ignoramus: This is one of my favorite illusions of all time

Whoa. Freaky. The dragon is amazing!
2005-10-10 08:12:50 PM
not new. this thing is one every stoners wall in america
2005-10-10 08:13:26 PM

Never thought about that, but youre probably right! On that website, you can buy an Einstein bust, but you must pay in GBP.

Yeah, I like the dragon too. Check the main page (grand-illusions.com) for a bunch of other neat stuff. I like these guys because they base their illusions on science (mostly psychology and physics), and make your eyes bleed.

As I was focusing in on one of those torture devices, a fly swooped into my field of vision and flew toward me from roughly the middle of the design.

/oh, hell yes I jumped out of my seat.

The first one seemed to be moving, until I fixed on one spot. After that, my eye seemed to automatically fixate on one spot, even when I tried to keep it from doing so, and none of them appeared to move. Well, a few, a little, but nothing to make me reach for the barf-bags I keep in my desk for internet moments.

Illusions aren't optical: they are in your mind.
2005-10-10 08:22:13 PM
dude, those lines are totally moving. its like they move a little but they really dont. then again i just got done with a game of hacky-scack and we've been ripping on my fat 12" bubbler.
2005-10-10 08:25:54 PM
Anyone else notice that after you watch Just Ignorant's almond illusion and as you scroll down in order to read the rest of the thread, the almonds appear to move?

Not just relatively up/down on the screen, but they appear to rotate even with respect to the point on the HTML page on which they are located.

/grammar surrenders
//yes, I know that confirming this observation involves actually reading the thread, which is antithetical to Usenet and/or Intarweb protocol

2005-10-10 08:34:26 PM

2005-10-10 08:34:52 PM

foxrox: optical illusions were planted here by god to test our faith

May I interest you in the Church of Last Thursdayism?
I have reason to beleive we were all created last thursday.
Any evidence to the contrary such as memories, scars and dinosaur bones were place here to test our faith in god.

I suggest you join unless you wish to face eternal damnation. I feel it is my divine obligation to save as many people from a horrible and painful afterlife and as such I am trying to convert everyone to Last Thursdayism. Won't you please join?
2005-10-10 08:46:05 PM

I can't make out the friggen boat either. Did you crop the image?
2005-10-10 08:46:12 PM
All that bobbing towards and away from the monitor gave me the creepy feeling that I was giving head to my computer.
2005-10-10 08:47:34 PM
- Oh yeah, look it's a sailboat.
- You saw it, too?! Damn it!
- What?
- I've been staring at this thing for a week now--from opening 'til closing--and I can't see a Goddamn thing!

/Aaaah. I love the smell of commerce in the morning.

I used to have "rotating snakes" as my desktop. Not good when you have a hangover.
2005-10-10 08:50:32 PM
i used to have a screensaver type thing that looked like some of those. it would spin around these spiral things. if stared into it for about ten seconds then stared at something else it would look like it was growing. it was pretty trippy.

i spent way to much time in college staring at that thing.
2005-10-10 09:00:00 PM
The dragon illusion is really cool. There is a site where you can print out the dragon and fold the paper to make the illusion. Close one eye and move around, the head will follow you.

2005-10-10 09:35:13 PM
2.72 MB x 15,000 clicks = 40,800... sorry that got cut out somehow
2005-10-10 09:43:41 PM
So if you ARE on LSD and you look at these what happens? The pinwheel is awesome BTW.
2005-10-10 09:51:53 PM
Ok so the boats rotate but the sheep don't... what gives?

//so disturbed that I'm about to call a neurologist
2005-10-10 10:09:53 PM
For the sheep to work you have to move your head around while looking at the cross in the center... most of the later illusions are like that.
2005-10-10 10:11:34 PM
By the way, be sure to scroll down on the submitted link.. I spent 10 minutes on the first image, not knowing there was a whole world of headaches to follow.
2005-10-10 10:13:02 PM
Scroll up and down slowly, some of them get trippier, trippyer? way more trippy.
2005-10-10 10:25:54 PM
The goggles they do nothing!

i think i'm blind after all that
2005-10-10 10:28:40 PM
Just Ignorant

ya know that image is a .gif

graphic interchange format has animation

my gigantic hax0r trouser trout has one of those too.
2005-10-10 10:42:07 PM

put your finger on one part of the picture and watch it not move.
2005-10-10 10:42:34 PM

yeah, i don't see a boat either. all i see is a woman with very large breasts dressed in very skimpy attire and positioned very provocatively. it's almost as if the sexual appeal of the woman in the photograph is rendering me unable to notice anything else in the same photograph, because i am so intensely aroused by looking at the woman.

i'd say that's more or less the gist of the situation here.
2005-10-10 10:53:42 PM

The real illusion is that that's a dude!

/Guess I shouldn't have stared at those almonds for so long!
2005-10-10 10:56:47 PM
look.... the little man in the boat....

Ow! Ow! My eyes!
2005-10-10 11:23:59 PM
That illusion is the one used in the Disney Haunted Mansion. IIRC, they patented that technique in the late '50s
2005-10-10 11:25:52 PM
/Does not work if you're drunk.
2005-10-10 11:32:38 PM

The Dragon Illusion is one you can print out and make yourself. It's an awesome thing to have on the desk. Watch the video, it's really impressive.
2005-10-11 12:05:34 AM
This is not a good thing for a pregnant woman to look at while she's eating spaghetti... ugh... my stomach...
2005-10-11 12:05:38 AM
Twirly, shmirly.

This is hands down the most amazing illusion ever. Guranteed to blow your mind. And yes, your monitor is working.
