Pawn shops are the absolute worse place to hold up. Pawn Shop owners almost always carry guns or keep a little something under the counter.

Dumbass tag is definitley warranted on this one.

So if every citizen had a gun, then every household would be the worst place to hold up?
2006-08-15 06:44:05 PM
Besides taking the money, what do you do with stuff you steal from a pawn shop.. take it to another pawn shop?

Holding up the "household"?

"Don't move, foyer, or the wainescotting gets it!"

Pawnshops are probably the worst things to try to stick-up.

Exactly what I was thinking. I wonder if the pawn shop owner called Zed to tell him the fly got away this time.

Funny thing is, the gun was almost certainly not loaded.

Like Agency said, what sort of pawn shop has loaded weapons on display?
2006-08-15 07:15:06 PM

Beats the hell out of me, but hey, wanna bet your life on it? Especially if you're retarded enough to rob the clerk with a gun in his hand?
2006-08-15 07:16:56 PM
Do most pawn-shops stock the shelves with loaded guns?!?

/Doesn't seem right to me.

2006-08-15 06:50:48 PM No Such Agency

Funny thing is, the gun was almost certainly not loaded.

My first thought. If you point an empty gun at a thief and get shot, who's the dumbass now??

On the other hand if you're the owner and your life's savings is on the line, might be worth the risk. Plus, I will never allow someone to point a gun at me unchallenged isf I can do anything about it. Happened to me once, never again.

sean.flynn: wanna bet your life on it?

Yes, because zero is the answer. Zero guns on display are loaded.

OK actually I have no idea. That's the sort of thing you'd want to research before hand. Plus the fact that the store has one loaded gun for sure in it and you don't know which is which doesn't help. If the robbers were serious about shooting though they probably could have done it before the owner raised his gun.
2006-08-15 07:41:11 PM
It takes some serious cojones to point a gun at someone, especially if you know yours isn't loaded and don't know if theirs is.

Gun Ownership Rule #1: If you point a gun at someone you better be ready and willing to kill them.

Gun Ownership Rule #1: If you point a gun at someone you better be ready and willing to kill them.

That is Rule #2. Rule #1 is treat every firearm as if it is loaded. Even if it's not, treat it as if it were.

No Such Agency: Funny thing is, the gun was almost certainly not loaded.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Nobody selling guns keeps those guns loaded.

This guy got off lucky - the thugs didn't want to kill him, or he would be dead.

No matter how I look at this, he comes off as an idiot. They already have a gun pointed at him when he points one at them. His isn't loaded, as best I can tell. Even if it was his personal gun, not one of the ones for sale, and it was loaded, he didn't shoot. Which meant that he pointed a gun at them and gave them the option to shoot him or not.

If someone is trying to rob you and you are going to pull out a gun, you need it to be a loaded gun, and you need to shoot.

redalert666: Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener wins

Heh, thanks!

It's instinct - any time I see "pawn shop" in the headline, I have to contribute at least one instance of "PAWN3D!"

Force of habit, aye.
2006-08-15 08:18:25 PM
Most likely the thiefs did not have a loaded gun - most state's gun law distinguish between loaded and not loaded - and their bluff got called!!

2006-08-15 09:20:44 PM
I'd use a sword.
2006-08-15 09:24:58 PM
It said he keeps a loaded gun under the counter. It said he was filling his gun case display. I didn't jump to the conclusion that he pointed an unloaded gun at the criminals.

I do think it was nice of him not to blow their fecking heads off. I would have kept shooting until all 16 bullets in my gun were used up and if they were still standing use the extra clip on my holster for another 15.

ElRick WTF are you talking about, oh sorry your honor my gun was not loaded so I shouldn't have to do those seven years. Most states laws do not distinguish between robbing a store with a loaded gun and robbing one with an unloaded gun. Heck robbing one in Florida and even saying you have a gun is just as good. Also do you think that most people robbing pawn shops are well schooled in thier states Statutes?

Within two minutes, I'd be calling the police, asking them to send CSI, the coroner, and three body bags.

feckingmorons: use the extra clip on my holster

What, do you carry a Garand? Or do you mean a magazine?

Har Har, ye have been judged by the internets, may God have mercy on your soul.
2006-08-15 11:59:07 PM

IIRC, clips are externally attached ammunition sources, while magazines are held within the weapon. The M1 Garand stores its ammunition internally. Therefore, would not the M1 Garand use a magazine?

/Had the M1 thumb to prove it.
//Hurt like a b*tch for several minutes. Ached for an hour.
2006-08-16 12:39:15 AM
Magazine = feeding device.
Clip = holds rounds to feed into a magazine.
2006-08-16 01:28:00 AM

I stand corrected. Thank you.
2006-08-16 09:02:34 AM
i believe the most technically correct thing to say would be that the garand has an internal magazine, but you load it with ammunition already in a clip.

You can also get a clip for rifles like the AK, and a device which lets you then pop those in to the magazine.. and then you pop the magazine in to the rifle.

I was in a pawn shop yesterday. The clerk had a gun strapped to his leg, and I'd bet plenty that it was loaded.

I can't recall ever being in a pawn shop where at least one employee didn't have a gun.
