CaptainJim -- chips and dip is amazing

DrunkNun -- i used to do a lot of work on an SSL E/G series 48 chan desk. i HATE the sound of those things. LOVE the flexibility of the console, but they're so lifeless. and good god automation is a pain in the arse

Bank of America installed these wonderful new ATM machines at the branch near the house. Besides receipts the size of a horse blanket and absolutely no protection from shoulder surfing, they're running a Microsoft OS.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

CaptainJim:

very nice, i like the lighting. my only gripe is that area on the top left, really awkward looking. guess you couldn't help it tho, with the way the back chip was placed. still, that would be much nicer if the background wasn't revealed.

We may enjoy the fruits of our technological power, but in the end, the softer, cuter elements of our lives are what really deserve the most affection.

Hey!!! Another audio geek like me!!!!

I never really had the chance to work on and E or J series so I can't comment on that. I've heard they are comparable.

I can definately see what you mean by lifeless but that, in my opinion is what I want. I don't want the console adding its own tone to my mix. I know a lot of people out there love the vintage Neves for that "Neve Sound" or I guess the old Tridents are popular but personally... I don't know...its just not for me. Also, about the automation...I'll give you that it is a pain in the ass. It took me quite a while to become comfortable with it. The main thing I like is that I don't have faders zipping around while I'm trying to mix. Moving faders just really annoy me. I don't know why....they just do.

Taken with the cellphone, past midnight. The drink is frappe coffee with milk. Next to it the machine that made the frappe (handmixer powered by 2 AAA batteries). On the background is my PC.

I don't have the props for this shot, but I always wanted to see a good photo of a 1 gig CF card sitting gently on top of a stack of the number of standard 1.44MB floppy discs. Anyone want to try to take a crack at it?

#2. A peat contraption from a biomass power station I worked this summer. From my website: This converted bulldozer is not part of the original fleet of peat contraptions, nor is it as new as the newest machines in the junkyard. This is a second-generation machine that was meant to plow a thin layer of peat into a furrow for harvesting. According to many this heavy machine often sank into the bog.

Kingsly: Technological Regrowth

As a geek, this is an exceptionally fun contest to wade through. Beyond that, I have to say that Kingsly's photo is one of the coolest images I've ever seen. Something about how it really looks like a technological jungle just really grabs me.

Excellent work to everyone.
