2006-01-03 1:20:32 PM
oh this is going to get so nice. I can't wait to see people fall. It's nice to know that hopefully at least a few of the corrupt politicians out there might be getting what is coming to them soon.
2006-01-03 1:20:48 PM
For every congressperson who gets indicted based on Jack Abramoff's testimony, you have to take a drink.
2006-01-03 1:20:52 PM
The more of the cocksuckers in D.C. we can lock up, the better off we'll be.
2006-01-03 1:21:12 PM
haha oh wow
2006-01-03 1:21:16 PM
submitter: "something stinky"

WAS "poo" before the change.

Headline ranks now as: 'kinda funny.'
2006-01-03 1:21:36 PM
I can't wait to hear how Clinton gets linked to this story.
2006-01-03 1:21:37 PM
Hell yeah! There's nothing more pleasurable than watching corrupt government officials get their comeuppance.
2006-01-03 1:22:00 PM
nice headline.
2006-01-03 1:22:22 PM
Just half-a-dozen are being looked at? I hope Abramoff's deal isn't -too- sweet.
2006-01-03 1:23:01 PM
Damn- I was saving this old article for this thread but I already blew my wad in the NEA thread:

"Everybody is lying," Abramoff told a former colleague. There are e-mails and records that will implicate others, he said. He was noticeably caustic about House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. For years, nobody on Washington's K Street corridor was closer to DeLay than Abramoff. They were an unlikely duo. DeLay, a conservative Christian, and Abramoff, an Orthodox Jew, traveled the world together and golfed the finest courses. Abramoff raised hundreds of thousands for DeLay's political causes and hired DeLay's aides, or kicked them business, when they left his employ. But now DeLay, too, has problemsin part because of overseas trips allegedly paid for by Abramoff's clients. In response, DeLay and his aides have said repeatedly they were unaware of Abramoff's behind-the-scenes financing role. "Those S.O.B.s," Abramoff said last week about DeLay and his staffers, according to his luncheon companion. "DeLay knew everything. He knew all the details."

Might as well post it anyway.

Reminded me of these lyrics from the late Warren Zevon:

Now I'm hiding in Honduras
I'm a desperate man
Send lawyers, guns and money
The shiat has hit the fan

Anyone got that Bruce McCollugh (Kids In The Hall) billboard with the bowl of poo up neck high?
2006-01-03 1:23:37 PM
here it comes, can't wait to put this in my comic
(see homepage)
2006-01-03 1:23:37 PM
Don't you people realize that if we were to suddently start being honest in our government the whole system would shut down and we'd be left in anarchy? Stop the corruption, you dumb bastards.
2006-01-03 1:24:18 PM
This is going to make life much more difficult for those of us in the lobbying business who aren't corrupt asshats. Abramoff should get a one-way ticket to pound-you-in-the-ass prison, where he belongs.

I know it's wasted effort, but I have to point out the vast majority of lobbyists out there aren't like Abramoff. We don't bribe people, we don't create issues to lobby against, we don't run around spending other people's money like its our own.

This guy needs to go to jail, and I wish I could be on the jury that nails his ass.
2006-01-03 1:24:27 PM
Another politically motivated media circus. A complete waste of manpower, newsprint, information. Not to mention the liberal bias.

This is a non-issue. Another example of how the media at large oversteps its mission statement to report the news at a time that no real news is happening.
2006-01-03 1:24:31 PM

I can't wait to hear how Clinton gets linked to this story.

1. Abramoff is a Jew
2. Monica Lewinsky is a Jew
3. All Jews are part of the same, money-hungry Zionist conspiracy

Therefore, Clinton got a knob shine from Abramoff by proxy.

anyone else notice the useless joke anchor conveniently added to the link? hmmmm, a little spin maybe????

thankfully, tis no joke. comeuppances anyone?
2006-01-03 1:25:22 PM
There must be quite a lot of hand-wringing in Washington today. 2006 is looking very good for the Dems. Bush is a lame duck even with his allies in control of both houses - just wait till after the elections.

Lobbyist A would use those funds for their own personal benefit and not for the benefit of their clients."

I don't know what's going to happen man, but I want
to have my kicks before the whole shiat house goes up in flames
2006-01-03 1:26:03 PM
Hey guys, take a breath.

If he was prosecuted in a way that threatened real jail time, of course he would want to bring everyone down with him. the "deal" is that he doesn't go to jail and he doesn't say anything that would result in anyone else going to jail.

I remember my first political snipe hunt, you'll enjoy yours and come out wiser too.
2006-01-03 1:26:30 PM
It's not mentioned in this article, but I've heard that Montana senator Conrad Burns may also get burned by Abramoff. I can't wait.

/Don't even live in Montana anymore.
2006-01-03 1:26:38 PM
Lobbyist and Congress engaging in illegal activites?

That's unpossible.

Broktun | Hang them high.
2006-01-03 1:26:47 PM
The items listed include a "lavish" trip to Scotland to play golf, tickets to sporting events and campaign contributions to the representative and his political action committee in exchange for a series of actions by that representative.

Wow, talk about selling yourself short. Unless those contributions totaled more than 1mill, to ruin your career over sporting tix and a trip? looser.

Odd that the investigation only involves GOP members? Why?
2006-01-03 1:27:07 PM
Although these days it appears there are more corrupt Republicans than Dems (I'm looking at you, DeLay), I'm more of the opinion that it'd be better to get rid of them all and start over.
2006-01-03 1:27:32 PM
i knew there was a "clinton got a bj" connection here somewhere...
2006-01-03 1:27:40 PM
i bet that no one does any time over this. aren't our politicians great?
2006-01-03 1:27:44 PM
I didn't think you could fit the entire legislative branch in a bucket.
2006-01-03 1:28:30 PM
any truth to the rumor that this guy paid al gore to invent the internet?
2006-01-03 1:28:38 PM
These two
links should be useful for this thread.
2006-01-03 1:30:30 PM
Its not that there are more corrupt Republicans than there are corrupt Democrats. There are corrupt politicians in both parties. Abramoff gave to whomever he thought could help him. But the fact is, you're going to see more Republicans taking bribes now. Why try and bribe a Democrat now? They don't have any power. They don't control the House, the Senate or the White House.

You don't try and bribe someone who can do nothing for you.

I'm more than willing to play the punching bag as a lobbyist farker - hell, no different than what I get from my friends anyway. :)

Because it had to be posted eventually:

[image from too old to be available]

K street (although that project is already languishing), DeLay, Santorum, Frist, Abramoff, and the entire GOP leadership is in for some rough times.

Now, which talking head will try to use the "criminalizing politics" talking points first?
