Cheerist, am I the only person in the world who is glad they don't own one of these farkers?

It's clip-on, that'll be popular in the BDSM community.

No, chalk me one as a "not gotta have it crowd"

That post made my head hurt

So am I missing out on something with this iPod frenzy? I don't have an MP3 player except on my computer and all of my music is stored on a 500GB USB Hard drive. It only takes up about 17GB. But I feel no need to carry it with me.

/I guess it was just a matter of time before I found an electronic fad I wasn't interested in.

2006-09-12 5:16:19 PM
Sweet. I need Pacman and tetris on yet another product!!!

2006-09-12 5:17:01 PM
What is this iPod you speak of? Cell phones with built in music players will be making those obsolete soon enough.

2006-09-12 5:17:28 PM
I'm waiting for the iPod that can be swallowed and absorbed into your blood stream.

/Though that may be kinda spiffy, if you had one song per device to keep the variety
//may cause heart attacks and cerebral hemorrhaging
///and slashies

Oh, just swallowed it. If I punch myself in the stomach, I can skip to a new song.

Great headline

The world of sheep who love overpriced crap.

This can't be far behind

And here I thought it was a joke. Might actually become reality.

"and a new 80-gig model for $349, which will hold up to 20,000 songs"

Whole lotta bullshiat right there... Unless you are encoding at 56KBPS, and then it will sound like it is playing on an Ipod.

/Oh.. wait

2006-09-12 5:19:59 PM
"Apple also announced that highlights from NFL regular season games this year will be available for purchase through its iTunes store for $1.99 a game."

WTF? Oh, I remember, Ipods don't have radios. Seriously, who the hell would pay for NFL game highlights?

2006-09-12 5:20:03 PM
How about and Ipod thingy that you surgically put in your brain and you can then download songs straight into you and watch them without needing a screen or TV.

BRILLIANT!
/NOT!

2006-09-12 5:20:10 PM
Wardrobe_Malfunction: some people run with music players.

Cell phones will never make every other device obsolete, plus you can't get a 2 GB cell phone music player for well under $100. (And please don't say it's free - no cell phone is free when you are signing a contract for service.)

I don't own an iPod. Got me a Zen Nano. It's does the job nicely. No desire for anything more expensive atm.

/golf clap for headline

FTFA;
The company also said it will offer a new, thinner iPod Nano that will feature a 24-hour battery life...

I'm calling shenannigans on that

2006-09-12 5:21:15 PM
yeah, i do find that a bit unnecessary. Regular ipods are small enough.

2006-09-12 5:21:52 PM
GimpyNip they have video on them too now...

JoeyJoJo: "I'm calling shenannigans on that"

They can probably do it at first, but the battery life degrades over time. I had to get an external battery pack for my shuffle.

Its nice to have all your music in your car with you. I bought my ipod after all of my CDs got jacked and its quite nice for commuting. I also imagine if you use public transport it would be nice.

Mirrorz

I know that, but even with video how many times are you going to watch highlights of the 09/11/06 Chargers @ Raiders game?

2006-09-12 5:24:53 PM
people need to learn a thing or two about how batteries ACTUALLY work and maybe stop charging their iPods and phones every 4 hours and they wonder why it will only last long enough to run to the charger again,,

I charge my e815 every 7 days and only when it tells me to and the battery life is insane

Yeah, it's kind of like EPA ratings. You could possibly squeeze 24 hours out of it when it's brand new, under the most ideal conditions. Most people are going to get alot less.

2006-09-12 5:25:05 PM
Meh.

They´ve made the nano look like the mini.
The new shuffle needs a cable to connect to the PC.

MEH.

The iPod is the commuter's dream. It's an amazing device if you have the need for it, and they keep improving it on that same basis. But if you're like me and never have any situation where a portable music player is of use, then it's a worthless purchase.

2006-09-12 5:26:44 PM
How come this one brand of mp3 players (with shiyatty sound and features none the less) gets news articles written about them (and greenighted on Fark none the less)? iPods haven't been interresting since 2003.

Personally, I whistle my own music.

Exactly, you can get that kind of longevity out of these cells but only because they don't limit it's range of charge. Then bam it degrades faster, usually within a year you can notice the lower battery lifespan.

Am I the only one that wants to play "Lose the iRod" between the Weekend Update girls?

2006-09-12 5:27:45 PM
I am going to invent a new product called MP3 gum and basically what it is is a piece of gum with one song on it that keeps playing until the flavor runs out. $1.99 a piece. You buy!

Which kinda screws me since my fm modulator is part of the plug in adaptor for the car, meaning that its killing the battery as I use it.

Oh well.

Whole lotta bullshiat right there... Unless you are encoding at 56KBPS, and then it will sound like it is playing on an Ipod.

OK first of all, my iPod is crystal clear with a pair of wrap-around headphones. Secondly, I have encoded my entire collection between 128 and 192Kb/s, and I can fit 20,000 tracks in 80GB.

Yes you are all the very last people to not understand that Apple makes a superior product with a superior interface and an easy purchase/use system for their music. I have several podcasts (including awesome video ones) that I listen to or watch daily. Those are free, friends. I have a 30,000 track library... that is easily managed and sorted with iTunes. I have purchased songs and albums at the iTunes music store; they sync to my wife and I's iPods easily, can be listened to on up to 5 computers, or streamed to any PC in my house. I'm anti-DRM, but let's face it: the DRM is only restrictive if you're trying to pirate it or use it on something that is inferior (non-iPod music player) or can't run iTunes (and Windows or MacOS X install). For 99% of users, this does not matter.

There are a select few of you to whom this does matter. I do not begrudge you your Sansas, your Rios, your Samsungs, etc... but please quite playa-hating when Apple has continuously innovated with their industry-leading product, and won their marketshare by truly having the best product for most people.

Mr Rusty Shackleford

You're soooo anti-establishment. Everyone has something, or thinks something is cool? I will hate it.

2006-09-12 5:28:46 PM
It would be nice it they made a music player that WASNT twice as expensive as it needs to be, also would be nice if they gave the disc one hard drive protection that is at least acceptable.

2006-09-12 5:28:58 PM
My iPod is so small that it does not technically exist in our universe.

Since when did we need to constantly on the phone and listening to our 20,000 songs at all times?

/off my lawn
