I am soooooo glad that after the last blackout we fixed the nations power grid so nobody other than omarion would have to suffer through this.
2005-09-12 05:03:14 PM
Just got power back up here in Hollywood. The only real life-threatening damage? MySpace (hosted from Santa Monica) is still down! NOOOO!

meh, I thought it was funny, kangaroo_Ralph, and in keeping with the Fark squirrel with huge nuts kind of way.
2005-09-12 05:03:36 PM
Some DWP guy cut a cable by accident, so they did a "pro-active" power shutdown. big deal.
2005-09-12 05:03:59 PM
Back up in Studio City...power was down for maybe 1.5 hr at most (not exactly sure). Probably wasn't demand, as it's quite cool here and people aren't using the AC much. Sometimes blackouts happen for completely stupid reasons--reasons that have nothing to do with terrorism or power company shenanigans or anything of the sort.

Twitch OSX:t says a major power outtage in LA has taken their entire network offline (Dreamhost.com)

Well that's just shiat. They don't have backup power?

Ipowerweb.com hosts our e-mail here at work and several web sites I have built. All are now down. I'm glad I recommended them. No power backup? How can they call themselves a hosting company. For shame!

Have they started the looting portion of the games yet?

You get what you pay for I guess.

Meh, it's been a nice day further inland (about 75 miles from LA) so I'm sure that the costal areas are not suffering that much, traffic jams not withstanding. Most likely someone just screwed up and either chopped a cable, or flipped the wrong switch. Other than the traffic for people going home, this is a non-issue. Most of us out here have dealt with rolling blackouts, and the occasional mistake, we're actually prepared for such things.

Twitch OSX (at 2005-09-12 04:38:20 PM):

Hmm.. thats odd. I noticed my email not working so checked the off network status page for our provider and it says a major power outtage in LA has taken their entire network offline (Dreamhost.com) =(

I have a script on my web site that send me text messages when fark posts newsflashes, I was wondering why I was didn't get the message. Now I know... Dreamhost is still an awesome host though. :)

Woohoo! Power's back on in Studio City.
I heard three loud sirens throughout the hour and fifteen. People cannot drive.
2005-09-12 05:07:29 PM

My power went out here in Vegas a couple weeks back, right during prime time TV. I was fearing boredom

How do you have this problem in Las farking Vegas? If you had said just about any place else, I might not be so confused. I suppose it's different though if you live there. Still, to a small town Mainer, it seems unpossible.

Power back up in Van Nuys...
2005-09-12 05:08:33 PM
I work at the county hospital here in L.A. and our lights went off for a bit. But then our Generators kicked in. I could just imagine traffic on the way home...

GaryPDX: I can believe these big hosting companies don't have backup power generation

I'm equally stumped. Both of our datacenters have underground generators with fuel for a few days. I've never seen a datacenter out here that didn't have backups.
2005-09-12 05:08:54 PM
No outages here... but I live outside of L.A.

The Interdictor is needed in LA.
2005-09-12 05:09:10 PM
Yes, the power is always going out in California, at least a few times every year. It's just that at present we have this drama queen steroid pumping governor who likes to get a lot of attention over every little thing.

Why do you farktards always have to turn everything into a political deal? The governor isn't turning this into a big deal. The media and the people who have been affected are. I hate it when people use any thread they can to spit venom about politicians, just shut the fark up.

BTW, the news is hilarious. Some quotes:
"Your refrigerator IS electric!"
"Approach traffic lights as if they were stopsigns..DO NOT just run the light..."

It's amazing this stuff actually has to be stated.

I'm in L.A. and we're back on....
2005-09-12 05:09:32 PM
Thought LA stood for Lousiana for a second, and thought, "well, I can venture a guess as to why they're without power."

What I Learned From The Blackout:

1. If one of your two jobs is working at an ice cream store, you're gonna lose that job.

2. Neighbors? By God, I have Neighbors! Wow! Children, on the playground, in my suburban neighborhood! Who the fark knew?

3. Generators really kill the serenity.

4. Things with fur really should chill in the basement, if at all possible.

5. Electric stoves suck for many reasons. Loss of power, that's a big one.

Good luck, kids. It's colder there than it is in Michigan, if my CNN this morning didn't lie. I'm gonna wait before I pass judgment on what might've caused it - eh, it's not hot, but it's still summer and California.

That said, I didn't have a walkable bar in my suburban home. I'd get out while the beer's still cold. Course, none of you can read this, probably.

Bush dose not like electric people

2005-09-12 05:10:10 PM
Yeah, it just came back on about 10 minutes ago.
Myspace has all their servers here, so it's not working...

It's actually beautiful outside.

We had a huge Auroras last Saturday night, up here in Canada.
Very beautiful and mystic stuff.

Toluca Lake here. We're back on.

Only retards would think that the federal government was meant to be the first responder to a natural disaster. Even Nagin blames Blanco more than Bush.

PS -

My favorite blackout scene was a raver kid directing traffic at an intersection with glowsticks.

There's your traffic problems solved. Course, now you have a raver on your hands.
