On the down side, I am currently sitting in Saskatchewan.

On the plus side, I get way better hockey coverage here than I do at home in Chicago.

/end threadjack

From my hometown. It's not actually a newspaper, it's the local university's student paper. The 'problem' is that jesus is performing a sex act on a pig. Apparently that's a problem.

Let me be the first to say:

This thread is worthless without pics.

/of jesus giving some dome

2006-03-08 1:52:29 AM
And it's bigger than 20 people...like 30, 35 tops. There's also the student union weighing in on this, the local press and a letter sent out everyone with a usask.ca address from the U of S president.

I always wanted to see the Sheaf on Fark, but not for this

but was he auto-fellating?

What's the problem? Isn't this already in the bible?

meh. Cue the attention whore pic.

2006-03-08 5:06:55 AM
It's not like he drew a stick figure of the savior. Now THAT would upset me.

It's a cartoon, I don't really care.

I'm more worried about the christians and christian priests being murdered right now because of the danish cartoon scandal.

/disclaimer: christian
//not been murdered by an angry muslim yet
///still defend Islam, it really does preach respect, peace and community

I don't get it.

Are they blaming jesus for excessive commercialism? Or was it just a cheap excuse for a religios blowjob joke?

Jesus performing a sex act on a capitalist pig...

Technically that could be correct. Jesus, son of and by extension god, when he created us must have created oral sex. And in his first experiments at oral he must a have 'pre-formed' it before he gave it to us in the form of a blowjob.

Yeah.....thats a long (and not particularly funny) post, just to point out a spelling mistake.

/b....b...bb.....but Jesus got a blowjob.......

"Being able to speak your mind is not necessarily the right to bash others without reason," Austin said

No, really, that's exactly what it means. If you are prohibited from bashing others without reason then you really don't have the ability to speak your mind.

/I support your right to be offensive
//As long as you understand I reserve the same right

I'm not a Christian, yet I find the idea of this cartoon offensive because it insults the belief-system of other people.

Nonetheless, I also think that anyone has the right and priviledge to make jokes about any old damn thing they choose without no fear of retribution or "laws" being imposed on their free speech.

2006-03-08 5:33:53 AM
and? like everyone didn't know jesus felated pigs.

2006-03-08 5:37:57 AM
One day, this will be in the Bible:

And when they nail my pimpled ass to the cross
I'll tell them I found Jesus that should throw them off
He goes by the name Jesus and steals hubcaps from cars
Oh Jesus can I borrow your crowbar?
To pry these God damn nails out they're beginning to hurt
Crucified and all I got was this lousy T-shirt
"I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!" I'll sing as I'm flogged
Yeah that's what I would do if I were God
So vote for me for Savior and you'll go to Heaven
Your lame duck Lord is like Kevin Spacey in "Seven"
With creepy threats of H-E-Double-Hockey-Stick
You just can't teach an old God new tricks
But would I be a good Messiah with my low self-esteem?
If I don't believe in myself would that be blasphemy?
Just sport some crummy "holier than thou" facade
Yeah that's what I would do if I were God

2006-03-08 5:39:23 AM
Going with dudemanbro on this one. Attention whoring.

I imagine lots of people in that place look for attention, seems like a lonely place.

2006-03-08 5:44:09 AM
So where's the flood of pics of Jesus blowing a pig?

If it's okay to post the Muhammed pics in every thread mentioning Islam surely it's okay to post Jesus-pig-secks in this one.

2006-03-08 5:44:13 AM
The editor of that newspaper will be lucky if he doesn't find himself expelled for this. A story like this may or may not get wind and become the outrage of the week. If it does, I suspect the university will come down hard on whoever approved the publication of that cartoon.

2006-03-08 5:47:27 AM
Yup. Just some stupid kid attention-whoring.

2006-03-08 5:48:01 AM

Surely you could troll better than that. Not one post here has stated it was wrong to show cartoons of Jesus.

FluffyPanda: I don't get it.

Could it be the contrast between societies?

Look at it this way:

One society, when faced with offencive (I had to put the "c" in thier because they are Canadian and it is more offencive) cartoons published in a paper will either ignore it or have individuals resign that post.

The other society (I prefer to call them "the religon of peace") firebombs embassies, blame countries that had nothing to do with it (no major news paper that I know of even published them in the USA) and kill dozens of people (mostly thier own countrymen).

It is quit the contrast, I would think.

I believe that the cartoon is saying that Christianity is about making money nowadays (and it has a point, IMHO - much of it is).

Why don't any of the cartoons in these student-run papers ever get inked? Ah well. :P

I don't think there's anything that offensive about the cartoon - as I said, Jesus is just portrayed as a symbol of the religion here, so it's not actually directed AT him.

Then again, I'm not easily offended.

That's farking funny as hell.

i am the infidel, offensive is not spelled with a "c" in Canada. Offence is, offensive is not. Yes, it's strange.

Also, the Muslim protests were really not about the cartoon. Sure, they SAY it was, just like the "official" reason for WW1 was the assassination of some aristocrat or other. But in both cases, it's obvious that the real causes are quite different (WW1, an emergent Germany as the only major European nation without colonies - the protests, general anger at the West that needs only the tiniest fuse to set it off).

I think you're confusing society and religion. The religion doesn't support these actions, but the society in which the religion is most prevailant is unfortunately rather volatile.

Ok, that makes sense.

So, what was the RoP's reasons for rioting over a stick figure?

Interesting quote from the aforementioned link:

Criticism and questioning were forbidden. When I did either of these, I was told: "Muslims cannot love the enemies of God, and those who do will get no mercy in hell." As a young woman, I visited a Christian friend in Cairo during Friday prayers, and we both heard the verbal attacks on Christians and Jews from the loudspeakers outside the mosque. They said: "May God destroy the infidels and the Jews, the enemies of God. We are not to befriend them or make treaties with them." We heard worshippers respond "Amen".

My friend looked scared; I was ashamed. That was when I first realised that something was very wrong in the way my religion was taught and practised. Sadly, the way I was raised was not unique. Hundreds of millions of other Muslims also have been raised with the same hatred of the West and Israel as a way to distract from the failings of their leaders. Things have not changed since I was a little girl in the 1950s.

I shall throw rocks and burn down buildin... wait. Nope don't give a shiat. Seems like Muslims freak out like no other.

Esn: Things have not changed since I was a little girl in the 1950s.

When I cutted and pasted that link, I got the IFIA. The only way things will get better is for "moderate" muslims (if there is such a thing) to start taking thier religon back.

Change must come from within.
