I actually got up for this and told myself that if Portugal scored in the first few minutes, I would go back to bed. Then the US scored and I was up for good. This is one HELL of a win for the US.
2002-06-05 07:41:08 AM
Fooled you all. I didn't click AND I'm not going to watch.

Portuguese decendent here, woke up at 5 hoping for a Portuguese win, but oh well. Wonderfully played by both sides. Congrats USA. I am 17, my parents are both Portuguese, so I guess I was just cheering on my "second homeland"? Regardless, I'm rooting both all the way.
2002-06-05 07:55:27 AM
Why must Agoos play? LOL, I laughed uncontrollably when he did that. *smirk*

Germany are now 1 goal up on Ireland

Will the filter insert an'a' inserted in a German swear-word?

The referee blows his whistle, and the game begins. The Mexican team has first possession of the ball, kicking it with extreme caution around midfield as the crowd buzzes with excitement. The opposition stands nearby, hesitantly guarding its side. As the situation continues, the crowd's excitement begins to level off, until everyone in the stands sits silent.

Homer: [shouting] Boring!
Krusty: Come on, you schnorers, do something!
Brockman: [calling plays from booth listlessly] Halfback passes to the center. Back to the wing. Back to the center. Center holds it. Holds it. [rolls eyes] Holds it...

Mexican Announcer: [excitedly] Halfback passes to center, back to wing, back to center, center holds it! Holds it! Holds it!

the score is really 3-2 for protugal... they just seemed to have misplaced one of their goals. understandable, you know after the siesta they were naturally disoriented.

Jesus, Fb- is vocal today. . .
2002-06-05 08:01:18 AM
....South Korea and Poland will wipe the floor with the US! :P

(Well done though....who'd have thunk it? You get beat by Holland 2-0 but do the business against Portugal? Yikes!)
2002-06-05 08:01:26 AM
hehe protugal... haha... damn!
2002-06-05 08:03:26 AM

It was Iran. France, 98.

Great win. Very well played on both sides. Donovan & Beasley were very exciting to watch.

2002-06-05 08:24:11 AM
Feck, I could have driven to the stadium in 20 minutes...and it was on most channels...

Soccer is mostly for kids and women.
2002-06-05 08:25:16 AM
I got up for this, watched it all, and I am so glad I did. People are calling this the greatest win in history for US soccer. Great game guys! Keep up the good work!

2002-06-05 08:26:03 AM
Englishman here. At least one of our countries can play decent football.
2002-06-05 08:26:41 AM
the only thing left to top this is if China beats Brazil
2002-06-05 08:27:45 AM
Kinda cool to watch a good game then go to work. A local coffee shop had the game on and quite a crowd.
2002-06-05 08:27:51 AM
At least the English are there
(frustrated dutch guy here)
2002-06-05 08:27:58 AM

Then explain to me why you let the Swedes break a lightbulb in your rectum?
2002-06-05 08:30:39 AM
The goose is too old!!

Donovan and Beasley finally stepped up on this level!!

They should keep Friedel in goal(he's on a roll!)

Little Frankie, in my opinion, shouldn't be out there.

McBride is the man.

Arena is a genius!!

Those are my thoughts and I'm stickin to em.

soccer/football players are definitely the best looking athletes.

Sorry for the tangent, but I must've missed when the running joke started -- what makes this the year of the underdog? (sportswise i can think of patriots winning superbowl, but what else?)
2002-06-05 08:34:25 AM
Way Hay!! Thats a surprise, but hey it's a world cup of surprises.... Poland were awful the other night but South Korea might give you a run for your money.

Still amazed by the number of Farkers that feign disinterest but still visit and leave comments on this page..... you must have very boring lives to be wasting your time on something you have no interest in...

Come on Ireland - kick some German arse!!

Oh 2nd half has started......
