I have no faith in this system. I clocked in at 34 kbps on my cable, and I usually test at 350-1000 kbps.

*glances at huge downloads* Well, nevermind...

2002-06-30 09:05:24 PM
Yeah, dionysos, that's screamin'. At home (Roadrunner cable) I get about 1 megabit per second on weekdays. That makes me happy.

Complete crap test.

Because of the way mozilla loads the page, the test reflects negatively on the ACTUAL speed transferring.

The test relies on how fast the frames and stuff can load, because Mozilla takes just milliseconds longer to load, it throws the test off.

In Mozilla I got 260kbit, in IE I got about 650kbit.

This test is utter crap, I'll stick to the java applet speed tests that are a lot more precise.

Works for me. I can still remeber my days of dial-up, and loading a PS page on Fark would take 5-10 minutes or more. With my cable modem it's just seconds. If your still on dial-up, and have the availability of either cable or DSL get it. It'll only cost you a few bucks more in most cases, and the benifits are many.

Well, mine DSL sucks, so I won't even post it. $50 a month for shiat. I got the two Double-click cookies after running test too.
2002-06-30 10:17:51 PM
well i rebooted just to clear the cobwebs and went from 32k to 491k. being on dsl the 32 seemed a bit low. ran cnet and it says 714k. who knows.

Vedman: DSLReporst rock, I used it to bench both my main box and the network speed. They have great tools too, added abount 30+ kbps to my 620kbps base, very useful help/tips overall.

344kpbs for Tampa Bay Roadrunner, shiatty... Forsythe P. Jones, you must love closer to them, eh? I wish I lived in Tampa and not Larghetto. Always have to tell people "it's near Tampa" or "it's close to Tampa" and "no, not Key Largo"... Meh!

101 kbps. Hmm...my roadrunner should be going faster than that. Maybe I'll try it again later without downloading 20 different files off of DC at a total of 150kbps. That might make some difference.

now I'm merely mediocre

That isn't a very accurate way to test the speed at all (the results are NOT accurate).

It is WAY to simple and doesn't take into account the fact that you are loading images from sites that have completely different schemes to cache their content.

Want a more real test, try DSL-Reports.

Way Wrong! My connection is often two to three times faster downloading files from my office or Kazaa.

Neat link! But now I'm depressed.
