Submitter is a img.fark.net. This is one time I can proudly say I agree with the senior senator from my home state. The majority of the US, as well as the majority of Congress, were in favor of this bill for good reason.

About all Bush has done by vetoing this bill, aside from what Senator Kennedy pointed out, is to encourage even more high tech industry to move outside of the United States. This country should be encouraging high-tech research on all fronts, not forcing cutting-edge medical research out over personal beliefs and against the will of the people. The "human life" Bush claims to be protecting will most likely end up simply getting destroyed rather than being put to good use attempting to help millions of people around the world.

2006-07-21 5:23:02 PM
So, submitter, because of that horrible fark-up, he's not supposed to have an opinion on this? What's your point?

2006-07-21 5:24:39 PM
iphtashufitz: Submitter is a img.fark.net.

But he got to trot out a fresh, original Ted Kennedy joke! I wonder if "The Smothers Brothers" are looking for writers?

2006-07-21 5:28:37 PM
Yes, but Ted Kennedy's vile murder pales in comparison to Bill Clinton killing Vince Foster.

2006-07-21 5:30:36 PM
BunkoSquad: But he got to trot out a fresh, original Ted Kennedy joke!

If people didn't keep telling those jokes, people would forget that he let a woman slowly suffocate in indescribable horor while he sobered up for the cops.

people would forget that he let a woman slowly suffocate in indescribable horor while he sobered up for the cops.

Most Dems seem to consider that water on the bridge now.

/although for once I do somewhat agree with the windbag

Whoops. . . that should be water under the bridge. . .

Action Replay Nick : Ted Kennedy's vile murder

"vile murder"? So you're claiming that he intentionally killed Kopechne in some sort of premeditated coverup? Please provide proof.

Why don't you just tell us all how you really feel about Kennedy?

2006-07-21 5:34:35 PM
Every time this incident is brought up, Laura Bush runs down another high school friend.

/and some angel gets its wings

2006-07-21 5:34:42 PM
Let me get this straight: you hate Ted Kennedy because he's a former drunk driver, who you think has an appalling lack of respect for human life?

(a cookie if you can guess where I'm going with this)

Hi, I'm the sarcasm meter repairman. Action Replay Nick was commenting on, mainly inaccurately from my position, the comparability of the lunatics who claimed Clinton had Vince Foster killed and the people who comment frequently on Mary Jo Kopechne's last ride.

BunkoSquad: Let me get this straight: you hate Ted Kennedy because he's a former drunk driver, who you think has an appalling lack of respect for human life?

Uh, no, we hate him because he's a murderer.

BunkoSquad
(a cookie if you can guess where I'm going with this)

Straight into inapt comparison land, it would seem. No, most people who have a problem with Kennedy have that because he let a girl drown while he made sure he was sober enough to avoid DUI charges, and escaped any charge whatsoever solely due to his parentage.

iphtashufitz:

I think you missed ARN's analogy.

Vince Foster being killed by Bill Clinton is just as true as Ted Kennedy murdering Mary Jo.

2006-07-21 5:38:11 PM
Boojum2k: the comparability of the lunatics who claimed Clinton had Vince Foster killed and the people who comment frequently on Mary Jo Kopechne's last ride.

So you're arguing that the Kopechne story may not be true?

2006-07-21 5:40:00 PM
People need to get a sense of humour. The headline raised a smile with me.

2006-07-21 5:41:49 PM
Bush made a good call.

Any moral person can see that.

So you're arguing that the Kopechne story may not be true?

*headdesk*

A R N did we swap roles for a day, and no one gave me the note?

I said it was an inaccurate comparison. Clinton almost certainly did not have anything to do with Foster's death, and Ted Kennedy almost certainly did have everything to do with Kopechne's death. He did not try to kill her, he did not commit murder, but he left her for dead while thinking of saving his own ass.

And it worked.

2006-07-21 5:42:46 PM
jgm1976:
Uh, no, we hate him because he's a murderer.

Yes he is, just like Laura Bush.

/and Dick Cheney in a half-ass "attempted" way

2006-07-21 5:44:00 PM
Bush made a good call.

Any moral person bush-fanboy can must see that or he loses his Freep membership.

fixed that for ya.

(every time you masturbate you murder millions of potential lives. MURDERER!!!!!!)

Wow, that's an original headline.

Because other countries will pay for the research? Dude, nobody's gonna move out of the country over embryonic stem-cell research.

Look it was the whole infant, baby, fetus stem cell thing that bothers some people, now if we could find another source.....hmmmm...looks at map......well you know we have got a bunch of bodies that just seem to be piling up and nobody is using them, so......

/ no, well there is always death row, or we can ask Wal-Mart to import some from China, or maybe get som through UNICEF

2006-07-21 5:52:50 PM
Duffster: Although I think Mary Jo gets painted as too much of the innocent victim in the piece. She got into the car willingly, with a man who was drunk, a man who was married, to go have sex with him out in the woods.

Oh, she wasn't innocent, but none of her crimes deserved the death penalty. Well, except for stupidity - that one *always* deserves the death penalty.

2006-07-21 5:53:23 PM
You ever see someone you love in End-Stage Alzheimer’s? If there is any justice in the world Bush himself will come down with it and there will be no treatment for him because he vetoed this.

2006-07-21 5:54:02 PM
Boojum2k:
You honestly don't see the difference between the three?

Nope, not at all. You take on a weapon or vehicle, you take on responsibility.

Ted Kennedy = irresponsibly left the scene of an accident
Laura Bush = irresponisbly ran through a stop sign
Dick Cheney = irresponsibly hunting while intoxicated

All three are responsible for being irresponsible. Which caused people's injury and death.

Now, everyone has these little brushes of irresponsibility from time to time, and we learn from them. That's why your first DUI is not a capital offense. So, why can't this episode be regarded as a brush with irresponsibility? Why bring it up all the time?

2006-07-21 5:54:37 PM
Bill_Wick's_Friend
That was pretty funny.

/No, I do NOT agree with Bush's singular use of the veto

2006-07-21 5:55:21 PM
Bill_Wick's_Friend: every time you masturbate you murder millions of potential lives.

Yeah, but those potential lives that were sacrficed were instrumental in easing one human's suffering, and if one human's life is made better, it's worth it!

Ted Kennedy = irresponsibly left the scene of an accident
Laura Bush = irresponisbly ran through a stop sign
and yet, did not run away from the cops. She had a farking traffic accident. She didn't think of protecting her political future, run from the cops, any of that bull.
Dick Cheney = irresponsibly hunting while intoxicated Rumored to be intoxicated, friend claims he wasn't, but most certainly a fark-up.

On a par with leaving a girl to drown so you don't ruin your chances at the high society life? Bullshiat.

2006-07-21 5:57:56 PM
Look, it's been completely proven that Kennedy didn't know she was in the car, as she was asleep in the back seat. But some asshats will never let an honest mistake go. As for the delay in reporting the tragedy, we can all ask Mr. Cheney about damage control, eh?

2006-07-21 5:59:56 PM
Look, it's been completely proven that Kennedy didn't know she was in the car, as she was asleep in the back seat.

WTF? That has to be the lamest defense of the fat fark I've ever seen.

"Honestly Ossifer, I didn't known she was a car in my sleep!"

Gwendolyn: You ever see someone you love in End-Stage Alzheimer's?

Yes. Twice now, in fact. And I have a degenerative neurological disease myself (MS). And I'm still against embryonic stem-cell research.

Not all of us so inclined are self-centered moralists with no idea of the personal impact of such situations/diseases.

2006-07-21 6:04:26 PM
Man, this is some seriously old stuff. I'm no Kennedy fan but, fer chrissakes can the joke references be slightly closer to the last 20 years?

2006-07-21 6:06:58 PM
Sloth_DC: Because other countries will pay for the research? Dude, nobody's gonna move out of the country over embryonic stem-cell research.

Because other countries will allow use of embryonic lines, and the US won't. The scientists might not move out of the country, but the money sure as hell will.

2006-07-21 6:08:00 PM
mistersite: Because other countries will allow use of more embryonic lines, and the US won't.

And I even used preview. I suck.

SpongBub

Uh..correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Teddy tell the police that he dove repeatedly to try and rescue Mary Jo, but was unable to, and said his delay in calling the authorities was because he was in shock?

That would negate the whole "didn't know she was back there" agruement, if you ask me...

---

Do I think Teddy purposely left her to die? Probably not...

Do I think Teddy used his family's influence to save his ass because he was loaded and having an affair? Yep.

But he's certainly not the only rich asshole who's gotten out of trouble because of his family...

2006-07-21 6:13:31 PM
mistersite: Because other countries will allow use of embryonic lines, and the US won't.

Yes, the US does. They just won't pay for it. Not spending federal money on != banning.

How do you know when conservatives are desparate?

When they trot out the corpse of the Virgin Mary Jo.

Ted Kennedy = irresponsibly left the scene of an accident

Dick Cheney = irresponsibly hunting while intoxicated

Wow, dude, lay of the partisan crack, it's rotting your brain.

Ted Kennedy = drove drunkenly off a bridge, then left the scene and let his passenger die, then used his connections to make sure he got the minimum possible slap on the wrist in exchange

Laura Bush = ran a stop sign as a teenager with horrific results, but stood up and took responsibility for it.

Dick Cheney = Unsafe use of a firearm, with tragic results, but he reported it right away and didn't try to cover it up, and you have *zero* evidence he was intoxicated aside from your own bias. OTOH, he could have been a bit more contrite.

Notice the difference in scale of wrongdoing - Laura Bush at the bottom with a tragic accident that she took full responsibility for, to Dick Cheney who made a much more serious mistake and was perhaps not as contrite about as he should have been, to Ted Kennedy who compounded a bad mistake with at least two more resulting in a woman's death and no legal resolution to her murder.

Some of them may become ice babys. Of course everyone will associate them with a certain song that still haunts the over 30 farkers.

Ice ice baby vanilla
Ice ice baby (oh-oh) vanilla
Ice ice baby vanilla
Ice ice baby vanilla ice
