Important: You must be the original photographer of your entry. Do not submit anyone else's photography as your own.

You are only allowed to enter a photograph once. Do not submit the same photo to another contest later.

Up to 3 photos can be entered into each contest, as long as each photo is of a different subject/composition. No multiple photos of your subject at different angles or composition. Please post each photo separately so they can be voted for individually.

*Please, keep your entries under 50kb*

see EvilToni's page for how-to

Ideally, your photograph should be presented as taken, with as little alteration in Photoshop or other image editing programs as possible. Please refer to submission rules

Legal: All photographers submitting photos to this contest are the legal copyright holders for the photos submitted and the photos are not to be considered free for any other use without written consent from the submitting photographers.

To ensure that each photograph looks as good as it should, please adjust your contrast and brightness
so that each of the following shades of gray are distinct from one another and that the transition
from black to white is evenly paced. If you can't do so, you may lose some shadow and highlight detail.

BTW, if my "Cans" entry is too far outside the bounds of what the organizers would consider "still life", I'd be glad to let the mods delete it or take off the voting. I was trying to be a bit ironic with it, given contemporary times and the suggestion to "modernize" for the contest. :)

It's weird how certain things work with film. One time I put a couple of rolls of film through the wash (completely forgot they were in the pockets). It had some neat effects on the negatives.

/ Think this kind of stuff can only be pulled off with B&W though

chakalakasp: I'm curious what lens you're using Captain Jim

Both of them were with a Sigma 28-105mm with a +1 diopter Tiffen close-up filter shot at F2.8 I believe. I don't know what the focal length was, just what ever looked good. I was problably 3-4'away with a Sigma SD10 which has a 1.7 image multiplyer(sp)

Curious: CaptainJim you do nice work

Thank you very much

veruca:
As far as I'm concerned anything goes and the interpretation is up to the artist :) I stick by what I said last night - if the artist felt comfortable submitting a particular photo for this theme then that's what they chose. It was all kind of up to personal interpretation.

Appreciate the kind word. The halo was one of the things I didn't like, but didn't have time to go back and redo. I realize upon reflection (heh) that I put most of my thought into subject matter and very little into composition, which is why I'm not terribly happy with it. Seems that a few people like it, though, so who am I to complain?

I'm not so good at the 4x4 Rubik's.

veruca:
As far as I'm concerned anything goes and the interpretation is up to the artist :)

Not at all. An artist cannot paint a landscape with thick oily strokes and then call it pointillism, or take a color photo and call it black and white. There are very specific categories of art. Anything mobile does not count as "still-life".

However, the title of the Farktography is "Modern Day Still Life" which leaves a lot open to interpretation. Modern Life is hardly "still" and many of these pieces, could conceivably be a shot in the mouth to this title. Therefore, I have no problems with the controversial shots in this thread. So long as they aren't trying to redefine a specific art form.

HansBlix: That's toxic algae at a local lake. There were signs everywhere telling people not to go swimming in it, as if they needed discouragement. :) Oddly enough, as I was leaving, a group of morons were stripping down to their swimsuits.
