For the first time in history the largest chunk of U.S. households consists of single individuals ... with really large chunks.

mediaho exactly. What's really sad is the desperate-for-love sounding writer of the article.

"The urge to find a partner, which generally means someone to live with, is fairly universal and pretty relentless."

Yeah. Live with. That's what it is.

As a corrolary, has the number of cats per household correspondingly INCREASED? (I'd guess so from the fark headlines.)

Oh no! We need a constitutional amendment!

It's nice to have a separate room to clean the guns in, that way the living room isn't a mess when guests come over.

Bah. This crap is in Santorum's book. No surprise it's in the WSJ too. "This is sad, people are alone!" This from the group that wants smaller government and less involvement in the lives of citizens?

I know this has nothing to do with the aricle, but does anybody here know about these online fake newspaper articles where you put your name in the address bar, and the story is about you dying in a car crash and stuff like that? I saw them a long time ago and I got find it again. Thanks.

What a horribly written article with wild ass assumptions on the author's part. This guy is seriously hard up for love.

For all of those who said gay marriage or promescutity was a factor it stated that this is the number of people living completly alone... No roommates, no girlfriends/boyfriends.. just by themselves. Most of the promiscous ones I knew generally atleast had roommates... often lovers at the same time.

2005-08-19 3:05:16 PM
Odd that it coincides with, say, ten years of low-cost, anonymous availability of pornography.

2005-08-19 3:05:28 PM
That article depressed me.

2005-08-19 3:05:37 PM
That's me!!!

I live alone!!! I've had roomates, etc. for years since I went to college. Almost 3 years ago I left and started living on my own. I like it that way. Cuts down on all the drama (I've had a few female roomates).

I find it appalling that I am not allowed to marry myself. I'm already having relations with myself about once a day, and nobody outside the Bible Belt seems to care about that, so what's the big deal?

2005-08-19 3:06:47 PM
I live alone and love it. Well, alone, except for my cat.

/Only has one cat! I promise!
//Really not pathetic

There is only one solution to this: make women economically subservient to men! Back to the kitchen! A sammich! A sammich!

/I'll probably die alone too

Marriage is a sham (at least for me, for the moment, YMMV).

I don't want kids (I have cats, that's good enough), and I already own my condo (which is the same size as my parents first house, where I, my younger sister, mother and stepfather live).

And I'm saving up money to buy a house.

So the only thing that marriage could provide me with is companionship (becuase I sure the heck don't need the tax breaks), which I can get from steady dating.

As for spreading the cantois/george genetic material around. My grandmother had 13 kids, my father has six, the seed has been spread, nuff said.

My favorite thing about living alone: no more "where the fark is that I left right here in the spot where it should be?"

Living alone =/= being alone.

I want to buy small packages! WTF do I do with a box of cereal?

What he said too. Except replace "steady dating" with "a rotisserie of sex partners".

Err, I get companionship from steady dating, not tax breaks.

Odd, so many people spend their single lives in search of a long lasting relationship, a partner to spend their lives with and share all of lifes happy little moments with. silly kids. 2yrs into marriage they wonder WTF did I do?

2005-08-19 3:12:07 PM
Living alone really cuts down on the number of witnesses I have to eliminate.

2005-08-19 3:12:11 PM
I prefer living alone - I've been married, divorced, lived with someone, etc. (never had a roommate, though) - and I just find it's easier to be alone.

Unfortunately for me, the situation is about to change - my elderly mother will be moving in with me this fall. Oh joy.

Why can't I find some rich fark to push her off on?
