I predict he will be the last Beatle to pass away.
2002-07-07 11:02:55 AM
I always loved Ringo the best. He's just awesome.
2002-07-07 11:04:00 AM
Happy Birthday Ringo, you loveable old fart!
2002-07-07 11:05:22 AM
Shatiest Beatle ever.
2002-07-07 11:05:53 AM
Luckiest bastard in the world. Wish I were a no-talent ass clown with the fortune to land a gig with one of the best bands in music history.

2002-07-07 11:14:10 AM
Pete Best said the same thing.
2002-07-07 11:14:34 AM
in related news, friends and family bought ringo drum lessons for his birthday. Ringo commented "well, you know, at age 62 it was about time I picked up an instrument"
2002-07-07 11:35:37 AM
Happy B-Day Ringo!
2002-07-07 11:37:18 AM

Scaryduck- spot on! Uncanny!!
2002-07-07 11:52:36 AM
And doesn't Yasser look *lovely* ?
2002-07-07 12:17:30 PM
Noticed something in the article :

"His health would cause him problems again later, he missed three quarters of the 1964 tour of Scandanavia, Holland, the Far East and Australia, to have his tonsils out."

That brings up a trivia question - who sat in for Ringo while he was sick?
2002-07-07 12:22:53 PM
Ringo Starr is BLACK?!
2002-07-07 12:32:38 PM
Rock on Ringo!
2002-07-07 12:33:49 PM
Apparently, a lot of people besides myself feel that Ringo will be the last surviving Beatle.

The ultimate irony in a story already beyond comprehension.

Oh and check out my Beatles page:

Any self-respecting Beatleologist knows that it was Jimmy Nicol.
Again, www.fab-4.com.
2002-07-07 12:40:44 PM
Isn't Ringo Starr that guy who appeared in the Simpsons?
2002-07-07 12:51:52 PM
Tucci! Cool accordion stuff you play there...Did you ever run across that "Pickin' on the Beatles" compilation album a few years back?A bunch of Beatles songs all done bluegrass style..very good.

Happy Birthday,Richard Starkey!
2002-07-07 12:55:21 PM
And let's not forget Ringo's Most Important Work in this tour de force of emotions and power politics that redefines the Western cultural experience.
2002-07-07 12:56:59 PM
My birthday isn't until the 16th. Why all the hubub?
2002-07-07 01:10:10 PM
"That brings up a trivia question - who sat in for Ringo while he was sick?"

Jimmy Nichol. Arafat was unavailable at the time I believe.
2002-07-07 01:21:10 PM
Happy birthday Ringo! We love you!
2002-07-07 01:21:37 PM
Good question, which overlaps onto both Simpsons and Beatles trivia.
The answer of course is that Paul, George and Ringo all have made appearances on the Simpsons. In the case of Paul, also with his deceased wife Linda.
F.P.J., many thanks for your kind words of encouragement.
2002-07-07 01:24:10 PM
Oh yeah, references. The three that spring to mind first:
Ringo: answered Marge's fan mail from thirty years back and thanks her for the lovely portrait of him she painted;
Paul & Linda: Lisa swears off meat and meets them on Apu's rooftop oasis;
George; rolls by in limo while Homer's barbershop quartet, the B Sharps, is performing on the roof of Moe's Tavern. He is heard to say, "It's been done."
I'm sure John would've done it waaaaaay before any of the others, had he been alive.
2002-07-07 01:26:18 PM
So, does that make Jimmy Nichol another fifth (sixth? seventh?) Beatle? How many fifth Beatles were there?
2002-07-07 01:27:55 PM
[image from beatlesagain.com too old to be available]
Hmmm... better lookin' than Ringo, at least.
2002-07-07 01:30:52 PM
Knowing that one of them has to go next, most people I ask want Ringo to be the next Beatle to die. The only ones who choose Paul (like myself) feel that "Wings" was damning enough to have him be the next.
2002-07-07 01:32:06 PM
Tinrobot: A lot of people say Billy Preston was a 5th Beatle because he did a lot of keyboard work on their later albums.
2002-07-07 01:38:17 PM
What about Stuart Sutcliffe? (bass player for a year)
2002-07-07 01:40:20 PM
If helping out with an album makes somebody part of the band, there are some pretty f'in large bands out there.
2002-07-07 01:40:28 PM
Ringo was the SMARTEST Beatle !
He was the only one never to get busted with drugs & he married the hottest chick(Barbara Bach) out of them all.

Plus he dabbled in acting as the other 3 had.

And he has been clean and sober awhile.

Happy Birthday Ringo Starr !
2002-07-07 01:47:32 PM
So will he be getting legless tonight, or does Paul McCartney already have that covered? ;)
2002-07-07 02:11:53 PM
Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney should get together and form a band called "The shiatty Beatles"

/obligatory Wayne's World Reference
2002-07-07 02:38:34 PM
Nitwit: Arf!

What's got three legs and lives on a farm?
Paul McCartney and Heather Mills.
2002-07-07 03:04:41 PM
HA.. 200 Motels.. I might just have to watch that tonight..
2002-07-07 03:22:45 PM
Don't forget Ringo's role as Mr. Coductor on Shining Time Station.
2002-07-07 03:31:29 PM

Research has come up with this short list of 5th Beatles:

Brian Epstein
George Martin
Billy Preston
Stu Sutcliffe
Eric Clapton (played lead on one song)
Alan White (rumored to have sat in for Ringo)
Yoko (making strange noises for John)
Pete Best
Jimmy Nichol
Linda McCartney's toenail clippings
My Mother
A small rodent named Jesse
2002-07-07 03:40:06 PM
Ringo's lowest point = Appearing in a Pizza Hut commercial with the Monkees.

I really felt ashamed for him.
2002-07-07 03:54:15 PM
Yeah but his best work was narrating for Thomas the tank engine! heh
2002-07-07 04:13:41 PM
happy birthday ringo!
2002-07-07 04:55:59 PM
Two years to go Ringo! Live 'em up!
2002-07-07 08:26:24 PM
Just a goofy thought, but Ringo and Paul should get together with Pete and Roger from the Who...It's so crazy it just might work!
2002-07-07 09:06:34 PM
Is he not dead YET?
2002-07-07 09:41:01 PM
