Also, make sure the curtains are not see-thru.

They're only researching breastfeeding *moms*, right?

I have a scary image of an 18 year old guy lifting mom's shirt for a squirt in his morning coffee.

This makes me farking ill.
How dare you greenlight this article with this headline?

2006-04-07 3:43:41 PM
Actually, if you RTFA, the breastfeeding stopped at the normal age and they monitored the kids up until they turned 14.

2006-04-07 3:44:06 PM
I wonder how many people will actually read the article and understand just why the headline is funny...

Nothing to see here folks, move along.

Cue the people assuming people won't read the article in negative one, negative two, negative...

I think that would be a tad awkward in the school cafeteria.

submitter here: Yes, my submitted headline deliberately misunderstands their badly written headline.

Query: So what?

Actually because it is blatantly anti breastfeeding. There are a bunch of people who will walk around for days, nay, weeks with this as their only thought of breastfeeding.
It sends a bad message.

When I was a kid, I was breastfed by my father. My mother wouldn't do it - she said she liked me as a friend.

That's pretty presumptuous of you, isn't it?

Yes, it is.
I have seen a few of these kinds of threads, and it is never pretty.

RTFA, and I get the point of it. Still think the headline is hilarious, although I now need inner-eye bleach.

Hey, if you're still breastfeeding at 14, asthma is the least of your problems. Or maybe not. I guess it all depends on what your mom looks like.

Wasn't there a sketch on Little Britain along these lines?

I'd like to hope people don't make important decisions based on Fark headlines.

I know, I know. I just found it funny that you, as a FARKer, were assuming other FARKers would assume something.

It doesn't necessarily mean that's an invalid assumption, though.

For a second there, I read that article with anticipation that there was in fact, testing of 14 year old breast feeding.

There was no mention, and as such I am dissapointed in not having the opportunity to become offended.

Bah

lucky jerks, I wasn't getting boobie from older women at the age of 14...

/I kid, I RTFA.

2006-04-07 9:56:48 PM
Honestly... I wouldn't have been suprized if the headline was correct. There have been some really touchy feely people who've breastfed their kids for way longer than they should have... It's just kinda freaky when the kids -ask- for a drink...

/shudders
//was breast-fed

2006-04-07 10:13:39 PM
WTF?

2006-04-07 11:13:11 PM
The study surveyed mothers who *reported* breastfeeding for 4 months, and doesn't mention whether their baby was breastfed exclusively or for how much longer, if at all. Very poorly designed study, which, unsurprisingly, contradicts many others conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the World Health Organization, etc. all of whom recommend breastfeeding for at least a year. The positive effects are often cumulative...so the longer the better (within reason). :)

I realise I'm not on TF anymore (thanks to being broke), but i think it was a requirement to be able to see how badly worded "news" articles could be twisted into things like this.

It's the fault of the poorly educated writers and copy editors.

This was a SNL skit also, if anyone else remembers.
