Yep, and there was yet another discussion (this time between my photo savvy wife and me) about how to crop this one. We (or rather, I as the photographer) decided on what was posted for purposes of this contest. The original has a lot to work with.

CuddleButt thanks for the welcome since i am a noob to these contests. it was this theme that reminded me of the "ghost" picture and provided the final impetus to getting my hosting going.

Taken with a HP912 camera. It was took cold (no electricity) to take too many pics.

First one was a Sigma sd10 digital, and the next two were with a sigms sa9 film camera. The digital will only go down to 30 seconds exposure and it makes too much noise after about 10 sec.

CaptainJim looks like you answered your question about sharpness. from idle_hands bridge post: "i'm pretty sure this one was about a 90 sec exposure at f11". your barn was 5 minutes and unless you were using a 50lb tripod and there was no breeze .........

i've tried that use the lens marks thing and ch4r7ie's pacing and you still end up trading f-stop for exposure time. and i do have a fairly heavy tripod and a shutter release.

Okay, so I get one more. This was take recently during a frontal passage. I was attempting to get a shot at a lightning bolt, but alas it was not to be. The sky looks pretty cool though. 15 second exposure from Canon Powershot A75 (as every other pic is taken).

"Epicenter"
This one was really just an experiment with light. The shutter was open for about 3 minutes while I walked in circles holding different colored gels (plastic sheets) in front of my flashlight. The light in the air is caused by the light/gel itself...the light on the ground is the flashlights beam shining on the ground. This was done in a parking lot, the cross on the ground is actually a painted parking spot.

I snapped this 15 second exposure when I got back into the city tonight so I'd have something to slip it into the contest. The strange colored glow came about only when I tilted the camera to an exact angle, and I ran out of time before I could recapture it again in a shot with sharper focus.

Reposting last one... though the preview worked, apparently at posting time, some glitch caused my server to not respond, and the lameness filter caught it.

And one last one. Full-res versions of each of these are available upon request...

I hate to post things that everyone else is posting... but a lot of my favorite shots are during the day (saddly) or have been done to death on this thread. I love the Long exposures of the stars... I have a shot (not uploaded) of one when I was the tahoe forrest. If you focus on the north star you will be able to see the stars around it move in a circle while the north star stays reletively in the same spot, awesome picture.

This one is just a mistake that I had to keep, I love these (saddly I have a lot ;) )

Wow!

You people are really amazing. I think it would be fair to say this is one of the best Farktography contests ever. So many shots here tonight are absolutely stunning, and that doesn't mean that the rest of them aren't something to be proud of as well. There is one beautiful image after another here.

You ALL deserve a big congratulations on continuing to make these Farktography contests great eye candy and for being an inspiration for others. If I could buy you all a beer I would.

Nice Jorb!

Ok, I thought I would note as well in regards to voting, it looks like voting stays. Here are the stats as of this time.

Total Votes: 166
Yes: 78.92 % (131)
No: 21.08 % (35)

I'd like to say as well, regardless of voting, there are many photos here that are winners and please don't think just because you did not receive many votes it has anything to do with the quality of your image. I know time of submission tends to be a big factor as well, which is one of the reasons it was being considered not to have voting.

Funny how bustling areas of a college campus look under long exposure at night.

I took this picture for this contest, and I went to sleep before midnight. Oh well, I'll turn voting on for giggles but you're not going to make it down this far this late in the game.

Oh... Pentax ZX-L with smc Pentax 50mm f/1.7 lens. I don't remember what the aperture was, but it was either 15, 20, or 30 seconds exposure with ISO400 film.

I know time of submission tends to be a big factor as well, which is one of the reasons it was being considered not to have voting.

you could try asking people not to vote until a certain time. that way late entries get more of a chance.

Wow, most of those pics took my breath away. I'm jealous of those with the skills.

I recently bought a small digicam, 5 megapixel. I might start joining those contests soon myself. I wish I had had the time to prepare for this one, but I was away on vacation the past two weeks (where I bought my cam, thanks to the advice of a friend since I know nothing about that stuff).

Sorry I don't have more to add to this thread. Great job everyone, I'm impressed.

CuddleButt i'm still around too, looking at the enteries and voting on the new (to me) ones. i've seen comments from other early posters that make me think this gets refreshed (or revisited) by other diehard fans.

thanks again for doing this. and thanks to drew for making it work.

BTW and FWTW a quick look at my site stats says the three picture total of 80kb = 640+MB of transfer from approx. 12,000 hits. but being the noob that i am the interpertation of site stats is open to debate. it is omly 2% of my monthly allowable so look out. more and perhaps bigger things to come.
