I, for one, am disappointed that there are no Zulu to nuke.

That's hilarious. I didn't buy anything else with my Civ4 purchase, though.

That's, like, the best thing I've seen almost ever.

Ha! Ha! I am amused by this link.

I would be more amused if my Christmas wish for this came true...the game, not the books. I have the books already.

The more I play Civ4 the more I am getting into it - I guess the real measure will be when I go back and try to play Civ3

*eagerly awaits the flamewar over the fact that the main 'world' theme is the Our Father in Swahili ('Baba Yetu')*

C'mon, people!

It is obvious proof of the overwhelming wonder of Jesus!
It shows that all smart people think of Christianity as 'just another anthropological study'!

That's a lot of shiat. I have been playing that evil game since 1995, and I am neither Asian nor gay. But tired. Oh God yes I am tried.

It is? Its awesome whatever it is. I love the music. There are so many more variables now. Has anyone completely figured out how the religious thing works in this ed?

Heehee, Faethe, I know, it rocks. The main theme can be gotten here until the link farks out.

Religion works like this:
- All Religion Same.
- You Religion = Their Religion, positive Relation Points.
- You Religion != Their Religion, negative Relation Points.
- You makea Monastery (for Culture).
- You makea Missionary.
- You senda Missionary to you other town, and pop to spread religion.
- Each different religion in town makea happy happy for 'Free Religion' Civic, FTW.

How to attract Asian women? In my experience it's easy... just be a white guy in an Asian country. Preferably American.

Hmm ...

Amazon is getting pretty scary. I have to be really careful which item I look at. THey keep track of it all and it comes to haunt you.

So, check this out

That's great.

Of course I think anybody would be sex deprived after playing Civ 4. I have to purposely not play games on nights I need sleep, or else I'm not getting any.

Freakin' addictive, it is.
2005-11-10 11:28:32 AM
I'd like to play..but I have glitches that can;t seem to be resolved. I get a blue screen instead of developrer intors. I have to click my mouse to see the world, but get no selection menus.
2005-11-10 11:28:46 AM
The religion thing is interesting addition, however I still find that the game devolves into a who can get the stealth bombers first once you reach the modern age.

Once you have those puppies and nukes, it's game over since the mobi inft can just roll into each city one after the other.

I would like to get this game, except for the fact that everyone keeps saying they play 6 hours a day. I don't have that kind of time on my hands anymore.
2005-11-10 11:29:05 AM
When I was in college in the dorms, there was a room next to me constantly full of Korean dudes crowded around a video game (Final fantasy, I think). There would be 7 or 8 of em watchin one dude and my friends would always be looking for the party, looking for girls, doing stuff, what not. Every time I walked by that room (friday night, saturday night, whenever) there they were. Geekin out.
Those dudes probably still have never gotten laid.
2005-11-10 11:29:09 AM

Yah, my buddy worked in Japan for a while and was feeling a tad lonely, so he went to some kind of 'Meet a Westerner' party. It seemed innocent at first, but ultimatley it seemed like hideous old western men were using it as a way to cop off with young attractive Japanese girls.

Anyway, it seems pretty unsavoury to me. I get the impression a lot of people visit countries just cause they will get lots of loving, but it seems kind of grimy to me.

Sex tourism, thats the one.
2005-11-10 11:29:59 AM
When refering to guys of any race or colour, the `sex-deprived'
adjective is a foregone conclusion.

If you have an ATI card there is an issue with ATI. However there is a homebrew fix out already which forces you to depak the graphics pak and repack them with ATI friendly textures.

It's floating out on the net at the moment... currently in at the moment.

Yeah I totally hear you. OK so the thing is you have to try to convert everyone to whatever your state religion is? You see now when you trade with people - you have like two new buttons - convert and something else. Every notice people try to get you to convert too? You develope free religion and it doesn't matter anymore - I think. I don't know. Ever try to win a United Nations victory? Its a lot more complicated now. Free religion is one of the civics you try to get everyone to adapt.

Man. This game makes my head hurt.
2005-11-10 11:31:43 AM
Why is the "Search Inside!" arrow pointing to her head? Are we supposed to open up Asian women's heads to attract them?

OK this is what happened. Something is farked up with the way the thing installs direct x 9 or something. You need to go to appolyton to get this unfarked. There is no patch right now.

Go here

Spread this link around. It includes an official thingee to get rid of the render error. Follow the instructions and it works beautifully. Its a big ass game though - it hogs resources and if you like to play huge maps, it does slow down. NOT nearly as bad as prior editions, but its amazing big still.

Well fricken done!

Ahhh, back to the amiga/C64 days...
2005-11-10 11:41:54 AM

Well I for one have been unable to EVEN LOAD the game despite my system exceeding all the requirements. After 30+ calls to Take 2 support, I was told that the problem was with my sound card and that I needed a new one. When I explained that was not an option because this was a Laptop, I was told "Wait for a patch"

I'm so glad I pre ordered so I have a nicer looking paperweight.
2005-11-10 11:43:21 AM
I think I'll just sit tight with Civ III for now.

From the sound of the comments, there are far, far, far too many bugs to work through to make this game an enjoyable experience.

Thank you early adopters! Your beta-testing sacrifice will be appreciated by my seamless gameplay in March.
2005-11-10 11:45:52 AM

faethe: What are these bugs you speak of? Bullshiat. This is the best ed of Civ ever. Period.

It's the most recent line in a series that has gone downhill since Civ2. Period. Go look in the forums of CivFanatics for the bug and technical issues. I'm only able to play the game by installing 3rd party software to manually set DirectX graphic levels. Even then the game is slow. And yes, I'm well above even the "recommended" computer requirements.

The problems with this game were obvious and should have been fixed before the game was released at $50. Help from Take2 and Firaxis have been nonexistent.

The developers had a chance to do something great here and instead decided to make an AoE or RoN clone. They confused quantity with depth and flash with substance. Add in an expansion pack and knock the price to $35 (as will happen within 6 months) and you may have a good game. But if you buy Civ4 now you're just playing to beta test.

My strategy involves never having free religion. I attempt to found as many religions as I can and pick one (usually the one with the best capital). Then you make friends with most other AI players, open borders, and bombard them with missionaries. Every religion gets a building that gives +1 gold per city in the world that carries that religion. Once roughly 2/3 of their cities are your religion, they convert to your religion. Major + points.

The major thing I don't like is that 1 refusal to an AI is a major set back, e.g., if you don't give someone a technology or a trade resource, you get major - points ("-2 You didn't help us"). Next turn you could give them a hundred gold, 2 technologies, and tons of resources. It doesn't take away the -2 and your + for "positive trade relations" doesn't come until many, many turns later. farkers.
