"the town has paid more than $40,000 in legal expenses." It would of been cheaper to build the fence for him.

One man's trash is another man's treasure and other such tired clichés

I remember a junk yard with a big wall around it. There was a sign on the wall that said "trespassers will be violated."

Gives me the chills just thinking about it.
2002-04-07 01:48:33 AM
Oh dear. Now I've done it.
2002-04-07 01:48:56 AM
No pic? I wanna see a wall of crap, man!
This is probably something that I'd do, to be honest.

How, exactly, do crushed cars present a health risk? Do they make for a slightly larger population for mosquitos? Or what?
2002-04-07 01:54:54 AM
Fence? Wall of cars :)

Ok Fark needs a "Boring" tag
It just kinda sums the whole thing up

Zedrek: Avoid the use of "would of been" unless you're directly quoting a retard.

Jesus people....whining goddam ingrates. It actually takes you more time to complain than it would for you to just browse to something else. Yeesh. There's a reason TotalFark was created, you know. So you can see everything that was submitted, and not just what the moderators choose to allow. So now, we can all see how much better your submissions are than the ones that get put in by the oh-so-ignorant and they-must-be-drinking-because-my-submission-was-SO-much-better moderators. You biatch and complain about the quality of the posts, right? Let's do a little work here, shall we? Little logical thinking:

1) You read an article that wasn't submitted by you, and naturally, (not submitted by you) == (lame post).

2) You decide to come here into the forums and biatch about how the moderators have their heads up their collective asses to let this crap through.

3) But! You're not the only one! Now, it's kewl and uber-1337 to bash Fark, and complain about how the content is poor. So, we get more and more whining friggin' maggots around here.

4) All the while, the bandwidth costs are going up, because we have to go through all your crap to read some of the intersting posts. And again (your posts) != (anything of worth). Remember that last bit, it's as important as it is true.

5) Bandwidth costs going up? Drew's gotta get revenue somehow, so he comes up with TotalFark, so maybe he can start operating at something other than a loss. And maybe the posts aren't as interesting as they used to be so that more people are encouraged to sign up to TotalFark. Are you getting the picture yet? YOU CAUSED THIS.

6) Yay! Now that TotalFark is up and running, no one will have anything to biatch about, right? Yeah. Right. NOW you guys complain about the TotalFark icon, and what the hell is up with that? You complain about having to pay for Fark, as if $5 is a lot of money. Go out, get a job, cancel one of your porn site subscriptions, and support this beast.

Let me end this by saying I have had one of the most infuriating run-ins with a sanctimonious, self-righteous bible thumper today, who basically took it upon himself to impound my car and I couldn't do a damned thing about it. So, naturally, I'm a little upset. However, I still mean every damned word of this. And yes, I realize I'm adding to bandwidth with this rant. But bear in mind, I am posting this once. I'd say complaints about how much the post sucked comprise about 20% of the comments. And I'm being conservative with that estimate. Yeesh.

Spazholio what an appropriate name :)
2002-04-07 03:16:39 AM
Spazholio's right on the money, and he has an ironic handle. What's not to love about this guy!!!!

Besides, I've seen much worse submissions than this. This is pretty much your pizza and beer Fark here.
2002-04-07 03:19:56 AM
And just to show I'm not a total prick, I, too, love Hytes Xian. And I don't even know why. =)
2002-04-07 03:26:03 AM
This one made me laugh more than most articles.

2002-04-07 03:29:05 AM
Wow!!!! Not ONE Total Farker in here so far!
2002-04-07 03:32:33 AM
This one made me laugh more than most articles.

thankyou, glad someone chuckled like I did when I saw it and posted it.
2002-04-07 03:37:17 AM
B_damage: You shouldn't of said that.
2002-04-07 03:48:50 AM

I got a good laugh from the article. Reminds me of those old genie stories...."I will grant your wish, but be carefull what you wish for."

Only thing that made me laugh more today was the following

"Spazholio what an appropriate name :)"
2002-04-07 03:59:00 AM
*takes a bow* Why thankyou sir.

He coulda made the fence out of "worse" things.

2002-04-07 04:02:16 AM
Article reminds me of my dad being pestered by a neighboring motel that never liked the appearance of some rental houses we owned across the street from them (granted, the property WAS an investment in the land and not the houses). Fed up with the pestering, my dad told the manager: "Look! If you complain one more time, I'll paint the houses the same color as your motel and put red lights above the doorway!"

End of story.
2002-04-07 04:33:54 AM
But the town council would go gaa gaa over an Enron clone in their town with its BIG pretty building..... no matter how many innocent folks get fleeced by the business suits within... as long as they're pretty.

Hasn't America turned into a society where appearance is all and what's within is meaningless?

Damn I get deep sumtimes.
2002-04-07 06:06:16 AM
"The newly elected town supervisor said he just wants the feud over with, noting that the town has paid more than $40,000 in legal expenses."

If the town supervisor watns this over with, he should just leave the guy alone. *POOF* it's over.
2002-04-07 06:09:57 AM
Obbop: what's inside is a junkyard. Is that the inner beauty you are alluding to? :)
2002-04-07 09:40:52 AM
FWIW, in Texas all junkyards have to have a fence to separate them from the road.

Some of them get around the law by making themselves into used car lots or whatever.

I thought this was funny, too, has anybody been to the Caddilac Ranch?
2002-04-07 11:03:41 AM
I've been to Carhenge. Lovely, just lovely. *sniff*
2002-04-07 11:24:37 AM
That reminds me of when a White Castle was going to move into (Overland Park, I think?) a town in Kansas. The area had a "motif" of adobe. White Castle buildings, however, are stark white, built with heavy, siding-like panels. The town was upset at the very idea of a building which didn't blend into the locality. Nice, eh?
2002-04-07 03:13:08 PM
Spazholio: Hey, no love for me? Hytes Xian gets all the love? Goddamn!

Anyways, it usually pisses me off when people complain about the quality of the posts. But this was was pretty poor. Most of them are really good though, so I am not a regular complainer. And, yes, I am too cheap to get TotalFark. I don't spend enough time on Fark to justify the cost. And being a student, money's pretty tight, unless I'm getting loaded.

And I don't really care about the TotalFark icon. I guess you guys should get some sort of elitist badge for valiantly signing up. I'll just keep clicking on the banner ads, thank you very much.

Oh, and, if you read the FArQ, then you'll find out that the mods don't review articles, admins do. BTW, how the hell did a bible thumper come to impound your car? It seems like a potentially interesting story.

I still maintain that Frozen_North probably had the most accurate theory on this one.

This guy deserves a HERO tag!

Imagine beating city hall with their own rules and causing them to spend $40,000!

Back in the 1980's there was a guy by the name of Stanley Poppio in Key Largo, Florida who did the same thing but he took a little bit different approach to the problem.

Poppio had all this junk in his yard that on US 1 that angered the Monroe County Commissioners who thought it was an eyesore and unbefitting of the "paradise" image they wanted to promote to tourists.

They levied all sorts of fines against him to clean up his yard, and the court battles ensued. Poppio finally became so angry at the County Commissioners that he got busy with his welder and turned all the junk into artwork.

This really infuriated the County Commissioners but there were no laws against having artwork in your yard, so Poppio prevailed and became quite a local celebrity in the process.

After he died, Poppio's family contacted the Monroe County Arts Commisssion to see if they would be interested in becoming custodians of the collection. The Commissioners balked and delayed and stalled and finally when pressed for a commitment, said they would take a few select pieces, but not all of it. Meanwhile, while these negotiations were taking place, all of Poppio's artwork was sitting unprotected on his property and some of the locals were carting it away.

The family finally told the Commissioners they would have to take the entire collection, or none of it. So the Monroe County Arts Commission now has the entire Poppio collection in the Key West museum near the airport and it's one of their most popular exhibits.
