2006-07-19 9:45:47 AM
it would have been better had he shaved his head and sat on a front porch swing with a blank look on his face.

Being a minority I instinctively find any banjo playing scary.

I can't get the image of Darth Vader and Ned Beatty out of my head

Seriously. How rowdy does a bluegrass crowd really get?

2006-07-19 9:54:48 AM
Now we need Duel of the Fates on duelling banjos.

I saw the fingers moving, but couldn't hear any audio even at max volume. Heh.

Plaid shirt.

I think he's a clone.

what's Star Wars?
and I hate banjers.

2006-07-19 9:57:01 AM
That'd be great if everything played on a banjo didn't sound exactly the same.

BrotherB: Seriously. How rowdy does a bluegrass crowd really get?

Directly proportional to the amount of beer and ammo you bring.

2006-07-19 10:03:20 AM
wmoonfox: how do you tell the difference between all the banjo songs?

The words.

2006-07-19 10:04:13 AM
Lets perpetuate the stereotype of Southerners!

Yes! We all talk like this:

Dem damn leeebruls always takin or jobs. Ima fark mah siistar while figthn turrist.

Deliverance was 100% accurate in every way. We all talk and live just like that.

BTW this wasn't aimed at anyone in this thread, just pre-emptive defense to the soon-to-be southern U.S. bashing that is no doubt incoming. :)

2006-07-19 10:05:26 AM
What? No banjo jokes, yet? Let's correct that.

Q. How do you know when the stage is level?

A. When the banjo player drools from both sides of his mouth.

/Thanks. You've been a great audience. Please tip your waitresses.

2006-07-19 10:05:50 AM
Simply awesome. Someone should record the entire soundtrack in bluegrass style. I'd buy it. Twice. And I hate bluegrass.

2006-07-19 10:09:28 AM
I've been scared of banjos (& crewcuts) ever since that canoe trip I took with my buddies back in the 70's.

Not impressed.

The idea is OK. The execution leaves something to be desired.

Something like the whole arrangement.

2006-07-19 10:12:49 AM
I used to know those guys in the Second String Bluegrass band.

Oh, and a bluegrass crowd in Asheville NC can get quite rowdy.

What's the difference between a banjo player and a large pizza?

A large pizza can feed a family of four.

What do you say to a banjo player in a suit?

Will the defendant please rise.

Man, I'M SO TENTING.

2006-07-19 10:26:54 AM
Seriously. How rowdy does a bluegrass crowd really get?

Acutally they can be a blast. I was a anti-bluegrass music major type who thought it was all lame hillbilly music. Then I quit being a music major, saw a band (Nickel Creek) and bought a mandolin. Now I play in a bunch of local bands. It is so much fun, all of the improv of jazz without the stuck up yuppies.

Another bonus that most BG players don't let on to... much of the crowd (at least up nort here in Wisconsin) tends to be pretty, high, bra-less hippies who "dance" to music by hopping to the beat... many think that I nod to the beat while on stage... yep that's it.

2006-07-19 10:32:17 AM
Just took up re-learning the banjo after decades of neglect. I know it's the accordian of stringed instruments, but just like mandoskippy says, it's so much fun.

/A guilty pleasure I don't feel guilty about

2006-07-19 10:34:52 AM
long-time submitter, first-time green light

bluegrass live totally kicks. there's nothing like a big rowdy group of people sucking down PBR and pretending to dance. it's good wholesome fun.

and yes, Second String Bluegrass rocked the house

I didn't know they had basements in the South.

Wonder if he has a Younicks system too...
