17-year-old middle school student? WTF?

That's what I was going to say. I graduated from middle school when I was 14. If you are 17 and still haven't reached high school, then you need to do the school a favor and just drop out.
2006-06-30 03:08:05 AM
middle school huh? obviously needs to be there at that age, if he thinks that what he did was a good idea.
2006-06-30 03:08:45 AM
rocinante721 is my hero.
2006-06-30 03:10:30 AM
Got yo ass sucka!
2006-06-30 03:17:10 AM
i dropped out at 18 from middle school.
2006-06-30 03:17:18 AM
17-year-old middle school student is all you need to know about his decision making skills.
2006-06-30 03:18:53 AM
By this time he had retrieved it? Why wouldn't you keep it on hip at all times?

OK, maybe not everybody else is single.
2006-06-30 03:18:58 AM
It's like they grow morons in little glass tubes down there.
2006-06-30 03:20:47 AM
Cue the cunning plan image...
2006-06-30 03:21:19 AM
So the old guy didn't get busted for running down the street blasting away at the scumbag?

Now, I'm all for being able to defend yourself, even if it means dragging the dipshiat back in the house, but I'd be a little peturbed if a slug from the "victim's" gun went through my wall and entered me or a family member.
2006-06-30 03:21:46 AM
Old dude running between houses firing a gun, yeah I wanna live in that neighborhood.

Still, pity he didn't wing the little bastard.
2006-06-30 03:22:28 AM
FTFA: He advised the fled the residence as Johns shot at him

What the fark does that jargon mean?
2006-06-30 03:24:51 AM
2006-06-30 03:26:56 AM
Only a middle schooler would steal a .38 and an air gun and choose the air gun to commit the following burglary.
2006-06-30 03:27:22 AM
He then fired several shots at the fleeing suspect.

Is it legal to fire at a fleeing suspect in Florida?
2006-06-30 03:28:17 AM
i like how the homeowner chased him, shooting, and no charges were filed for that
2006-06-30 03:28:51 AM
Uhh... why the fark wasn't the old bastard arrested for shooting a gun repeatedly at a fleeing individual in a neighborhood?

You can't claim self defense for that shiat, especially if you hit someone's kid while running after the world's oldest middle-schooler.
2006-06-30 03:30:12 AM

Is it legal to fire at a fleeing suspect in Florida?

Yes it is, under the Darwin Enablement Act of 1831.
2006-06-30 03:32:00 AM
This thread needs the "You won the prize!" pic.
2006-06-30 03:34:36 AM
Old geezers just can't shoot like they used too.

the world could use one less 17-year-old.
2006-06-30 03:35:59 AM
especially if you hit someone's kid

The kid shouldn't have gotten in the way of the bullet.

Am really tired of the "Think of the children" nonsense.

No harm, no foul.
2006-06-30 03:36:45 AM
17 yr old middle school student
yep...that was the first thing that caught my eye also...
2006-06-30 03:39:23 AM
especially if you hit someone's kid

Please hit that kid!
2006-06-30 03:39:56 AM
The article, front page, no-less, was apparently written, by a 17 year old, middle school, student.

"I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years. I'm no dummy."
2006-06-30 04:06:20 AM
I think you get to keep shooting as long as you still consider them a threat.

Of course, what is a threat is subjective, but since he didn't hit a farking thing, it's not worth the DA's time.

The DA who brings this senior citizen up on charges is the DA who gets voted out. This is florida after all.
2006-06-30 04:12:22 AM
This kid obviously hasn't the sense not to shiat on his own door step. I mean, B&E in your own neighbourhood/ town where you have a reasonable chance of being identified is just dumb.

\\not a burglar, just seems obvious.
2006-06-30 04:12:26 AM
Too bad the punk is not dead.
2006-06-30 04:13:31 AM
For those of you who are not familiar with the Macclenny, Florida, think of it in the same league as "Deliverance". This will clearly explain the 17 yr. old middle school student.

/NOT from Macclenny
//from JAX
///not that much better west of the St. John's
2006-06-30 04:45:07 AM
He advised the fled the residence as Johns shot at him,

Reporter should be shot for crimes against grammar...or maybe go back to middle school.
2006-06-30 04:50:12 AM
He is lucky he isnt dead. Good work on the person who stood up for his right to have a home free of thieves and rapists and murderers.

This is what should happen every home invasion, a robber being shot at.
2006-06-30 05:03:06 AM
By this time, Mr. Johns retrieved his pistol from the console on his recliner and went out the front door.

Now there's a responsible gun owner for ya.

I suppose it's handy to shoot out the TV when you don't like the program.

/Pity he's such a bad shot.
2006-06-30 05:12:48 AM
zeio - you're an idiot. The only thing that the homeowner's gun did in this instance was make things worse. If the homeowner hadn't had a gun the result would have been exactly the same, except you wouldn't have had an angry 70 year old man charging through the neighbourhood firing a pistol inaccurately. The homeowner's actions are the only element of this story that created any genuine danger - he actually increased the level of danger and spread it around the neighbourhood.

For what it's worth, IMHO if he'd pulled the gun and shot the kid while the kid was in the house, it would have been justified self defense and completely understandable, but to chase someone down the street firing a gun, when they clearly present no further threat to you, is just irresponsible and dangerous.

FYI, his house was already free of thieves, murderers and rapists by the time he pulled his gun and went outside to provoke a confrontation. What if the kid's gun had been real and the homeowner had been shot dead? It would have been an unnecessary death, caused entirely by the homeowner putting himself back into danger after he'd already become safe again when the robber left.

That is all.
2006-06-30 05:13:42 AM
The kid shouldn't have gotten in the way of the bullet.

Am really tired of the "Think of the children" nonsense.

No harm, no foul.

Yeah, all that 'due concern for the saftey of others' shiat is just a pain in the A** ain't it.

/and you can always sue the guy when you get shot just walking in your own street.
// or your surviving spouse can
2006-06-30 05:17:16 AM
Luckily, Florida enacted a "Stand-your-ground" (a.k.a. the "shoot first, ask questions later") law in 2005.

This means it IS legal for that old man to run rampant through the streets shooing a pistol willy-nilly, EVEN if his life has not been directly threatened.

/It's a shame they didn't both just shoot each other.
2006-06-30 05:22:19 AM

You're an idiot.

That is all.
2006-06-30 05:23:29 AM
Just to add to the Boobies.. Wtf.. I was in highschool at 13... How retarded is this kid?...
2006-06-30 05:24:57 AM
The kid shouldn't have gotten in the way of the bullet.

Am really tired of the "Think of the children" nonsense.

Ah Fark -- home of the "Is he a troll, or just a moron?" game. Sometimes it's just so hard to tell.
2006-06-30 05:32:52 AM
Mikailus - oh, well, I suppose that provided you're able to type in a straight line I ought to overlook the absence of any facts or sensible debate and just take you at your word.

Boy, is my face red.

Compare and contrast: two situations, exactly the same, only in one of them you have a man running through the streets of a neighbourhood shooting a gun. How is the "shooting" option better for anybody in any way? I mean, other than in a "gun fantasy fuelled arousal" sort of way?
2006-06-30 05:55:14 AM
Pert is a gun grabbing communist who thinks he knows what is best for your protection.

Pert = gun grabbing totalitarian authoritarian mediocritomaton that wants you do be killed in genocide like Darfur, in gas chambers like Nazi Germany, Stalin Hitler and Mao agree with Pert gnu grabbing gun control is a good thing.

Pert = no guns = disarmament = genocide and mass murder.

Einzatgruppen D, leader, Pert.

Pert complicit with mass murder genocide and state democide.
2006-06-30 05:55:57 AM
Boy, is my face red.

Hell yeah it is, COMMIE red.
2006-06-30 05:56:50 AM
I went to middle school with a kid that drove to school. Or rather, he drove to middle school 2 years after I was out of middle school, but my little brother was there by then. Welcome to Floriduh.
/no kid left behind
2006-06-30 05:57:09 AM
How is the "shooting" option better for anybody in any way? I mean, other than in a "gun fantasy fuelled arousal" sort of way?

What, that's not good enough for you? ;)
2006-06-30 05:58:49 AM
Pert: What this dude did isn't legal, even in Florida. Pursuing a fleeing robber...OFF your property...and continuing to fire when you're not hitting a damn thing? That's reckless endangerment if -I- ever saw it.

Shooting at the guy running away; that's not legal in Florida.
2006-06-30 06:08:29 AM
Question - if someone looked out their front window and saw this crazy old man firing away (seemingly) randomly and running towards their home, the "stand-your-ground" law would mean they could legally shoot him first, then ask questions? I mean for all they know he's gonna break in, and theive and rape and pilliage his way through their family home...

The kid was clearly an asshat, but the old guy sounds like a trigger happy fool, who made the situation exponentially worse and deserves to have his weapons taken away.
2006-06-30 06:13:18 AM
adminJim: Answer: IANAL, so don't shoot crazy old men because I said so.

But in this case, the person being shot at was being shot at due to his commission of a crime, which would make his argument of self-defense illegitimate.

To shoot at ... oh. I see what you're saying.

2006-06-30 06:20:31 AM
zeio - mediocritomaton

What on earth is that? A Transformer or something?
2006-06-30 06:31:21 AM
zeio - thank you for making my point for me. You also managed to make it in a far more hysterical and hilarious way than I could ever have dreamed of. I take it back, you're a genius.

I note that you conveniently missed my comment that shooting the kid dead while he was in the house would have been justifiable self-defense. For the record, I'm not against guns - I'm against people who think that it's right to run down the street firing indiscriminately simply because they've been robbed.

And as for your comment about being a gnu-grabber.....what I choose to do at the weekend in the privacy of my own menagerie is entirely my own business and perfectly legal in the UK.

/"Also, make a note of the word 'mediocritomaton' - I like it and wish to use it more in conversations...."
