Maybe I'm feeling a little too Friday right now, but I'm totally missing the Nazi imagery. Regardless, the article misquotes the poster. The poster reads: "...the Democrats expects African American voters to stay in their place." Perhaps not slipping into ebonics would help their message.

Diogenes: I'm totally missing the Nazi imagery

RTFA. The image is apparently just the bottom half of the ad.

The CraneMeister: The image is apparently just the bottom half of the ad.

Which is completely ignored in the article and renders the whole this null and void. Perhaps Charlie Cain can try again.

I agree with the ad's message, BTW: The Dems continue to assume they're going to get the black vote but do little of substance for that constituency. They're ignoring the voices of dissent that are arising over it to their peril. IMNSHO.

But also IMNSHO, if you put Hitler in an ad you've already lost your argument by guaranteeing few people will pay attention to anything else. Stupid of them.

2006-07-07 2:38:20 PM
I'd go out and get that paper to scan the full ad, but I've lived in Michigan my whole life and have never heared of "The Michigan Chronicle".

Judging by the devisiveness of the ad, it's probably a [whatever the non-offensive word for "newspaper geared towards black folks" is] paper someone prints on their inkjet.

2006-07-07 2:39:34 PM
It's funny that The Detroit News ran this story because I'll bet a weeks pay they run an editorial this weekend defending it.

2006-07-07 2:39:43 PM
But it's still cool to say Hitlery, right freepers?

2006-07-07 2:39:47 PM
The ____ continue to assume they're going to get the _____ vote but do little of substance for that constituency.

I had Mad-Libs booklet, too.

Nice Grammar

The ad in the picture says

"And now during this crucial election year, the Democrats expects African American voters to stay in their place," the ad says.

You almost had it, it's "jet ink"

"C'mon, Hitler, I'll buy you a glass of lemonade..."

2006-07-07 2:43:38 PM
Amazingly enough, the Democrats continue to get the majority of the Jewish vote, despite having had a "Final Solution" plank in the party platform every election since 1928.

2006-07-07 2:43:53 PM
Desperation.

2006-07-07 2:44:03 PM
WTF? They didn't include the part of the ad that is the entire point of the article? That's the only part that has any entertainment value, come on now.

2006-07-07 2:45:26 PM
Apparently the nazi imagery is hidden in the ad (as I sure couldn't spot it), but it makes a damn good point. Too bad they obscured it by being retards and (allegedly) godwinning.

2006-07-07 2:45:40 PM
Candygram for Mongo.

2006-07-07 2:45:46 PM
Wondering if during Nazi election campaigns they ever compared to opponents to Republicans or Democrats...

Hans, you Jeffersoned the thread again!

2006-07-07 2:46:11 PM
The ad was paid for by Voice the Vote, a little-known political action committee.

This political strategery sounds familiar, I wonder where these guys got it from?

2006-07-07 2:46:58 PM
This means "No more beans for Mongo"...

2006-07-07 2:47:07 PM
I will NEVER vote for anyone who plays the Hitler or 9/11 card in a campaign.

Dems, Repubs, and Libby's all freakin' suck.

All hail the Fark party. Isn't it time?

WTF? They didn't include the part of the ad that is the entire point of the article? That's the only part that has any entertainment value, come on now.

If it's offensive, they're certainly not going to reprint it. Plus, reprinting the full ad would simply amount to free advertising for the people behind the ad anyway.

2006-07-07 2:48:40 PM
I have to remind everyone of a radio ad I lisened to for a few weeks back in 00 that used the phrases (very nearly) "when you vote republican, someone gets dragged from a truck (with chain noises)", and "when you vote republican, another church burns".

Drove me nuts. They were running in IA and Missouri. Ugliest ads I've ever heard or seen.

BlindMan

Because it's NAZI IMAGERY. If you send in five Zyklon B box tops and shipping and handling they will send you a pair of Adolf Eichman Secret Decoder glasses!

I'm not happy at all with our current governor, but I refuse to vote for a guy who is at the top of the Amway pyramid, regardless of how many times they have renamed the company.

Lovely. I'm so happy to live in Michigan. Well, I guess it could be worse. *Florida*

Henry Ford had a picture of Hitler on his desk in Dearborn, MI and Hitler had a picture of Ford on his desk.

I'll bet you'd be pissed if it was Mohammed they refused to print.

MEGAMERICAN: Henry Ford had a picture of Hitler on his desk in Dearborn, MI and Hitler had a picture of Ford on his desk.

AND the Rami brothers AND Bruce Cambell come from Dearborn Michigan! It's starting to make sense . . . .

Only Nazis would approve of godwinning an election campaign!

HAHAHAHAHAHA! I always like to use a PR/adman named "Adolph Mongo" when I plan my political campaigns. What could go wrong?

/So i figured, when was I going to be in Haiti again....

I believe this needs to be repeated:
"Mongo said he is not working for DeVos or suggesting Detroiters vote for him.

"I'm encouraging people to make a choice. Detroit has been a one-party state for too long," he said.

2006-07-07 3:02:00 PM
Even if the Republican candidate didn't arrange this ad, they're overjoyed that it ran so they got the chance to denounce it. At the same time it still compares their opponent to Hitler. It's win/win!

2006-07-07 3:03:40 PM
ianderthal: If it's offensive, they're certainly not going to reprint it.

Guess that whole "freedom of the press" thing doesn't count if someone's feelings get hurt eh?

Farking priorites are juuuuust a tad out of whack.

This thread useless without pics of the actual nazi imagery.

Healy: There's this one kid, we call him Mongo on account of he's a mongoloid. He got out of his cage once and

Mary: He's in a cage?!

Healy: Well it's more of an enclosure really.

Mary: They keep him confined? That's bullshiat!

Healy: That's what I said, so I went out and got him a leash you know, one of those clothesline runners for the backyard. He's got plenty of room out there to dig. The kid's really blossomed. Now I can take him to ball games, movies--you know, happy stuff.
