(Some Guy)   Boeing scraps plans for inflight Internet access, claiming there was "insufficient demand." Next week they'll see just how much people really need oxygen, seatbelts   (iht.com) divider line

FTA: "The cost to airline passengers is $9.95 an hour and $26.95 for the entire flight."

Gee, I wonder if this had anything to do with it.

I think the airlines are seriously underestimating the power of my porn addiction.

Could you imagine if some of these TF airport threads took place inflight on airplanes instead?

If it was $5 for the flight EVERYBODY with a laptop would do it.

Yeah, but can you imagine the lines as EVERYONE would have to boot up their laptop at the security check-in? I think I can put the computer away for a few hours -- and you should, too.

That actually sounds fairly reasonable to me... Although it would suck if you travel often.

I think this service was only installed on transcontinental routes, in which case I'd gladly pay $27 to prevent hours of boredom.

If it was $5 for the flight EVERYBODY with a laptop would do it.

I think that's right, though. OTOH, this seems like such a no-brainer good thing that the article is probably right about Boeing failing to market it adequately.

probably a good call, as...it's likely just a matter of time before your electronic toys will have to go in the checked luggage.

Hell... pay for it and sublet it to others by sharing the wireless connection.

You might even come out ahead.

On Sunday, I'm again taking the 12 hour flight from Detroit to Tokyo. I'd kill for Internet access on the flight, and the cost would be minimal, since I could expense the cost.

$27 is a drop in the bucket for the business folks traveling trans-pacific.

Sounds like some 60-year-old suits decided they didn't want all those Internet tubes messing up their aircraft.

I think wearing a tie reduces the flow of blood to your brain.

When was the last time you had to turn your laptop on? I fly fairly regularly, and haven't had to boot my laptop in years.

In the last 60 days, I've flown to Boston, NY, San Diego, San Francisco, Colorado Springs, Denver, and Chicago.

I haven't had to boot my laptop once.

I wouldn't mind having the intraweb while some little shiat behind me kicks the hell out of my seat. That would make things really nice actually...

Dammit..

Didn't they used to have phones on planes at one point?

I don't see what the BFD is...

It would be difficult to browse pron sites and fwap with some stranger sitting so close to you in the next seat, wouldn't it? Unless said stranger wanted to offer a little help, of course.

Airplane horror story:

Little shiat behind me kicking the seat, bouncing around, screaming, etc.

I had just done 5 cities in 4 days and was tired.

I looked over the seat at the rug rat and said "Do you know who I am?" He replies, "No. Who are you?"

In my most threatening voice I replied softly, "I am the thing from under your bed."

Flight was quiet the rest of the way home.

/ They used to have smoking and non-smoking sections.
// Why cant we have screaming and non-screaming sections.
/// Thinks rug-rats should be in the checked baggage.
