Thank You.

Aww, did the submitter hurt your widdle feelings?

I agree with Lucas. Foreigners would be well served to ban our frozen chicken AND our television.

The CraneMeister: Aww, did the submitter hurt your widdle feelings?

Not especially... it's just an idiotic statement.

"the lifestyles portrayed on "Dallas" as an example of how Hollywood irresponsibly infects the minds of poor people overseas"

Timely statement.

I like Lucas, I hope to work for him someday but he's been making some weird ass comments lately. Now that he's done with Star Wars he starts to make comments about blockbuster movies and the invasive American culture.

2006-03-29 4:48:31 PM
Well, it's a good thing that he's referencing new TV shows like "Dallas" as his examples.

I think the whole Empire in the movies. At least, that's my impression.

"George Lucas is worried about American cultural imperialism"

Well maybe he should warn moviegoers with a tinfoil hat concocted theme where evil overloads plot to seize control of an entire civilizations liberty and freedom, peppered with quotes from the administration that he fears will conquer and crush the innocents, to thunderous applause.

/oh wait.

end quote

well, considering it's the first line of the article, and paraphrasing George, the submitter can hardly take credit...at best he's third in line:

VADER VENDOR: Director George Lucas is worried about American "cultural imperialism."

2006-03-29 5:21:19 PM
He cited the lifestyles portrayed on "Dallas" as an example of how Hollywood irresponsibly infects the minds of poor people overseas...

Years ago, my father finally visited Ireland and met the relatives he had never met.

As this was the height of DALLAS popularity over there, they all called him 'J.R.' and assumed he talk in a Texas drawl, wear a cowboy hat, etc.

My Dad grew up in The Bronx.

/Lord knows how BROKEBACK MTN is changing these opinions...

Still waiting on the American version of 'Honk Bang' to run.

/Actually it's still suprising to me to see the amount of American programming on foreign stations.

It's because he's a posterboy for imperialistic captilist greed.

I wouldn't do anything about it if I was him. I've heard the Empire strikes back.

My head asplode from both Lucas' comments and the article itself.

However, Mr. Lucas should be more worried about... you know, sucking?

Upon further review, Mr. Lucas stated that initially he was mistaken, indeed it was Han that shot first.

/still bitter

Marketers, too, presumably, since a lot of poor people in other countries probably see Mr. Lucas's "Star Wars" line of products and think: "That is what I want to have."

A lot of poor people in other countries probably see Mr. Lucas's "Star Wars" line of products and think: "If I can paint another 1,000 Boba Fett action figures today, maybe I can make enough wages to feed my family".

In other news, George Lucas' new motto is: "I've got mine, fark you and good night!"

/nothin'

2006-03-29 5:24:52 PM
After being raised on American television, I just don't have the attention span to read the entire article.

2006-03-29 5:24:58 PM
Ok who in their right mind living in a 3rd world country would go ape for a limited edition Luke Skywalker "action figure" with R2D2 accessory?

I'd be more concerned about rebel guerillas coming to chop my arm off...

2006-03-29 5:25:39 PM
Lucas is worth 3.5 billion dollars. For realz.

2006-03-29 5:26:32 PM

Thank You.

So this is how western culture and economic freedom die...with a boneheaded comment from George, followed by thunderous applause.

2006-03-29 5:27:39 PM
What!?!?!? I think Lucas needs rehab.

Yeah- he's drunk on cash.

2006-03-29 5:29:36 PM
last i checked there were no guns forcing anyone to import our culture.

2006-03-29 5:29:51 PM
Good grief.

I agree with Lucas 100%, as would just about anyone who has spent a few years in other countries without the company of Americans. Its brutal, how TV and movies have affected the rest of the world.

2006-03-29 5:30:16 PM
darch

He's drunk on something. I had the pleasure of visiting Skywalker Ranch as a THX certified specialist years ago. The place is simply amazing considering it's also his private home. I think he ought to downsize just a little bit before he starts rambling on about cultural responsibility.

2006-03-29 5:30:46 PM

I know that's what I always say when I see a Jedi.

BobtheFascist

Yeah, it just seems a tad disingenuous when men of his wealth and influence start belittling... influence. Isn't he just a little bit complicit in the spread of American culture?

2006-03-29 5:32:39 PM
he is making crap movies to make sure that the Star Wars brand doesn't get anymore powerfull

I work for George Lucas.

So I am really getting a kick really .

Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about.

But trust me.... You don't.

I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you dont know what you are talking about.

This is how bad info gets passed around.

If you dont know about the topic....Dont make yourself sound like you do.

Cuz some Farkers belive anything they hear.
