(National Review)   During the height of the violent Hatfield/McCoy feud, who would have thought of sending in a police force composed solely of members and friends of both families? Yet that's basically what may be about to happen in Lebanon   (article.nationalreview.com) divider line

Its not just current policies or leadership that they are against. Conservative hate the very concept of any authoritative international body that the US doesn't have complete and absolute control over. They have been against the concept of the UN since the end of World War One.

There is no need to lie about Anon or this peace keeping force. Just speak your damn minds.

The Rev. Keith Roderick is secretary general of the Coalition for the Defense of Human Rights and Washington Representative for Christian Solidarity International.

That explains it: the author is another one of the Jesus Returns type.

Works for me, but I'm surprised that Lebanon went for it. Now when thy fail to contain Hezbollah, Israel will be able to honestly blame the Lebanese government and retaliate against the Lebanese leadership.

No. Conservatives hate the idea of giving up our national sovereignty to a consortium of nations that includes many who want to destroy us or have financial reasons to harm us.

When that happens, it will be a precursor to a strike on Iranian nuclear facilities, either supported or led by the US.

Then why don't we hear more from conservatives about the WTO?

Everyone knows that this resolution is not going to do anything, but Kofi was harping on it 'cause he's got checks to cash from the Oil For Food Program, and there just isn't enough time in a day for both brokering peace in the Middle East and getting to the goddamn bank on time.

Depends on which conservatives you talk to. The paleo-cons (Pat Buchanan, Robert Novak, etc.) are very much against the WTO. Many were even against the Cold War, but they were really marginalized during the 1950s and 1960s.

I'm a social democrat who favors nationalized healthcare (among other things) and I have a problem with letting groups like the UN dictate American policy. I'd sooner see us join the European Union than remain part of the United Nations, as at least the other EU members are playing from the same rule book as we are.

Today, the Lebanese army is dominated by shiites, making up approximately 35 percent of the force. Christians, who formed the core of the Lebanese army during the 1980s, now comprise about 30 percent of the force. However, the commanding officers remain Christian. Sunni Muslims and Druze account for about 30 percent.

That's an odd use of "domination" going on there. Christians run the army and there's only a 5% difference between them and the shiites.

I'm not sure why the UN isn't stepping in to patrol the border.

Send the National Review staff over as peacekeepers. Problem solved.
