Perhaps a constituent taking to heart Mayor Rocky Anderson's one-time suggestion that marijuana be decriminalized

This is why I love the mayor of Salt Lake City. He's a hardcore liberal surviving in a sea of ultra conservatives.

I like how the article gives some pointers on growing it inconspicuously.

Marijuana plants look like elm trees when they are small, so how would Siegendorf know it was ganja?
She laughs and says she recognized it from Deadhead T-shirts.

yeah...deadhead t-shirts.
2005-07-22 10:52:45 AM
yeah because dead heads wear shirts with entire plants on them....

if any of you have ever seen a japanese maple, their leaves look exactly, i mean exactly like marijuana...

it always seems to happen, when i am out, i watch movies about, the news talks about it, or my friends say how good of stuff they have at the
2005-07-22 11:00:54 AM
the first time i saw a japanese maple it was growing under a shrub, and to those plants lack of sunlight make the leaves turn green.

i was totally amazed at what i was looking at. someone should just breed the ones that stay green and just start screwing up the whole thing.

tho i know allot of people that played "johhny pot-seed", just tossing seeds into fertile land.

there's pot all over the place in allot of towns i know of.

if by exactly you mean not really, then yeah, i buy it.

Which would have been the correct choice for this headline?

A) A dash ( - ) is for conjoining words or for hyphenation.
B) An em-dash ( - ) or double-dash ( -- ) is used to interject a different thought into a sentence.
C) A colon ( : ) indicates the answer to a question.

Correct answer: C.

Just some stupid kids throwing seeds in a flower box what a f-u-cking mystery.
2005-07-22 11:07:21 AM
That is awesome- I live here in Salt Lake and I'm going to have to start watching for that!
I wonder if they have tried to plant some in the flower beds at Temple Square...
2005-07-22 11:07:43 AM
She laughs and says she recognized it from Deadhead T-shirts.

Yeah right, she was probably stoned at the time.

/note to self :buy some large Japanese maples for the yard.

Operation Overgrow is going exactly as planned.

oh PERROLOCCO - Why oh why must you be like that. This is a thread, not a thesis. Please, please find something better with your time...don't be that farker.

There are hundreds of typoes of japanese maple - many don't turn red ever.

But if you want the ultimate look alike plant, try Cleome, before it blooms:

The police removed everyone of these from my neighbor's flower bed one year, then never mentioned their raid to anyone.
2005-07-22 11:17:29 AM
Legalize it.
2005-07-22 11:17:34 AM
There is a hybiscus (I think it is called a Texas Hybiscus) that looks exactly like a pot plant as well. Several nurseries around here in N texas have been raided because of them.
2005-07-22 11:19:26 AM
well those are some dumb farking cops that plant looks nothing like weeed, the leaves are way to big and not even spiney at the tips WTF

In the meantime - plant your seeds.

If a lot of people who receive this letter plant a few seeds and a lot of people receive this letter, then a lot of seeds will get planted. Plant your seeds.

In parks. On lots. Public flower beds. In remote places. At City Hall. Wherever. Whenever. Or start a plantation in your closet (but read up on it first for that). For casual planting, its best to soak them in water for a day and plant in a bunch of about 5, about half an inch deep. Don't worry much about the weather, they know when the weather is wrong and will try to wait for nature. Don't soak them if it's wintertime. Seeds are a very hearty life form and strongly desire to grow and flourish. But some of them need people's help to get started. Plant your seeds.

Make a few copies of this letter (5 would be nice) and send them to friends of yours. Try to mail to different cities and states, even different countries. If you would rather not, then please pass this copy on to someone and perhaps they would like to.

THERE IS NO TRUTH to the legend that if you throw away a chain letter then all sorts of catastrophic, abominable, and outrageous disasters will happen. Except, of course, from your seed's point of view.

If I am not mistaken, and I am sure some Fark lawyers out there can confirm or deny this, if illegal drugs are found to be cultivated on "private" property, the federal government confiscates property, under one of the drug Kingpin laws. So does that mean that SLC should have lost some of its property?

I do recall that from National Guard drug sweeps of federally owned parkland that any plant pulled up that showed adult type leaves was valued at $3000.00 by law enforcement. This meant that if you found a patch with 10 seedlings on it you just took 30k worth of drugs off the streets, regardless of the sex of, or quality of, said plants. Ditch weed or skunk weed it was all the same to the feds.

Japanese maple tree leaf.

[image from too old to be available]

I live in Holland and grow weed in my garden during the summer, which also features a (ex-bonsai) Japanese Maple.

100% of the people that I've told the maple is a "Cambodian red cannabis shrub" fell for it without further question ... even though there is a real weed plant right next to it.
2005-07-22 11:23:37 AM
Man, all these raids on innocent flower beds. It's like getting arrested for smoking a dime bag of Oregano.
2005-07-22 11:24:12 AM

Your second 'for' in answer A is redundant.
Oh, and 'typography' has no letter 'e'.
Oh, and 'Nazi' has a capital 'N'.

But of course, your mistakes were all meant to be ironic, so I'll let you off!

Google image search for vitex (someone help me out with a link?). Check out the first pic.
Looks much more like it than cleome or japanese maple, and grows as a shrub. Even the buds look similar before they flower.
2005-07-22 11:24:28 AM

Your police should be fired. Anyone looking at that who grew up in the 70s knows a farking weed plant and would immediately see it wasn't the droids they were looking for.

No, what you people want is False Aralia. Dead ringer for weed, but I wouldn't advise smoking it.

Don't forget the en-dash, - Used to separate dates and numbers. Not as long as the em-dash, but longer than the hyphen.

An amused Siegendorf has a message for burnouts: "We're on top of our weeding."

Burnouts? WTF, you're probably making 10 bucks an hour weeding flowerbeds. Leave the poor hippies alone, Mon.
2005-07-22 11:42:22 AM
When I was a kid, we had a huge pot plant growing on the side of our deck. My dad, though a pothead, thought it might be smart to point it out to the policeman who lived across the street so that he wouldn't think Dad was growing it on purpose. The guy said "Just throw it away."

I have never seen a happier father.

didn't the person who wrote the article sound VERY familiar with the subject matter?

i even liked the marley reference in the headline.

hdhale Fark Overlord

Oh yeah, false Aralia will definitely get you in trouble, I got the crap beat out of me by a Florida County Mounty, due to 8 aralias I had in the back of my truck. I owned a plant store and was on my way home with a load of plants to re-sale. I spent two hours being essentially robbed by a damned sheriff, the SOB tried to destroy my damned receipts showing where I had bought the plants in the first place. Things could have been even worse had a Florida State Trooper not stopped and told Boss Hogg that all I had were a bunch of house plants. The damned Sheriff did keep all of my cash though (about $120.00) and I could never get it back, the sheriff did not give me a receipt. This happened back in the early 90s.

/ Really hate the war on drugs

It all causes more giggles than concern. Siegendorf hasn't called the police. "They're so small the police wouldn't care about them."

When does is start budding or do you have to do something to the plant to make it start budding?

it needs to start getting dark earlier to flower, this happens in the fall...
2005-07-22 11:53:52 AM
Marijuana!? Quick! Seize the property of the owner- What? We already own it. Awwww Crap.
2005-07-22 11:56:26 AM
Headso - thanks, wouldn't the frost in the fall kill the plants though?
2005-07-22 12:13:01 PM
"When does is start budding or do you have to do something to the plant to make it start budding?"

Pot contains hormones, male or female. Typically the sunlight burns off most of this hormone and the plant just grows. But later in the year when the days are shorter there's less light to burn it off. The plant then starts showing its sex and grows either buds or pollen sacs. Kill the latter and keep the former if you don't want seeds. These plants would have to be allowed to grow for at least a month and then likely another 2 months of flowering to get anything worthwhile off them and stoners from far and wide would snatch them long before that.

"wouldn't the frost in the fall kill the plants though?"

Usually, by the time hard frost rolls around, the process is complete.
