See, we need to go back to the days of good easter eggs. Remember the old flight sim game and DOOM style game in Office 97?

I know the TiVo one by heart: Select, Play, Select, 3, 0, Select = 30 second skip button enabled!

Abudiwa: wait a minute... how many farkers have a lexus?

We all do. Alongside a lifetimes supply of alcohol and hookers. Didn't you get the email?

BMW has a well known button that says "Launch" beside the shifter in their faster cars. $10 bucks says an M5 or M6 in launch mode will smoke a lexus in cheat mode.

Pooter: My car has buttons that make the windows go up and down. So there.

Mine did. Until this afternoon, when a bloke in a white van thought it - and me - would make a good accordian impression.

I thought you would type a 'tilda' and then "Elvis" in the car's command line to go into 'God mode.'

I have a device under my hood that enables a similar effect, I just have to press the gas pedal to activate it.

2005-11-18 3:04:35 PM
Okay, I'm gonna have to call shenanigans on this.

This sounds a lot like those crosswalk button "cheat codes" that were the stuff of urban legends some years back.

Either that, or it activates the self-destruct.

Either way, it should make for some jolly good fun.

I vaguely remember seeing something about US versions of the M3 having it too.

I remember the good old days. I had a black Camaro Berlinetta with a 400 small block and a massive 4 barrel carb, and I didn't need to mess with some funky computer to lay rubber.

Now they've got all these fancy 4 cylinders with fuel injection and dual overhead cams. These kids today wouldn't know how to tune a carburetor if they had to. Hhmmph.

2005-11-18 3:33:02 PM
Sorry, that should have been fancy 4 cylinders and fuel injection and dual overhead cams. I don't know of a 4 cylinder in a car with DOC.

2005-11-18 3:41:11 PM
Big deal. My 86' LeBaron can do the same thing.

AND it looks pink at certain times of the day.

rock on.

Is this the shiatty little Lexus that's like 30 grand?

/who cares?

2005-11-18 3:43:57 PM
Awesome; anytime you are ready to spend 3 to 5 hundred bucks on new tires, enter the cheat code and peel away!

Epsilon: I don't know of a 4 cylinder in a car with DOC.

1974 Alfa Romeo Spider...4 cylinder, DOHC, mechanical fuel injection, NO computer...smoked a riced-out '06 Eclipse off the line.

"Some European BMWs have a similar feature."

I think you are thinking of launch control. Sounds like this lexus thing just turns off traction control (don't know why there isn't just a button that does this like every other car).

2005-11-18 3:45:36 PM
Considering how "locked down" the Japanese makers like Lexus and Infiniti keep their cars' stability/control systems, I'd be surprised if some noob doesn't end up farking themselves up or their car.

A bunch of 4 cylinders have FI and DOHC:
Toyota Corolla S, Toyota Celica, Honda Civic SI, Acura Integra/RSX, etc...

Front-wheel burn outs? Almost impressive as burnouts on gravel and ice!

Thats no cheat, the owners maunal(which no one ever reads) tells you all of that stuff. there wouldn't be a light for it if it was an easter egg. alot of cars have that in a button for getting out of snow and stuff.

2005-11-18 3:47:46 PM
It's not a cheat code or easter egg. Mechanics need to do this in order to diagnose driveability complaints.

2005-11-18 3:47:50 PM
Psst...Don't push the big red button that says, "Do Not Push" on the Lexus IS. Totally an ejector seat. I shiat you not.

2005-11-18 3:48:19 PM
Lexus has some funky codes to program things.

Their codes to program a new key is about ten steps where you feel like you are pushing every damn button in the car.

I am pretty sure my IS300 has a traction control off button.

2005-11-18 3:48:51 PM
Tons of 4cyl have DOHC. I think more do now than don't. Hell even a ford focus has DOHC if you have the 2.0L Zetec Engine.

2005-11-18 3:49:37 PM
massive peel-outs!?!?!? what the hell has happened to fark? next someone will post a story about how to sneak a beer out of the house when mommy and daddy are not looking!

My buddy's Lexus IS 300 (early 2000's model year) has a traction control button allowing him to peel out.

I couldn't tell from the article if this was just for automatic transmissions (somewhat implied). Or perhaps there's a difference between Canadian and American models, as his traction control appears to be intended for winter driving.

My POS 97 neon has 4 cylinders and a DOHC.
