, is not Evil, what you do with it may or may not be. I, however, believe he is motived on a higher level by things other than money.

Hey, it's cool with me if you don't mind baking to death while my desert becomes a lush paradise. (Actually it is just getting hotter and drier here)

Most experts call it Global Climate Change because there are small areas that are getting cooler, while the vast majority of areas are warming up...to be technically correct, but I never pegged you as a nitpicker DIA.

It's also called climate change because it encompasses much more than temperature changes, e.g. growing storm intensities, changes in precipitation patterns, plant and animal migrations, coral reef bleaching, disease translocation, etc.

Who said it was a doomsday...we just need to be a little more conscious of what we're doing and we'll be fine, but hey if you want to ignore the rapids in the river and sit there like Candide while we row to shore and port or boats past them, be my guest.

And Hell, Chuck Hagee was on NPR 'Fresh Air' Yesterday, He says the Rapture is going to happen ANY MINUTE, and ALL Muslims are Potential Suicide Bombers (just like all men are Rapists!), and he and his Lobbying Firm are Definitely Republicans so don't tell me EVERYONE has to have their GODDAMN Armageddon. I grew with that BULL SHIAT (Hardcore Pentecostal Family) and Only Fools and Idiots buy into that Crap.

It's really quite remarkable that someone can point to a link on NOAA's website stating clear as day that, yes, the earth's climate is warming, quote it, and then attempt to use that as proof it isn't.

I'm not sure what has to happen to someone in order to become so willfully blind, but I'm betting it's not pretty.

But whatever. The folks at NOAA are all ivory tower liberals who think they're better than you.

I, and the vast majority of people who Look at Global Warming/Global Climate Change do not SEE it as an Armegeddon, we see it as a potential issue to deal with, just like we see Tornado Alley, the California Earthquakes, the Tsunami of the PacRim and other such Natural Problems. We see all of it as something that mankind needs to address and fix, not some end of the world.

But if we dealt with the Tsunami, the Tornados or the Earthquakes in the same way we're dealing with GW/GCC we'd be still building with Old Building Code in the Midwest, Building without Earthquake Shock Absorbers in Buildings in Cali., or without warning systems in the Pacific.

And look, I'm not a "true believer" when it comes to global warming. But I find it hilarious that anyone outside of the climatology community can be so absolutely sure they have all the answers.

Here's a little analogy on localized cooling:

A man has a 104 degree fever and the doctor tells him that he is in danger because of his temperature. In response, the man complains that he doesn't have a fever because his feet are freezing.

Yeah, the logic is that stupid.

Bad analogy. Earthquake proof buildings don't stop earthquakes; they simply protect the building from its effects.

A better analogy, IMHO, would be to point out that a lot of regulation and work in reducing emissions has been done in the last 20 years. I think the environment will take care of itself just fine; our job is to avoid polluting things and quit pretending we are wise or powerful enough to manipulate the whole planet in some way.

Epistimologists have determined for sure that it is IMPOSSIBLE to know anything Completely. In fact, the best we can do is only know something with a 99 percent certainty. (Which is definitely great odds, but there's always that chance he WAS just getting Bike Water)

Not knowing everything for sure shouldn't paralyze you into inaction. It's what the Ent's represented in the Lord of the Rings, however, there is something to be said about being too hasty, but outright denying something is a completely different animal.

Is this the new GOP tactic? To deflect attention away from the fact that Bush can't do anything right by making fun of Democrats for not having miraculous powers that they never claimed to have? That's a biatch move.

Actually, I don't think the tactic is rather new, it has been around for a long time. The GOP has however gotten very good at it recently. Don't forget however, the Dems can and will do the same thing. It's a political strategy that is as old as politics.

st_gulik: Epistimologists have determined for sure that it is IMPOSSIBLE to know anything Completely. In fact, the best we can do is only know something with a 99 percent certainty.

Risk = Hazard + Probability

It's all about risk management.

Terrorism is a drop in the bucket compared to the risks of global climate change.

st_gulik

Not knowing everything for sure shouldn't paralyze you into inaction.

Oh, I'm certainy not saying that. I agree.

I'm just pointing out that global warming is one of a growing number of scientific debates in today's America in which you don't need to know anything about science to have an opinion. Not just an opinion, but an absolute certainty that cannot be swayed by facts. It's all about gut instinct and how it makes you "feel" for a lot of people.

2006-09-19 1:48:40 PM
pontechango: Here's a little analogy on localized cooling:

A man has a 104 degree fever and the doctor tells him that he is in danger because of his temperature. In response, the man complains that he doesn't have a fever because his feet are freezing.

Here's another analogy:

A man goes to the doctor with a rash on his hand.

"Doctor, this rash is spreading all over my body and it's going to kill me! Do something!" he shrieks.

The doctor says, "Calm down a second. Let's just see what's happening in this one trouble spot before we jump to conclusions."

So the patient stomps out, accuses the doctor of being a pharmaceutical corporate shill, and sues the AMA to force them to replace a patient's skin from head to toe if they complain of any localized skin problems.

The AMA protests that there's no evidence acne, psoriasis or eczema requires such drastic treatment, that plenty of fruitful research is already underway if he'd just be a little patient, and besides--no technology for replacing skin exists anyway.

In short, the proposed treatment doesn't exist, is so expensive it would ruin the nation's economy and is likely to make small, local problems much worse.

But the guy with the rash on his hand won't listen or wait for more comprehensive research. Instead, he lobbies Congress to pass draconian regulations that not only won't help, but will thwart the progress that IS being made on other fronts.

So there's a lot of screaming but no action--meanwhile, no one does anything about the rash on the guy's hand.

Actually, properly speaking, that should be

Risk = Probability * Hazard

sigdiamond2000: I'm just pointing out that global warming is one of a growing number of scientific debates in today's America in which you don't need to know anything about science to have an opinion.

The debate is over in the scientific community. It's happening.

2006-09-19 1:51:15 PM
Who are we supposed to believe? The Administration or our own senses?

Global Warming is a FACT. If you cannot accept that, then there is no need to discuss enviromental issues.

The world is NOT better off with Saddam out of power. No good has come from the War On Iraq.

Anyone who supports electronic paperless voting is evil or ignorant.

Intelligent Design is NOT science. True or not, it is NOT science. Evolution IS scientific fact.

Gay marriage in NO WAY affects heterosexual marriage. No matter how hard you believe it.

The funny thing is that when I posted this this morning, it got rejected. Must be the hyperbole in the teaser. I'm not that good at lying.
