yet still the conservative nut jobs are going to say the "Liberal" media is hurting are national security, but we never hear the true death toll of Iraq civilains, or other "liberal" stories that are covered up.

2006-01-28 2:47:28 PM
We have to censor the news.

The facts hate America.

2006-01-28 2:53:12 PM
This should be a big thread later tonight.....

2006-01-28 2:57:35 PM
7. Journalists Face Unprecedented Dangers to Life and Livelihood

Dang! If only they had some form of access to the media. They need to find some way to get their story told.

2006-01-28 3:00:41 PM
The government doesn't like to tell us things that embarass them...good to know

2006-01-28 3:06:52 PM
Fark is the pawn of the LIEberal media!

2006-01-28 3:09:00 PM
And the fact that these and other stories like them are readily available in publications like the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Information Management Journal, Jane's Foreign Report, and Harper's proves it!

2006-01-28 3:12:07 PM
I dunno about this list. Seems rather slanted. Someone else puts out a much better list of under-reported stories, but I can't remember who they were. And I wouldn't call these stories "censored," just under-reported (ie, The Man isn't blocking publication, it's just a complacent media, disinterested in boring topics).

#3. Distorted Election Coverage

Well, this entire thread is now going to erupt into a flamewar.

#5. U.S. Uses Tsunami to Military Advantage in Southeast Asia

This seems a little tin-foil hattish to me. Even if they did, so what?

#7. Journalists Face Unprecedented Dangers to Life and Livelihood

Meh. I think this has been fairly well covered.

I didn't even bother with the last 15 stories.

2006-01-28 3:12:55 PM
What's Fox News take on this?

2006-01-28 3:18:14 PM
also... Bush is still President and the GOP still controls congress.

when you come back with "oh but maybe not after the next election"

1. Maybe
2. Supreme Court

/laters.

2006-01-28 3:31:33 PM
Wait! Gahbrone, come back! You dropped one of your GOP pompoms!

2006-01-28 3:32:19 PM
This should be the number one story everywhere but the media essentially ignored it because the thought that a presidential election could be so easily rigged is unthinkable to most people.

2006-01-28 3:48:36 PM
Yeah, whatever.

Any updates on Natalee Holloway?

2006-01-28 3:52:53 PM
You know what I find is the most interesting about the internet? That I could start a website that counters all those claims, create sources out of thin air and within a week it would be quoted as fact in thousands of arguments and could quite possibly make it into the real world through lazy reporting or even lazier fact checkers for radio shows.

2006-01-28 4:00:31 PM
That whole website seems a little more than slanted. More like the titantic slipping into the ocean. Not a SINGLE conservative tin-foil hat story is in there... Like oh say Able Danger.... Therefore it gets ignored. Fervent partisinship = ignoring reality = destroyed credibility

2006-01-28 4:05:37 PM
Wow, spent some time rooting around their site.... What a load of crap... it's spun so hard it makes my head spin like a top... It's a good thing CIA imposters haven't cut it off in the name of "Islam"...

2006-01-28 4:06:25 PM
Not that I agree with all 25 on the list, but I love how the only counter-argument so far has been an attack on the source.

2006-01-28 4:07:44 PM
yeah, b/c the source doesn't matter.

The article failed to mention when this news broke.

So the 26th story was the bias on that website? Must have been, 'cause I didn't see it listed.

2006-01-28 4:39:18 PM
I love how they use the big, scary term "CENSORED!" but then explain in the introduction:

Project Censored specializes in covering the top news stories which were either ignored or downplayed by the mainstream media each year.

So... it was censored... by the so-called "mainstream media". Not the government. But, but, I thought the mainstream media hates Bush!!!

Must have me on ignore.

Considering the only one of the outlets you mentioned I've ever even heard of is Harper's, I assumed you were being sarcastic.

I was. Perhpas this would explain it better:

I found in traveling around the world that a great many people . . ., apparently well educated and sophisticated, were convinced that the people of the United States were in the grip of terror and that free speech and free press no longer existed here. They believed that the United States was fomenting a third world war and would presently start it, with Armageddon consequences for everyone else, and that the government of the United States smashed without mercy anyone who dared to oppose even by oral protests this headlong rush toward disaster.

These people could "prove" their opinions by quoting any number of Americans and American newspapers and magazines. That they were able to quote such American sources proved just the opposite, namely that we do continue to enjoy free speech even to express arrant nonsense and unpopular opinion, escaped them completely.

Ah, I see. Well we're in agreement there. "Censored" is not the appropriate word. I was more addressing the people dismissing the actual listed stories because of the source.

What is so wrong with that? I'm sure if president bush came out tomorrow and said we were winning the war in Iraq and the Iraqi's loved us all you would immediately dismiss the information solely by it's source...

Uh.. no. I would dismiss it based on both the unlikely probability of such a thing even happening, and the mountains of evidence to the contrary.

"PETA Blocks" Wicked Red Meat Fighting System?

2006-01-28 6:02:00 PM
I think that's the top 25 stupid conspiracy theory rants.

2006-01-28 6:05:02 PM
You know, this story is more one-sided than a two-sided quarter.

Well, it is.

also when will the gubment grow up and stop fighting like little kids? You have one guess.

2006-01-28 6:05:34 PM
This one has been censored for too long.

The truth hurts.

2006-01-28 6:06:32 PM
in this day and age if you are not aware of what is going on in the world then you should go back to your cave

2006-01-28 6:06:47 PM
Should be titled "Top 25 left-wing conspiracy theories the media actually didn't buy into."

2006-01-28 6:07:36 PM
What!!!! A fark link to a LIBERAL NEWS SITE was actually approved!

Now I've seen everything.

2006-01-28 6:07:40 PM
HAHA!

There's a picture of that article in the dictionary under the word 'bias'.

Heh! That's the idea!

2006-01-28 6:08:14 PM
This article/list leads me to belive that all Americans should take themselves out to save the world and the ecosystem because our country is terrible and that it's all Bush's fault. Did I miss the memo? Am I close?

2006-01-28 6:08:22 PM
"'Exit polls are highly accurate,' wrote Professor Steve Freeman"
Like the exit polls in palestine that predicted Hamas getting only 42% of the vote?
It's ridiculous that they'd accuse Bush and the electronic voting people of being in cahoots. I can't stand Bush, mostly because of his BS, but I have equal disdain for BS from his critics.

2006-01-28 6:09:43 PM
Wow... a story marked "25 most censored news stories of '05" and every single one of them just so happens to be a news story that would put the USA in a bad light. I could see 5, maybe even 10 putting the US in a bad light, but at least throw in some fluff to keep me guessing. Otherwise it just looks like you're a loon.

26. The government has developed a special mind control ray that permeates tin foil, the technology runs on baby seals, and your taxes are paying for it.

2006-01-28 6:11:24 PM
Good to see some nice, unbiased news coverage these days.

That's because it doesn't take a whole lot of thinking to figure out it's self contradicting. If they're putting it up, it's obviously not censored. They seem more upset that people just snicker and ignore baseless conspiracy theories that they blindly accept because it falls in line with their politics.

2006-01-28 6:13:03 PM
funny... my link bashing democrats didn't get approved, yet THIS clearly objective claptrap does. WHAT A SHOCKER.

2006-01-28 6:13:23 PM
Hey everyone who's saying that it's "slanted"- it's also 100% true.

I'm sorry if this seems like "liberal" bias, but sooner or later you're all just going to have to face the fact that sometimes the liberals are just flat-out right.

CreamFilling: 26. The government has developed a special mind control ray that permeates tin foil, the technology runs on baby seals, and your taxes are paying for it.

That's not how they do it. They bond mind controlling compounds to flouride before adding it to tap water. If you just started shooting a mind control ray around, people would see it.

- This is a one sided propaganda piece that is simply geared to promote a left-wing agenda.

I like this article because there is absolutely no liberal bias and there is supporting evidence for each of their claims.
