The formatting on my screen made it look like they were calling Daily Kos a conservative site.

But is fark really a blog?

Wow, if Fark is a blog, then my blog really sucks. In fact, it probably sucks anyway.

No.

Obviously because Fark is an evil, greedy, corporate blog that unfairly gets more hits than it deserves and got it's ranking on the backs of the less-priveleged blog-masses.

/spread the hits

So the size and popularity of a blog is determined by how many people link to it? What about page hits? I don't link to Fark in any way...

Maybe A Public Blog?

In the real world sense, it would be a combination library/bar...with a pond in the back.

Fark is a blog as much as this kid is a hacker:

It's just apparently the only thing the media can think of to call it, since "website" is so last year.

A blog?

Not once has Drew told us what mood he was in, what music he was listening to, or even expressed any teenage angst.

He doesn't even complain about his homeroom teacher.

The difference between a blog and a message board:

I am not arrogant enough to assume that people will type in a URL tp come to an address so that I may E-Masturbate my genius onto them while they open their mouth and take my E-Cum like and E-Porn Star.

Hence, like a dirty old E-man, I am forced to hang out on this E-Dingy Corner and near E-School Yards to E-Expose myself.

You know, that was almost really good. If you had written "to" instead of "tp," I would have congratulated you. But no, you suck.

It's not a blog, it's Fark.com.

2005-06-26 12:35:11 PM
fark is indeed perhaps the best forum blog around, mainly because it is the most egalitarian--all the other blogs will censor you for outlier political opinions--one slashdot, you will get modded down frequently if you speak outside the conventional political paradigm of fauxleft or fauxconservative. You will get banned very quickly on democraticunderground if you do not tor the democratic party fauxleft-neioliberal line, and the same for freerepublic if you not not toe the GOP fascist-neoliberal line.

On fark you can say pretty much what you want as long as you obey the rules, and the rules are not slanted to one party or the other.

well.. in defense of those in the know..
you guys read the TF discussions lately? its as if 2,000 idiot TF-liters got accounts and use the headlines as some sort of time-delayed email system. I come to expect more out of TF'ers...really i do. Yet, we have turned TF into a jigsaw puzzle of really useless submissions. I wish the mods would delete the blog-like stuff and ask people to use email instead.

I don't agree with Fark as a blog.. but a bunch of TF'ers are using the TF-only discussions as personal blogs.

I think Technorati is in some fight with Slashdot, because they don't count it as a blog. This makes no sense, because it really isn't substantively different than K5 or Fark or whatever.

11 and a half million!?

Dear god we are a self-important bunch.

2005-06-26 12:52:34 PM
I thought a blog was just an individual's pretentious, self important diary on the web, not a messageboard with multiple pretentious, self important posters.

2005-06-26 12:53:19 PM
Does drew talk about the old jewish lady at Wal-Mart who takes so long with the coupons? If not then fark is not a blog.

Fark is superior to any blog. You never know what interesting, informative, hilarious, outrageous or downright retarded link will make the main page, and while some links never make the main page, the threads are absolutely full of boobies/entertainment links and helpful references for the politically curious/aspiring propagandist.

While it's easy to characterize Fark based upon its most juvenile, malignant and petty posters, the truth is that we have some amazingly intelligent, talented and creative people here. Hell, some people find the antics of the trolls to be pretty amusing.

I guess now's a good time to mention the people who created and maintain the site; Fark would never have become as popular as it is without their imagination, dedication, detachment and leniency.

11 and a half million!?

And my goal is piss ALL of them off at the SAME time on the SAME day. Can you imagine the karmic dissonance? Muahahahahahahahaha!

It's good to have goals.

I like how they say that to be a blogger, you must have some sort of giant ego. Apparently these days the concept that you, a lowly peon, could possibly have any kind of idea worth sharing with the world is indicative of delusional self-importance.

"How dare you attempt to contribute?! WE will do all the thinking, thank you very much!"

Fark always struck me as more of a news aggregator.

You know, like Google News or the Associated Press, but with more boobies and shameless comedy.

Taken from urbandictionary.com:

1. blog
n.
Short for weblog.
A meandering, blatantly uninteresting online diary that gives the author the illusion that people are interested in their stupid, pathetic life. Consists of such riveting entries as "homework sucks" and "I slept until noon today."

v. intr.
The act of posting to a weblog.

from the little research ive done on blogging and blogging culture, a blog isn't really just a site where someone types about their daily experiences. a blog is a site where more information is provided by the users of the site than the main article or written piece provides.

Here's a Handy Tip: if you want to build the hit count to your site, mention FARK in an article posted there...whores.
