It has nothing to do witht he liberal or right wing media. It has to do with a nice juicy scandal. Americans just love to watch their heroes get knocked off a pedestal.

If Ariana Huffington was hit with a DUI, it'd never leave the Fox News. Ever.

The liberal media again, eh? Should I be alarmed? Did they manage to raise an army yet?

2006-08-02 10:36:50 AM
Every time someone uses the phrase "Liberal Media" outside of a joke, God gives their ancestors a titty-twister.

Please, think of your ancestors' sugar tits.

Well, I've always been more of a Fender guy anyway.

Waitaminute. What is smitty implying that liberals supposedly have against Mel Gibson? I don't even know anything about him politically.

2006-08-02 10:40:40 AM
I love how Mel Gibson has suddenly become a martyr for the religious right.

Remember, the more Jews you chase off to the Holy Land with your bigotry, the quicker the Rapture will arrive!

Just like we have to constantly wade through those Kennedy drinking allegations all the time on Fox News before we get to the war in the Middle East. Oh, we don't? I guess your bias is just showing then...like a certain Ms. Huff-ing-ton.

However, it is curious how Fark can't let this story go. How many greenlights on Mel have there been? More than Ariana's shoe collection, I'd guess.

Can you please cite some evidence of this allegation? Did Pat Robertson say something about this?

Why worry about someone with no sense and more money than God? There are more than enough needy out there dying for your compassion.

Cry me a frkking river.

Look up "current event" in the dictionary.

Oh, sorry. *zip*

My bias is showing? Of course I have a bias. We all have a bias. We're all humans with perceptions. Surely you can condemn me for something far far worse.

Sussman Where do you keep you bias that you can just zip it up? I wear mine on my sleeve.

Arianna is a somewhere between political commentator and Hollywood reporter. She is also a compulsive writer and pretty much grabs a story and writes about it until her typing fingers are numb, then writes a few more times. This is no different. Most others can stop after one, or two articles. Not her. And Not Fark.

And Low - there was a plague of many stories about Mel Gibson. Over, and over, and over, and over, again, and again, and again, and again, and again,

And the liberals did rejoice snd they sky turned back with the constant bombardment of every asinine news story imaginable, and the people did wail, and there was a great gnashing to teeth as old scores were brought back to the surface, and old wounds were opened anew ...

/oops ( backto work)

2006-08-02 11:00:42 AM
One of the most famous and popular celebrities acted very badly and people are surprised that the media wants to cover this? How is this any different from the attention and faux outrage the media vomited on Britney Spears during her "bad mom" phase?

Ohhhh, now you're embarrassed about wasting your money on The Passion. Mel Gibson is laughing at you all the way to the bank.

/and to the liqour store.

And one of her favorite subjects is blasting Fox News, so what makes you think that something like a DUI or even a speeding ticket wouldn't become the Fox News story of the week?

Notice I didn't say a goddamn thing about my thoughts on Fox News. I don't watch it.

2006-08-02 11:02:52 AM
Evidence? Too lazy to google, but this thread and others, as well as comments heard on radio about how "liberals" get away with anti-semetic comments all the time but poor Mel gets jumped on by the "liberal media" over one teensy-weensy incident.

So, you wouldn't know what their news coverage is like, would you?

I mean, Jesus Christ, you would have thought that he crashed his car in the ocean, and left his young female companion in the car to drown to death as he staggered home, not to let the cops know until next morning as his handlers 'took care of everything,' ... or was a former KKK grand something or other who never apologized for his previous behavior and was the longest serving senator in the history of the government or something, with all this media attention he's getting ....

No I'm not. Why should I be???

The film has zero to do with what Mel has done years after the fact.

Mel's no Bush-lover. So this really doesn't make any sense.

TGoT, he's a hollywood star. Britney/Tom Cruise/Lindsay can't pick their noses without it being reported all over the place.

Why would you compare him to politicians?

2006-08-02 11:13:45 AM
Anyone have a link to the "Britney with Cletus Jr on lap" threads?

Our sick fascination with celebrity combined with events in the middle East, shooting at Jewish cmmty center in Seattle, Mel's past history with Passion of the Jews and his holocaust-denying dad MAKE THIS NEWSWORTHY! Get used to it, sugar tits.

2006-08-02 11:15:54 AM
Pelagius Yes, its newsworthy. Even with your bias of claiming he represents the Religious Right, its newsworthy. But, this is one reporter, supposedly a political reporter, who has written on this story 3 times in the 5 days since it broke. Even O'Reilly takes a break and harasses a different subject every once in a while.

2006-08-02 11:18:38 AM
Not a reporter - she's a columnist. There's a difference. Columnists can spew whatever BS they like, short of libel, much like TFers.

2006-08-02 11:22:01 AM
Funnah video, mediaho, - so the dude on the right had to think for 1.68 seconds, and then then replayed it with a slo-mo for ADDED DRAMATIC EFFECT!(eleventy)! ... but - mediaho, what was his response???

That video seems to end before he can answer her question.

2006-08-02 11:23:25 AM
Huffington is just trying to get people to read her articles. It is obvious that people are at least interested in this or else there would not be 40 post before it hits the front page. If no one cared no one would have clicked the link. She is just doing her job.

The whole idea of media bias is crap anyway. The only opinion they care about is Neilson's. If it sells papers or attracts viewers they run with it. Maybe red staters don't read the paper or watch the 6:00 national news. Trust me if ABC thought it would lead to higher ratings they would replace Charlie Gibson with Sean Hannity in a split second.

2006-08-02 11:23:27 AM
Did you hear than President Clinton had oral sex!?

Some conservative talk show host mentioned it yesterday.

Couldn't find one w/o commentary. IIRC, they went to commercial. Not that you really care.

I'd like to see that for myself.

"Not that you really care."

Oh, but I do ... I do.

Well, I found this on my own;

Last story on the page

MOVIEGOERS FAVOR CONSERVATIVE, MORAL VALUES -Dr. Ted Baehr, Movieguide Five-Year Study Shows April 12, 2004
( No mention of "Passion of the Christ" )

So it looks like some dubmass intern or porducer at FOX news typed in "Passion of the Christ" when they were supposed to list "The PAtriot" ....

But hey - this MUST be some conspiracy for FOX NEWS to indoctrinate their viewers to *GASP* christianity!! and make people like mediaho so angry, that he's got this and hunderds of other examples of FOX NEWS brainwashing bookmarked and ready to go!

This is un-farking-believable. I have to ask the submitter and those supporting this headline: Are you really that stupid? Really? Or are you just playing dumb? I hate to go ad hominem, but Jesus Christ, have you people been asleep your entire lives?

I posted this in another thread but it applies here as well:

There seems to be this almost biological necessity for True Believers to invent this seperate, alternate universe where accepted media rules and trends don't apply. The best example of this in recent times is the Dick Cheney shotgun incident.

You had Right Wing pundits - people with decades of journalism experience - expressing shock and outrage that the Vice President of the United States shooting someone in the farking face with a shotgun garnered national media attention. They acted as if it was absolutely unheard of for something like this to happen.

Here's the deal: just because something happens that you might deem hurtful to your "cause", that doesn't mean it isn't newsworthy.

God, that's absolutely pathetic, T_G_O_T.

I'm placing you firmly in the True Believer/playing dumb camp.

Their criteria was "Movies that support capitalist ideals, traditional Judeo-Christian values, and patriotism." Fox news went with "Patriotic Movies."

Those are the facts. Spin however you'd like. You are exhausting like a child with ADHD.
