Speaking of McCarthyism:

You haven't even begun to see the backlash that almost 20 years of liberal bashing has created. Limbaugh been on the radio since the 80's, followed by all the other talking heads...and then there's cable news. Non-stop vitriol against a right-wing version of what a liberal is, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Most of the anti-liberal people on this site are just semi-animated zombies that have been brainwashed by the non-stop bombardment of liberal bashing. They haven't given a whole lot of thought to the crap that they are carrying around with them and spewing out every chance they get: What Coulter thinks a Liberal is. What Sean Hannity thinks a liberal is. Lie after lie, stereotype after stereotype, every goddamn second of every day.

Add to that a couple of elections that make third world counties laugh. Add to that 6 years of neocon insanity.

I think I can understand the hatred towards a Republican-pandering, bought-and-paid-for suckfest like Joe Lieberman.

2006-08-08 7:55:54 AM
I might have a little more respect for the article if it wasn't being written by an admitted friend of Lieberman, who, really, brought everything he's currently going through on himself. And, while his spineless Iraq policy is causing some of his grief, the bigger problem for him is that many of the voters in his state see him (rightly) as a national figure far more focused on building national credentials than serving their local needs.

2006-08-08 8:29:51 AM
WTF? He cites the "Huffington Post" as an example. I'm pretty sure that whatever goes on there makes WND look like Mensa.

I have no pity for Lieberman. He supported, and still supports, a war that was already unpopular with his constituents and now he's crying because they'd like someone else to do his job?

FTA:

Mr. Lamont and all other liberal Democrats should remember the McCarthy era and not fall into the trap of the hypocrisy of the double standard--that it's not OK when Ann Coulter dispenses her venomous hatred, but it is OK when our side's versions of Ann Coulter do.

Right wing's Anne Coulter:

[image from img218.imageshack.us too old to be available]

Left wing's Anne Coulter:
ctkeith, rim, tomjones, greenskeeper, gerrylong.

Yup. Some real equivalency there, Mr. Davis.

nah, it is more of an oligarchy...

2006-08-08 9:07:47 AM
This is Joe's real problem--not any make-believe liberal McCarthyism:

Joe Lieberman is a victim of the anti-incumbent, anti-Republican times in which we live. He is not a victim of the peace movement. He is not a victim of the Iraq war. He is part or the larger passion play that is taking place across the country against the incumbent party in power. Republicans control the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the federal government. Americans believe our country is heading in the wrong direction and we, rightfully, are finally holding those running the country accountable, in addition to those who enable and embrace them.

2006-08-08 9:15:45 AM
Wow. The WSJ is really stretching here. I mean, I know it's the completely unhinged opinion page, but kee-ripes.

How much creedence should we give an admitted Lieberman campaigner whose only attributed quotes are from random posters on a blog site?

None. Sorry.

Because there's NO liberal hatred on any rightie blogs or boards, right? It's ALL left-wing hatred.

Puppeteer_23: How much creedence

Heh... just realized I threw that extra "E" in there. Listened to too much CCR in my day.

What's going on is that Democrats and their pollsters have sent the message that their side is on the ascendency, that the tide has turned irreversibly against Bush. They now feel free to express their pent up rage, which has been simmering since 2000. The Lamont-Lieberman race is an interesting metric of their sentiments, especially against the backdrop of the War on Hizbollah.

The problem is that Dems have been in this very same position before, with a nominal advantage and a hefty critique to dispatch at all Republicans and sympathizers. And yet history shows that they cannot be counted on to hold onto their leads. They botch it at the last minute by failing to inspire confidence in their leadership abilities - usually with a clumsy phrase or milquetoast selection of issues.

I predict that Lamont, if he wins today, ends up representing the high water mark of Democrat revolutionism. He's a disappointment - not even Howard Dean's level of charisma - and he won't add sway to the anti-war or even anti-incumbent tone. Contra Dem logic, power remains in Republican hands. And Dems just get angrier and louder, ensuring their defeat in 2008.

Won't somebody pleeeeease think of the bloggers?

Because there's NO liberal hatred on any rightie blogs or boards, right? It's ALL left-wing hatred.

The whole point of the article was that there was hatred in the left too, as in also.

From the article: He told me that within a day of a Lamont event--where he asked the candidate some critical questions--some of his clients were blitzed with emails attacking him and threatening boycotts of their products if they did not drop him as their attorney. He has actually decided not to return to Connecticut for the primary today; he is fearful for his physical safety.

So, it wasn't just a couple of annoying e-mails to this guy, but someone took the time to find out who his clients were and harrass them as well.

But, froth away Puppeteer_23.

Skleenar

I'd imagine the Left's Coulter would be like ANSWER or MoveOn. The Left is all about the collective approach, the Right is about vigorous individualism. There's always Ramsey Clark.

Hmmm...maybe not Ramsey Clark, he doesn't publish annoying books every ten minutes. Perhaps Al "The Way, The Truth and The Light" Franken. He's shrill and weasley enough to be a Coulter.

I'll be curious to hear if there are any convictions on that obvious prosecutable harassment. Because my first reaction to e-mails threatening a boycott would be to fear for MY safety, let me tell you.

The whole piece is a blatant campaign-troll. I don't really need to say much more than that.

I switch between Franken and the several right-wing radio shows on my way home in traffic (the coveted 'drive-time' demographic). And I assure you that your charicterization of Franken is completely off base.

Question - How much time did the author spend in jail like the liberals that McCarthy went after.

Answer - NONE

But he's still whining

Wake me up when the evil liberals start defending torture and build mysterious detention centers in the desert.

FTA:

Here are just a few examples (there are many, many more anyone with a search engine can find) of the type of thing the liberal blog sites have been posting about Joe Lieberman:

If there are so many, why did you have to quote a comment by a commentor that was Troll-rated by Kos, and then a sarcastic reply to that same commentor?

Yet nearly every Jew in the NorthEast will put their blinders on and vote Democratic for every position.
The most vile anti-Jewish, anti-Israel rhetoric is coming from the left. It amazes me how many people vote for people that hate them for who they are.

2006-08-08 10:56:09 AM
He's right - Joe Liebermann is entitled to a Senate seat for as long as he wants it. If the people of Connecticut have the power to choose who they want representing them in Washington, then it all falls apart.

Also, holding elections cost money, people - these hypocrite liberals whine about schools and health care, but then force the state to dump taxpayer dollars into meaningless vestiges of a dead form of government. You know how much we could save if we got rid of election boards, voting machines, registration records, state employees in charge of oversight, etc.?

2006-08-08 10:58:50 AM
The far right does not have a monopoly on bigotry and hatred and sanctimony.

WAY too many Libs STILL believe that can not possibly be true.
And that blinds everything they think after that.

2006-08-08 10:58:54 AM
Did the author of TFA just discover teh intrawebs? Had he posted something that Kos, Huffington, MoveOn, etc had posted on their site as "approved" commentary for the site, then he might have something there. Just posting comments that appear in threads about content on those sites, by such illistrious commentarians as rim, ctkeith, tomjones, gerrylong, and greenskeeper seems just a wee bit disingenuous.

Does this mean I can write an op-ed about how conservatives are becoming more and more divorced from reality, and cite TGOT, SigDiamond as evidence?

2006-08-08 10:59:05 AM
This isn't "NEWS", it's an M.O. and that is why its on FARK,
why its in the WSJ should be obvious.

Yeah yeah, there are assholes on both sides, yada yada.

While i'll definitely admit that there are sanctimonious assholes on both sides, you aren't seriously contending that there isn't a pretty hefty advantage for the right when it comes to bigotry and hatred?

The most vile anti-Jewish, anti-Israel rhetoric is coming from the left.

These are not the same thing, no matter how many times you say it.

And the most anti-jewish thing I can think of is that they all have to die so the savior can return.

Lanny Davis made a career out of lying for Bill and Hillary Clinton. Now he campaigns for the Liar Liberman. Some doofuses learn nothing. The very reason that the opponents of Liberman are using the scorched earth policy against him is because they learned from Bill Clinton that it works. Step 1.) Demonize your enemy 2.) Claim that your opponent is the worst person on earth or is at best is deperatly out of touch. 3.) Claim that you understand the voter's plights 4.) profit by getting elected and then lining your pockets.
Lanny Davis you dolt -- you taught the opponents of Liberman EVERYTHING!

I love this: Author finds 5-6 comments he does not like on a couple of liberal blogs, gets some negative feedback from his appearance on a Sunday talk show, rehashes a story about some paranoid friend of his, and all this gets his panties in a twist? Next, will he go to Yahoo message boards and write a column about how Yahoo is to blame for the general decline in civility and grammar?
