(Some Hippie)   Howard Dean says we're "about to enter the '60s again," but insists he's not talking about Vietnam. Sounds like he's got the hallucinogenic part down already, though   (cnsnews.com) divider line

Bummer. With AIDS running loose now, free love will be sharply reduced.

Wow, what a poorly-written article.

I wonder where Randy Hall falls in the political spectrum...

the age of enlightenment led by religious figures who want to greet Americans with a moral, uplifting vision.

Does such a beast exist in America? I haven't heard an uplifting message from a religeous leader in a long time. They seem to focus other the evil habits of others now days.

Then we'll go to the 80's, the 20's, the 1860's, and then all the way to the 1950's....AHHHHHHHHHH!!!

As a official internet-ordained minister, here's one from me:

Lemme check back into the '60s for influential, inspiring/religious figures:

1. Charles Manson. Nope; even Dean isn't that stupid.

2. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Nah. Half the Beatles are dead and Mia Farrow's an embarrassing has-been.

3. Billy Graham: Very popular in the '60s, but he's retired now. Don't think Dean's going there anyway.

Well, we could always hold hands in a big circle and try to levitate the Pentagon...

/no, wait--Abbie Hoffman committed suicide 20 years ago
//the '60s are OVER, kids

Wow. What a wonderfully balanced story from a Brent Bozell organization. Bleh.

Another mistake Democrats made in the '60s, Dean acknowledged, was that "we did give things away for free, and that's a huge mistake because that does create a culture of dependence, and that's not good for anybody, either,"

Wow, this is from a Democrat! Have the magnetic poles flipped or something? We're hearing Democrats talk about fiscal responsibility and personal independence, while Republicans talk about massive spending increases and big government as the people's protector.

stiletto_the_wise: Wow, this is from a Democrat! Have the magnetic poles flipped or something? We're hearing Democrats talk about fiscal responsibility and personal independence...

Why are people so surprised by this? These people are politicians, all of them who have grouped themselves into basically two camps who fight back and forth amongst themselves for one thing, power. Once they get power they do whatever the hell they want anyway, so the party not in power says obviously that something is wrong so that they can convince the public that they can do it better in the opposite way so that they can get in there and get power to do whatever they want to do. Obviously as this happens each side will change what they are doing in order to get power, nobody's gonna stick hard and fast to an idea if it's not getting them anywhere.

/well maybe those religious folks but I've never understood them
//Never forget the latin root for politics, poly meaning many and ticks well they're just a bunch of blood suckers

Nonsense. The sixties aren't coming back. Now, if you'll excuse me, my best friend Paul and I have to avoid my older brother Wayne and go see what Winnie is doing.

Musicology101: Excellent! That means music will get good again.

Yes, but it won't be rock, it'll be something NEW just like rock was in the 60's, which means most likely you're going to HATE IT if you're over 21 and still stuck on that 60 year-old stuff.

2006-06-28 1:59:20 PM
Well, if you guys have ever seen Dean's college headshot, he looked like the man who could get it for you, if you know what I mean.

/no, not Red

oldfarthenry: I'm torn between becoming a hippie or a beatnik.

Beatniks are WAY cooler.
Stay off the smack, though.

/wouldn't mind a return to the '60s, as long as women keep shaving.

As would I. Drinking isn't as fun anymore now that I can legally do it.
