Please. Don't liken us to some slutty blog.
2005-10-08 11:37:12 PM
Is this a blog?
2005-10-08 11:37:21 PM
I guess CNet doesn't know what a blog is. :sigh:
2005-10-08 11:39:11 PM
Fark made the blog list,

TotalFark doesn't qualify as a blog.
2005-10-08 11:39:30 PM
Well, we know that Fark is not a blog, and Totalfark, though closers, is still not a blog...but to other sites the internet consists of "Mainstream News Sites" and "Blogs" everything else on the internet is one of those two things.
2005-10-08 11:40:25 PM
Fark is what blogs would be like if they didn't suck.
2005-10-08 11:41:45 PM
I can't find their definition of blog in there anywhere.
2005-10-08 11:42:47 PM
It's not a blog, it's TotalBlog.
2005-10-08 11:42:53 PM
blog (blg) pronunciation

A weblog.
intr.v., blogged, blogging, blogs.

To write entries in, add material to, or maintain a weblog.
2005-10-08 11:48:46 PM
This is not a Blog, this is a news compendium...

Web Log = Blog
News Compendium = Scompendium?
2005-10-08 11:55:26 PM
Fark is not a blog!
2005-10-09 12:03:54 AM
bah. that list is jacked up. they include some blog called 'Jackwhispers' in their Mac section but not Drunkenblog? I mean, just compare the number of comments on each site.
2005-10-09 12:37:32 AM
It's not a blog, it's Ultrablo+++NO CARRIER+++

2005-10-09 12:53:16 AM
What's a 'blog'?
2005-10-09 01:12:39 AM
and for another thing, what ranking are we? i mean even though misclassified, we should at least be given a good numerical idea....

top 100....
2005-10-09 10:31:56 AM
I would never be associated with a blog. Blogs are for self involved narcissists who think people care about their bullshiat political views and daily routines. Call this an internet community or whatever happened to just a bbs or message board?

Hopefully this blog business is just a fad like when the web was first introduced and everyone had their own web page with a black background and personal stats in times new roman font with a few pictures and a counter.
2005-10-09 11:17:20 AM
I thought this was the Cat-Fancier chat room.
2005-10-09 01:03:29 PM
That's the trouble with being a pioneer. You get lumped in with all the pretenders.
2005-10-09 01:40:42 PM
So. Are congrats in order for making the list or sympathies in order for being labled as a blog?
2005-10-09 02:12:37 PM
Sorry guys, but Fark does fit the definition of a blog. It's open source media written by one or more people.
2005-10-09 02:16:02 PM
The headline shoulda been:

We just got called a blog by C|Net, but you know we aren't. Be sure to comment, and send us your trackbacks.
2005-10-09 03:13:28 PM
Yeah.. we're not a blog.

But we provide the news to FM radio morning shows

Sussman: Sorry guys, but Fark does fit the definition of a blog. It's open source media written by one or more people.

I've never heard that definition but if it was true then the term is meaningless. That describes almost anything on the net.

um, no a blog is a Web Log or journal... this is not a journal, it is just a collection of sites etc that are collected from many people.. doesn't tell the "opinion' of a person.
Just because most bloggers are idiots doesn't mean that every site that has idiots typing on it is a blog.

Sussman: Sorry guys, but Fark does fit the definition of a blog. It's open source media written by one or more people.

No, the comment threads fit that definition, but the threads aren't the main focus of Fark. According to Jeff in the question thread, probably 3 - 5% of people actually RTFT, and I'd guess even fewer comment in them. Fark - if it must be classified - is a links list. Or something.

Top Five Borgs:

5) Crosus
4) Hugh
3) Locutus
2) 7 of 9
1) The Borg Queen
2005-10-09 05:01:00 PM
Mugato: 1) The Borg Queen

7 of 9 is WAY sexier than the Borg Queen! She can assimilate me any day.

Also, well played.
2005-10-09 05:01:54 PM
Fark is what I'd classify as an edited, submission-driven news aggregator.

TotalFark is the same thing, just not edited.

Perhaps it's a forum.

SURVEY: who reads Maddox?

more importantly, does he read fark?

boy, oh boy, does he hate blogs tho.
2005-10-09 05:04:39 PM
As long as this doesn't cause websense to block fark, it's all good. But then again then don't filter slashdot at my work so go figure.

"Blogs are for self involved narcissists who think people care about their bullshiat political views and daily routines."

And Fark is for...?
2005-10-09 05:05:54 PM
Weblog Weblog, podcast. Remix social network. Ipod, Killer app. Podcast podblog. Vlog Vlog. Myspace RSS RSS. Nano Nano Nano.

/stop talking and say something
2005-10-09 05:06:41 PM
Fark isn't a blog...

I know blogs...I have a livejournal!!1!

/secret shame

RobbieFal: But we provide the news to FM radio morning shows

Not just the news, the jokes as well. That goes for a lot of TV talk shows too.
2005-10-09 05:08:24 PM
I thought blogs were mostly in Scotland.
2005-10-09 05:08:28 PM is a blog. is a blog. So is Fark.

I fail to see the big deal.

With as much traffic as it gets, would be impossible to ignore on the internet scene.
2005-10-09 05:17:17 PM
Generally, blogs are associated with one person doing everything, and other people coming to take a look at it. If the fact that there are "user" comments makes Fark a blog, than almost every website out there is a blog.

/not that theres anything wrong with that
//instead of it's not news, it should be...

Dear CNET,

/just sayin'
2005-10-09 05:42:49 PM
Shouldn't we all be typing about our weekend?
2005-10-09 05:44:32 PM
I think Fark is a blog.
2005-10-09 05:45:24 PM
Jeez, and I thought calling Drudge a blog was stupid, as it's mostly a bunch of linked stories.

But apparently, if that qualifies as a blog, then we must as well.
2005-10-09 05:51:01 PM
I love these theads nearly as much as the beer elitist threads.

Some FARKers think (s)he knows everything.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, talks like a duck, well guess what?
2005-10-09 05:53:39 PM
This isn't that difficult folks. Blog is short for web-log. Fark is indeed on the web but it's not logging the minutia of any one person's day to day life. Internet message boards have been around since the early 90's and no one ever called them blogs.
