Friendly advice to the Palestinians;

ISRAEL may not be bluffing.

Really, theres an extremely small chance that they are bluffing, But I'm not a betting man. Especially if my life was on the line.

Your decision ... Just thought I'd mention & give fair warning.

"We are preparing for a broad and forceful action drawing on all means at our disposal," Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told parliament in response to questions on the hostage crisis.

Time to draw the USA out of the holster.

This should be interesting. Maybe they'll kill every man woman and child in Gaza. Both sides are animals, no side holds the moral high ground.

Whoa... I bet nobody saw this coming.

Instead of "hilarity ensues," I much rather prefer "Cue the Benny Hill music."

/not sayin', just sayin'

Why don't they do this for civilian hostages? Seems to me if you want to discourage attacks/kidnapings of civilians you should treat it MORE harshly than attacks/kidnappings of military personel.

Here's a question. What do you do if a terrorist organization is elected as the ruling party of a country, and they proceed with terrorist activity (as they promised to do). What if Taliban was to get elected democratically in Afghanistan and then kept harboring terrorism? Israel is in a sticky situation, on the one hand they don't want to take out Palestinian leaders, on the other hand the leaders are a terrorist organization which pledges to proceed with terrorism. Isn't that a borderline declaration of war?

Basically, it sux that the situation has escalated, but I don't blame Israel if they do take out Hamas. Now that they decided to rule, they can't escape the consequences of their actions.

Hey I got an idee, how about they simply announce to the Palestinian people that they'll execute 10 of them for every Israeli soldier that dies. After all it worked so well in Yugoslavia for You-Know-Who,

and before you start whining about how this is different, you tell ME how many people are going to die if those troops invade.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the guy captured was a soldier no? I can see being upset if he was a civilian; but since when are military memebers an illegitimate target?. Isn't that how Israel justifies all those strikes against Hamas Leaders; that they are effectively soldiers and therefore fair game?

...

You mean, sounds like and old fashioned showdown at the O.K Koran

2006-06-27 1:46:56 PM
I find it surprising that what it took to start this was a kidnapped soldier... I know that they may torture him, and it’s a terrible situation and all that, but don’t people die in this conflict pretty much every day? What makes this guy so special? Not trying to flame, just looking for someone more familiar with the politics to explain...

since when are military memebers an illegitimate target?

Since when is targeting a member of the military NOT an act of war?

Christ I hate it when people are too dumb to know they've won. These guys are as stupid as the Chechyns. They've got a mess of land, shiatty land, but it's shiatty land in Tel Aviv too. The Israelis pulled citizens out of the strip in huge numbers at the cost of massive voter support, and still we have them picking at the scab. The Jews aren't making it easy exactly, but now would be the time to try to make Palistine (the NATION of Palistine. There I said it.) suck less. Build some schools and attract some foreign investment. If the place were OK, most of teh bombings would stop. It's like why the US has a mexican immigration problem and not a canadian immigration population. Because Canada is a pretty nice place. They could probably talk the Israelis into a bunch of aid, just so the number of prospective suicide bombers would drop.

Interesting timing with the potential recognition of Israel. If they bust into Gaza with massive force, they're likely to look like giant a-holes who blew the most recent chance at recognition (a key component to peace).

/I think both governments are jerks.

As much as I hate to say it, maybe it's time for the rest of the world to just back off and let things take their own course.

/is for nuking the whole place, Israel and Palistine so the rest of the world knows we still have the gravitas to use the bomb.

Gaza has no seaport.
It's airport was destroyed.
All it's access points are controlled by Israel and Egypt, Israel's best regional friend.
Gaza is completely dependant on those two countries to permit any trade.

2006-06-27 1:52:27 PM
Why don't they just press the Easy Button?

Israel announce that they had prior plans to release some Palestenian women and childeren from prison and if the Israeli Soldier is returned unharmed they will go ahead with the existing plan to release the Palestenians.

Everyone saves face and Israel and Palestenian Govs' can move ahead with mutual recognition and hopefully join forces to deal with Hamas.

Othewise, I'd pay-per-view for cameras on those tanks as they roll over Gaza.

There are ideas here that parallel Ireland. Full acceptance also essentially recognises the borders and accepts the loss of whatever is not handed back

By those standards Israel has been waging unilateral war on the Plaestinians for the last decade. One of the reasons there are no reasonable Palestinian leaders to negotiate with is that most of them were kidnapped and jailed or Killed outright By Israeli security forces in the last decade. almost all the Palestinian Moderates who weren't a part of the corrupt PLO machine (including several prominent university professors) were pre-emptively declared terrorists and either targeted for military stikes by the IDF, or arrested or Assasinated by Shin Bet.

They have nothing but beach. Take some time out from shelling your neighbor and build a freakin' pier.

Why does Hamas think Israel is going to back down? Everytime someone has attacked them or threatened them, they've gone in and just stomped ass. Hell, they flew all the way to Iraq to destroy power plants. They assassinated PLO leaders after Munich. Etc, etc.

They're like a bulldog. If you stick your hand in the cage, they're gonna bite it off. It's not like they've never reacted before...and we've all seen it throughout history!!

God DAMNIT arabs are farking stupid. Yanno what, I hope they do do something stupid and get completly farked up. I hope the entire planet declares war on them. I'd volunteer in a heartbeat if the major countries declared war on Arabs. So tired of their ridiculous BS

ARRGHHH!H!H!!!!!

To the Palestinians: STOP firing rockets into Israel. Release the Israeli hostage.

To the Israelis: STOP assasinating people.

/problem solved. at least in Gaza.

Responding to acts of war with military force is wholly acceptable.

Actually, it's more about an attack within the internationally recognized border (ie, not the occupied territories), with the apparent backing of a democratically elected government. Or in other words, an act of war.

Mr. Clarence Butterworth
Both sides are animals, no side holds the moral high ground.

I remember once when my sister and I were in a noisy casino, and she was telling me to "take the moral high ground". Well, I'm a bit hard of hearing when background noise is present, so I was really confused when she told me to "Take the Merle Haggard".

True story. I even asked her to repeat herself, and she repeated what I thought was the same.

"The enemy will regret the moment they raid Gaza. The price will be so heavy," said spokesman Abu Ubaida.

Oh, give me a break! The kill-all-the-Jews towel rappers have been saying that since 1948, and every single time it has been the Arabs that have had to beg for mercy. Even when they had British, US, and UN help, the Arabs have not been able to keep from getting annihilated by the Jews. They had better give this soldier back unharmed and well fed. No way is Israel bluffing.
