That may very well be the longest article ever.

Anyone have the cliff notes?

Ahh...next time I have to wait for the entire page to load before opening my big mouth.

Oh well.

lmxloco: Anyone have the cliff notes?

"Vikram Buddhi allegedly posted the detailed and threatening messages on an online message board."

says it all,

if the kid's name was James Smith, there'd be no problems.

Crackhead Ben: if the kid's name was James Smith, there'd be no problems.

definitely not true there. I know a college student who was arrested for doing this same thing and he didn't have a foreign name. (Unless Dwight is foreign)

labman: (Unless Dwight is foreign)

Ahem, Dwight EISENHOWER? Does Eisenhower sound American to you?

It's time to put down the pipe.

On the other hand, if he had said all DEMOCRATS should be assassinated, he would be given a syndicated newspaper column.

/cruel and unusual punishment

GraphicAddiction: It's time to put down the pipe.

C'mon, foreign kid, brown skin, here on a "student visa," goes around proclaiming we should kill all the republicans?

He's either a terrorist or Howard Dean's successor.

Well, they are on the same side, after all. ;)

I think killing is a bit much. I think forcing republican politicians to actually live the moral values they support would be punishment enough for them.

That would never work.

They'd just remove morality entirely and become Democrats.

Anybody who publicly advocates assassinating the President can expect a visit from the authorities.

ANYBODY....

Crackhead Ben: C'mon, foreign kid, brown skin, here on a "student visa," goes around proclaiming we should kill all the republicans?

Yeah, good luck avoiding deportation. Last time I checked, threatening the president is considered a "crime involving moral turpitude."

Nonsense, they're the "do as we say, not as we do" administration.

Besides, most people don't live up to the same moral value system they support.

The caliber of engineering students at PU must be slipping. Who doesn't know that threatening the president is a crime?

His diatribe doesn't stop at political enemies. If it did, I might chalk it up to a ill-conceived rant. No, he goes on to urge "the Web sites readers to bomb the United States and for them to rape American and British women and mutilate them"

This is one disturbed individual. his lawyer couldn't be more wrong. He's quite capable of trying to carry through on his threat.

you say that like it'd be a bad thing.

considering lip service and wedge-issuing is all it's getting now, i'm not really seeing the downside.

You mean a concerned Fox News viewer...

Nope, the Sun-Times just owns a mess of local newspapers, and this is one of them.

Silly rabbit. Only senators can threaten the president.

So much for freedom of speech.

It's actually against the law to threaten the kill the president.

2006-04-18 5:07:30 PM
If he had sent anthrax to the office of the Senate Minority leader, he'd get away with it.

2006-04-18 5:08:13 PM
Aside from this guy being pretty sick (especially the "rape/mutilate women" part), I was puzzled by this passage:

"He was originally hired as a teaching assistant in the math department but was removed from that position and is now a teaching assistant in the industrial engineering department."

Ummm...they don't give the context of this statement, so I don't know whether it has anything to do with the charges against the guy or not. If it doesn't, then what on earth is this fact doing in the story? Does it have any relevance to anything whatsoever?

If it *does* have relevance, I can't figure out how--is that considered part of his punishment or something? Being transferred from the Math Dept. to the Engineering Dept.?

Weird.

2006-04-18 5:09:06 PM
That's interesting.

You can call for the deaths of all Republicans or Democrats, as a group, and nothing much can be done to you.

However, if you single out individual names, prepare for the shiatstorm.

2006-04-18 5:09:09 PM
When's the last time anybody heard of a college student threatening to kill a Democrat?

serious question, no flame intended.

2006-04-18 5:09:50 PM
illadelfian,

So...let me follow your logic here...you are saying that the Democratic party is in favor of murder and rape?

2006-04-18 5:10:09 PM
I was alright with him upto the urging the web sites readers to bomb the United States and for them to rape American and British women and mutilate them, part.

With a name like Buddhi you'd expect him to be a pacifist or something like that. He's probably just a fed-up tech support drop out.

2006-04-18 5:10:15 PM
i think the president should dye Easter Eggs.

2006-04-18 5:10:29 PM
Krapitino!

You better watch out!

Secret Service WILL appear at your home soon.

They DO NOT have a sense of humor.

They will only see the first part of what you said and NOT the puncline.

Don't even ask me how I know this.

Hell,I'm probably in trouble again just warning you....

2006-04-18 5:11:16 PM
Not surprising. Speaking as a Purdue student, spending an hour with the "OMFG GLASS PARKING LOT, G-DUB, LAWL!" 20-something Republicans on campus will do that to a person.

2006-04-18 5:11:25 PM
Listen children to some wise words of advice: NEVER EVER THREATEN A PRESIDENT OR EX-PRESIDENT of the United States of America. It is not protected by free speech, and it will usually get your ass thrown into prison because it is illegal.
/The more you know/

2006-04-18 5:11:33 PM
He doesn't do a whole lot to help drum up sympathy with that whole "bomb America and rape its women" standpoint.

2006-04-18 5:13:38 PM
On the other hand, if he had said all DEMOCRATS should be assassinated,

No, just their leaders. In order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed, too. Otherwise, they will turn out to be outright traitors.

/if it's good for the goose...

2006-04-18 5:14:19 PM
You can say just about whatever you want about the president and his cabinet as long a you don't say your going to kill them, which is apparent something this guy couldn't comprehend.

I wonder what his beef is anyways, all of the Indian people I've met on campus profess to liking America & its people, so I'm curious what set this guy off.

As for the guy saying he's just being harrassed for being foreign, grow up.

The caliber of engineering students at PU must be slipping. Who doesn't know that threatening the president is a crime?

I think he knows, just as he knows that raping and mutilating women is a crime. He just doesn't care.

His diatribe doesn't stop at political enemies. If it did, I might chalk it up to a ill-conceived rant. No, he goes on to urge "the Web sites readers to bomb the United States and for them to rape American and British women and mutilate them"

True that. Petty politics aside, this guy is messed up.

So, a college student, most of whom aren't exactly geniuses, goes off on a foolish and moronic tirade for which the justice department will rightfully be investigating him for the foreseeable future.

Why is this Farkworthy?

Oh yeah, so individuals like GraphicAddiction can get their jollies taking potshots at the fools who post equally foolish comments.

Kind of hard to get around this one. You can't talk about stuff like that when it comes to our leaders.

FREEDOM OF SPEACH!!!

I thought this was the land of the free, where people could express themselves without persecution. South Park can portray Mohammed on their show, which is a very disrespectful thing in islam, but we can't threaten to kill the President???

Look people, for the past few decades we haven't had to worry about defending our free speach. I say we all write death threats to President Bush, to show that we should be able to freely express ourselves without persecution!!!

WTF? Of all the places to threaten His Monkeyness, why on a Sirius stock board?
