(Yahoo)   People actually living in Lebanon are quite amused at the New York Times' portrayals of the area, wonder if there's another Lebanon on whatever planet NYT lives on   (news.yahoo.com) divider line

"Blockades" - that doesn't sound too bad. It certainly doesn't sound like what Israel was doing to Lebanon. Maybe "Whups On" wouldn't fit? "Cold Cocks"? "Straight Up Punishes"?

This guy says he's actually IN Lebanon? And he doesn't understand the definition of "blockade", or know that Israel did in fact blockade the ports of Lebanon to keep supplies from getting in that way?

Or perhaps he just wants to jump on the recent "I'm hating the NYT" bandwagon.

"Or perhaps he just wants to jump on the recent "I'm hating the NYT" bandwagon."

Well, yeah!

The New York Times is NEVER WRONG about anything, and if some dude who is actually in Lebanon disagrees with what the people in the New York Times says about Lebanon ... then thats the only plausable explanation.

You is smart.

Can someone sum it up for me? I tire of hearing of Lebanon and that article is just too farking long for my "giving a shiat about Lebanon" threshold.

It sounds to me as though the reporting isn't being criticized as much as the choice of headlines.

PastorofMuppets: And he doesn't understand the definition of "blockade", or know that Israel did in fact blockade the ports of Lebanon to keep supplies from getting in that way?

Re-read the text. He does understand the definition. He's saying that the "blockade" is small potatoes compared to what's really happening and the the NYT journalists are not telling the whole story.

Sounds to me like he'll whine unless the NYT headline states "Evil Zionist Nazi Joooz Invade Soveriegn Nation, Deliberately Kill All Civilians in Bloodthirsty Massacre".

...and even then, he'll complain about his belief of what's in the editors' minds.

Our right-wing totalitarian regime?

Wait, first the right wing complains the NYT hates Israel and are trying to drum up sympathy for Lebanon. Now we have the Lebanese saying the Times is a pro-Israel rag.

Teh head asplode!

for what it's worth, TFA only biatches about the headlines, not the articles themselves.

The "liberal" Jewish Sulzberger family owns the NYT. It tends to favor Jewish/Israeli interests.

From an obituary of former Editor in Chief Abe Rosenthal:

"In his book The Other Side of the Coin, noted anti-Zionist author Alfred M. Lilienthal recalled that, in August 1982, during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, Friedman wrote a dispatch from Beirut reporting Israel's "indiscriminate" bombing of Beirut. Friedman's office telex machine soon produced a message from New York that Times editors had deleted the word "indiscriminate" as editorializing-although they praised Friedman for "good work under dangerous conditions." ...In a rage, Rosenthal ordered Friedman to return to New York immediately. Friedman expected to be fired. By the time he arrived for his lunch appointment, however, Rosenthal came in "looking unhappy, glowered at Friedman and then said: 'You are receiving a $5,000 raise.' After Friedman described what had actually been taking place in Beirut, Rosenthal seemed relaxed and friendly. However, he warned, if you ever pull a stunt like that again, you are fired!"

Remember Judith Miller? NYT Terrorism expert? She printed all the bogus WMD carp about Iraq. The president quoted her in speeches. She was one of the ones that helped trick us into a war there with one of Israel's enemies. Jason Blair was fired for much less than what she did, yet she retained her job.

Don't expect the full story from the New York Times.

The only blockade to get into Lebanon is the sweet smell of peanut candy from the Stuckey's at the Zionsville exit.

/ oh wait not Lebanon, IN

You is smart.

I is so smart I not only read the NYT but I also watch that silly colorbox in the living room with the funny people who talk to me and they told me a couple of weeks ago that Israel had blockaded the Lebanese ports. But carry on; I'm sure if the NYT reported on it EVERYone was wrong about it.

I like how people take one article and claim the NYTimes isnt presenting the whole story.

He must have magically missed the one that starts:
TIBNINE, Lebanon, July 25 - In a region gnawed by war and steeped in tragedy, this town is purgatory.

The reason I like the times is it has variety because it's so big. No article is unbiased, and the times makes up for it by publishing multiple articles from multiple viewpoints.
