Funny pictures of Jesus = A few nasty letters and phone calls
Funny pictures of Mohammed = Men with guns at your office

What a weak argument for "blasphemous Jesus pictures". Kanye as Jesus is really that bad? C'mon...

Boy, those Muslims are some touchy mu'frkkers, ain't they?

Nice of Malkin to do a column where people can see the cartoons. Maybe she'll be visited by some nice men in turbans who wish to discuss the issue. Then again, maybe she's too busy building a dam.

Michelle Malkin: Crazy in the head = crazy in bed

As a tax and spend left wing pinko commie, I'd love to have a three way with her and Condi Rice.

Why would Sikhs want to batter Ms. Malkin? Well, other than the obvious reasons? I thought Muslims were supposed to be getting mad at her?

I never thought I'd find myself saying this, and I'll deny it if anyone ever brings it up again, but Michelle Malkin has a point.

/I just threw up in my mouth a little bit typing that.

It's because they hate Jesus.

/... duh

No where in the X-tian faith, unlike Islam, is there a stated prohibition against visual representations of the major players. Look at all of Islamic art, no people. Ms. Malkin needs a clue.

Uh, I beg to differ. Ever read the Ten Commandments?

You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them; for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Ok I finally saw the cartoons and I have to say THATS IT?

That guy could't get hired by MAD magazine as an artist.

So, no crucifixes...

Steve Dallas: So, no crucifixes...

Correctamundo! Check out the big brain on Steve Dallas.

I used to have a friend who was a Jehova's Witness - she thought crucifixes were an affront. She used to ask if my father was killed by a Mack Truck, would I wear a bull bar around my neck? I used to say yes. Never did sleep with her...

I could have sworn I wrote X-tian, not Judaism. Unless you're another very confused X-tian.

I think the difference is that one of the tennants of Islam is to not draw Allah, whereas Christianity has no such "rule".

Nope. Atheist, educated Church of England. We love the Old Testament so much we all get circumcised still.

There's a reason Bibles have both Testaments. It's not to make the book thicker.

It's not only OK, but necessary to bash the majority (Christianity), but prejudiced and tasteless when done towards a minority (Islam).

(In the US. Opposite logic occurs everywhere else)

I wonder sometimes if Christianity IS truly the majority!

Seriously, tho, the muslims need to chill. Send 'em all to Allah so we don't have to hear about this crap all the time!

If you get this much into a frenzy over someone satirizing your religion, I don't want you in heaven.

When will Christians realize that their modern day "persecution" is a direct result of their compulsive need to wear their faith on their sleeve? My guess in never.

Maybe if you instead remained humble and kept it to yourself as Jesus suggested, you wouldn't make yourselves and your religion such a target for vitriol.

I'm not saying it's right, but it's reality. That's life.

2006-02-03 10:21:28 AM
What if it was a picture of Jesus firebombing a mosque? Somehow I don't think that would fly on CNN.

milk_plus: What if it was a picture of Jesus firebombing a mosque? Somehow I don't think that would fly on CNN.

That would never happen. Jesus only firebombs abortion clinics, silly!

2006-02-03 10:25:41 AM
That would be awesome. A paper in the US should do a cartoon depicting Bush as Jesus Christ stabbing an old lady with a bayonet, to symbolize medicare funding cuts or something. The hypocracy displayed thereafter would be delicious.

Being outwardly religious in social settings does tend to make people uncomfortable. We've all known those people, I call them "Flaming Christians", who are all the time saying "praise the lord", or making other Jesusy comments in otherwise ordinary conversations. It's awkward for the non-christians who have to share the same space. My wife works with a guy who is like that. He always seems to have that glazed Christian look in his eye that's kind of creepy as well.

What worries me about outspoken Christians is their interest in politics and government, and the "changing of laws" which ensues.

The amazing thing about this perceived persecution is the extent to which they think it occurs. They've got some serious insecurities. Then again, I would too if I worshipped Santa Clause

""Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different...More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history."

<vocabulary nazism>
It's tennet, not tennant
</vocabulary nazism>

In general, christianity is a little more flexible on that topic, even though the same First Commandment applies, as long as you don't adore the icon itself, you're ok with paintings and statues.

Yes, but if you understand Christianity, I do, I went to a Christian College and was required to take Courses on Christian Beliefs, you would know that the New Testament Trumps the Old, and the Old works as kind of an enlightened history of where we came from.

The Ten Commandments are trumped by Christ's Commandments: Love thy Neighbor as thyself, hold Faith, Hope, and Love, etc...

But seriously, the iconic things is out the window for Christians. As for Muslims, well nope, they still have an issue.

like malcy said, if you thought that there was a real chance of having your offices blown up, you'd respect the hell out of Islam too!

Your argument as to why CNN's position is a valid one in light of what is going on in European press's decision to report on the controversy has convinced me to agree with you and your side of the agrument.

Well done, sgt.baker. You are a shining example for Democrats everywhere!

It's a good thing nobody mocks Joseph Smith.
